My mom and I were driving through Monroe on our way home to Ohio and turned around after spotting Cakes by Stephanie, and we're so glad we stopped. The shop is so cute and all of the items looked delicious! We had a difficult time deciding what to bring home and the staff was very helpful with recommendations. I will dream of their lemon crinkle cookie until I can visit again. It was delicious, as was the fruit pizza cookie. We also ordered a 6" cherry chip cake which was good especially if you love icing. My friend from out of state used DoorDash to get me cake from here for my birthday. She ordered a slice of Ho Ho cake and then a six inch chocolate cake. When it arrived I left it in the bag till the next day for my birthday. When I opened the bag there were two pieces of cake instead of the full six inch cake. By this time the 24 hour window from DoorDash was past so there wasn't anything I could do. The cake slices were delicious. The HoHo cake was one of the tastiest things I've had in awhile. We ordered our wedding cake from Cakes by Stephanie and worked directly with Tommy, and I truly could not be happier with the entire experience. The cake was a very important part of the wedding for me (I love cake!), so I was really hoping for something delicious and memorable--and they absolutely delivered. We scheduled a wedding cake tasting, and Tommy was wonderful to work with. He explained everything clearly, was incredibly helpful, and made the whole process fun. They had a complimentary tasting prepared for us with six cake flavors and fillings, and every single sample was amazing. They have so many combinations to choose from, and they even offered to let us come back later to try additional flavors if we wanted. That level of kindness, communication, and flexibility meant a lot. On the wedding day, their team coordinated with my florist for adding fresh flowers to the cake, and it turned out incredible--exactly what I imagined. We also rented a cake stand from them for a very reasonable price, which made things even easier. Their policies were straightforward, the staff was friendly, and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. Since the wedding, multiple guests have told me (even months later!) how delicious our cake was. We chose chocolate with hoho cream and white cake with fresh strawberry filling, and both were a huge hit. We also get a fresh cake for our one-year anniversary, which I'm already looking forward to! I have been coming to this place for at least 15 years and will stop in to get a few things when I am back in town. They are known all over SE Michigan for their cakes. They are as beautiful as they are delicious. They are not cheap especially for a town this size, but they can complete with any bakery in Metro Detroit is they choose to open another location. While ordering ahead is the best, you can still walk in and find something you would love. Last time I was there it was the afternoon before Thanksgiving and it was packed but the line moved quickly. Since their stuff freezes well, I stock up when I do stop. With Meijer and Monica Baker Boy as the other choices, it is easy to see why it is so busy even with much higher price. I've been here twice since August and both times have not let me down. It's a two hour round trip drive and I've said "it's worth it" both times. I came here for my birthday cake in August (the cookie explosion cake) and it was amazing. I ordered a vanilla cake with Oreo mousse inside and the cookie explosion outside. They only needed a couple days notice which was great. The cake was light fluffy and moist. Also on this trip we picked up the Oreo butterfinger no bake (which i actually commented a request for on their Instagram page and they actually had it in store for me! Amazing customer service). This is the perfect dessert. The confetti snack cake wasn't great but the other desserts make up for it. My second trip here was because of a Cake Giveaway Win on their Instagram (the PB brookie cake). During this trip we picked up an oatmeal creme pie, Oreo no bake bar, banana no bake bar, confetti and chocolate cake slices, and a variety of cookies. The Oreo no bake was again my favorite. The cookie crust with Oreo no bake filling, ganache, and chocolate whip cream is just so good. The cake slices weigh 5lb each; I'm not exaggerating. The cake is light fluffy and moist and the little additions (cookies and brownies) just show the amount of detail this shop puts into each of their baked goods. I will consistently make the drive out to Monroe for these desserts. Everything is always fresh and delicious and they have the most unique and delicious flavor combiniations. read more

Ordered a carrot cake for an after dinner dessert for some friends we were having over ... paid quite a bit for it ... but it looked good... After cutting it and serving it...I looked at it and realized it was probably 2 regular layers (of a box mix) sliced thinly into eight layers with an overload of frosting in between each layer. If that wasn't disappointing enough... to my horror a guest pulled out a log blonde hair from inside the cake... (I am brunette). When I called and spoke with the owner, he didn't seem concerned and said well that happens sometimes... Haven't been back since . So disappointing especially since I was a regular customer. :( read more

