What a wonderful place. Nice staff, very clean and the assortment of things we tried: -Peach cobbler: so delicious. Hint of cinnamon and spices...5/5 -White layer cake: like the best wedding cake and just a hit among all of us. 6/5 -Sugar cookie and Oreo cookie: Oreo is not my personal choice but my crew loved both of these 4.9/5 -Mocha chocolate chip cookie: this one hit for me. I had high expectations. A minority owned business check. Especially a woman owned business check. Now they're on doordash, check. Checked all my boxes. So we ordered a little bit of everything. We got the chicken salad that I heard was really good. We got the gumbo which was the soup of the week during Mardi Gras time. I got some hot tea. I got some pound cake and some sweet potato pie. Now usually I don't order sweet potato pie from places because I'm almost always disappointed unless it's truly homemade like my grandma used to make. I have to say I was let down by this one. I kept trying to taste more of it to get some more flavor from it but it just was okay. I didn't finish the one slice that I got. The pound cake was okay again. My man loves chicken salad and they give you a nice Hefty portion here but he said it was way too many onions in there and he only ate maybe four or five bites before putting it in the fridge which is where it still is right now. The seafood gumbo was again average. My man says no comment lol but we go to New Orleans a few times a year just to eat. So this was a letdown for me. I didn't have anything great. I heard awesome things about this place. Maybe I'll come back and try the cookies but the desserts I tried here didn't do it for me and I wouldn't go out of my way for them. read more

OK, point one: they workers are pleasant, friendly, and very good with customers. Point two: My wife likes it so I better go there. OK, I like it as much as she does. Point three: They have soup that goes really really well with an awful lot. They make one type of soup for a week, with a rotating schedule. You are very likely to find at least one you like. I get three of them, and large quantities. OK, double servings. My wife likes the fourth one, so we get there almost every week. I won't even tell you what my favorite Spinach Wrap is cause you'll buy it out before I get there. All in all this place is the tops. read more

They just moved to their new location in old Orchard! We are so lucky to have another small business in our beautiful neighborhood. Oh I love sweets, and would probably eat a rock if you covered it with good frosting so this might be dangerous. Firstly, the owner is simply lovely. She has a warmth about her, and an absolute kindness. The space looks really nice, you can tell they worked hard to create a comfortable environment. In addition to cakes and cookies they also sell ice cream and coffee as well as some very fantastic milk. How can milk be fantastic you ask? Trust me it can! It's not your average grocery store variety. I got a hummingbird cake. Think carrot cake but with bananas and pineapple instead of carrots and raisins. It was so good, the cream cheese frosting is phenomenal. My Mr got a chocolate chip nut cookie, it was enormous and delicious. It was packed with chocolate chips and had just the right amount of chew to it. We sampled a gluten free vegan black bean brownie and oh my! A lot of the gluten free vegan "sweets" I've tried aren't very good. Typically it's a texture issue for me as well as a weird aftertaste. I honestly wouldn't have known these weren't "normal" brownies. They have this fudginess (is that even a word?) about them. They are so moist I had to eat my sample with a spoon. It was perfect. I can't wait to try the coffee and ice cream. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Jera's has just opened in their beautiful new location on Bancroft St. on the edge of UT (right next to the Rockets Bookstore and University Barbershop). The sweets are amazing. I got a slice of hummingbird cake for myself and some cookies for the office mates. The cake was divine! Very fluffy and such amazing flavor. My office mates loved the cookies, too, and I think we will be dropping by Jera's again soon. FYI for those planning to visit - hours are 9-6 Mon-Fri, 9-3 Sat, closed on Sunday. Going there is like going to Cedar Point and after you are inside told that all the coasters are down for the day, AND you have to pay a fee just to be there. Jera's was uneventful and lacking of variety. What bakery doesn't have donuts in the morning? THIS ONE. Overpriced cookies and then they charge u a fee to use ur credit card, but they don't tell you this AT ALL. If u review ur receipt that's how u find out. Unfortunately just disappointed in the experience. I went to nearby Brew coffee and found more variety (except no donuts). Won't be back. I'll stick with Wixeys. read more

Went here after a work colleague mentioned how their bestie from undergrad opened this with their mom and insisted that when in the area to go and try it. Being someone of my word and additionally by it in walking distance from where I was, decided to check it out. After a few attempts, I arrived when in fact they were open (their hours of operation listed weren't matching so sync updates need to happen). However glad to successfully have entered. It's in a very strategic spot. Great, intimate yet also dramatic interior. It's nestled in the heart of campus off the main drag and by several neighborhoods/village who love this kind of thing. They have a great assortments of sweets to fancy whatever one is hankering for. From cakes, cookies, custards, pies, scones. Decided to get half a dozen and their pound cake which was fresh right out the oven. Their best cookie I got to try bar none is their lemon velvet. It's tart, decadent, extremely light which is scaring for one can easily consume an entire tray. That's how addictive they are! That cream cheese frosting is top notch. I'm glad my colleague's bestie convinced me to try it for it didnt disappoint. Their oatmeal chip and chocolate chip (because I mean you gotta go with the classic) were solid. The oreo could do without. The pound cake was moist and rich and the slight icing covering really sealed it. The staff was extremely friendly. This is a great Black women owned and operated business. One must stop here. Even saw the dsitrict's local Congressmember who was back from D.C. picking up treats for their field office staff. I'll definitely be back. read more

Her baked goods are the stuff dreams are made from and truly life changing. I used to see the world through cynical eyes until I had a Lemon Velvet cookie... The pies hearken memories of my mom's pie. The crust is flaky and tender, the fillings are sweet and tasty.