I watched them take care of every customer and then disappear as they made me wait in line, never acknowledging me or offering to help. Literally helping everyone up to the person in front of me and then stop helping when it was me last. I would definitely NOT recommend going here. It was the worst service I've ever experienced. Absolutely phenomenal. The customer service and the product they put out blew my mind away. I called to get a smash cake made for my daughters 2nd birthday, on rather short notice. The friendly young lady (sounded like) who answered the phone seemed excited to work there and was enthusiastic about new ideas. I sent them a few pictures that I liked, with only a couple must-have requirements, and I told them to create the rest. The finished product was mind blowing. For a "smash cake" portion I paid about $25, and turns out there was enough cake for 3 adults and more than enough for her to eat. It could've easily fed 5-8 people. As for the taste.... it was as good as the presentation! We had strawberry filling with funfetti for the inside. The cake was very moist, the strawberry tasted amazing and of course there was more than enough frosting. Everyone has their preference for frosting but if you don't like a lot, don't eat it then right? We will be back for all our cake needs and we can't wait to try the bakery aspect either! read more

I know this place does an awesome job on their cakes and cookies, but I attended a birthday party and just need to share this. It was a carrot cake and looks amazing. Well once candles were blown out they starting cutting pieces and I was rather shocked. They put at least 2" of the Rick frosting in the center and a good 1/2 or more on top and sides. There was very little cake. I'm sorry but frosting shouldn't be 3/4 of a cake and the cake be 1/3. First of all the frosting is super sweet and good but everyone there threw more than half of the frosting off the piece a cake they were given. Just don't think this is that healthy either. just wish you'd take a look at your frosting portions on your products. I've attended other events where your cakes were there, they were delicious but again way overboard on the frosting. read more

Not sure what was on top, but is was NOT cream. It might have started out that way, but it was so dense and tough I had to scrape it off and through it out. I went into the store to order a cake for my boss's wife's birthday. I needed a very basic cake. Chocolate cake white frosting and Happy Birthday. I was told I had to pick from a book which was fine. I made my selection and luckily they had a white chocolate frosting and they could put some fruit on top, strawberries or blueberries, simple elegance not busy and not covering the whole cake. When I picked up the cake it was chocolate cake covered in pink raspberry frosting with chocolate dripping down the sides, whipped cream puffs covering the top of the cake completely and strawberries on every puff of whipped cream. So not only was the cake pink, it was ugly. I will say that one of the decorators did scrape all of it off the top and tried to fix it. It still wasn't what I asked for, but I was under time constraints. I was worried if his wife even liked raspberries or if she was allergic to them. Unfortunately, I work for someone who is very fussy about what they want, and are willing to pay extra for it. In turn they expect to get what they ordered. So it was problematic to get the wrong cake. I do not plan to visit this bakery again and will not recommend it to my friends. read more

While both were stunningly beautiful, I am sad to say I didn't enjoy the flavor of either. What a massive bummer, time to find someone local. They don't only do cakes, they do an array of cookies, cupcakes, pastries...all scrumptious. Their Hoho cupcakes are highly recommended. Our wedding cake was all we hoped and now, everyone was impressed. Our flavors were: coconut with pineapple cream fill, chocolate chip with cannoli fill, strawberry swirl with strawberry cream fill and chocolate with oreo fill. All were amazing! I've been treated to one of Stephanie's cakes every birthday since my sister moved here ten years' ago. My favorite is the Ho Ho cake, a dense dark chocolate cake with a thick white frosting center. I've had it made as a traditional cake, as a Christmas ornament, and most recently as a wobbly, weebly penguin! It's always delicious and a wonderful treat! As every year passes, they get more successful and have moved three times. They are currently at 118 Monroe and I've notified Yelp so they can change the info. They have a website where you can view the many cake flavors, like blueberry, strawberry swirl, and pineapple, as well as the usual chocolate, marble, etc. Fillings can be cannoli cream, oreo mousse, peanut butter mousse, ho ho creme; too many to list here! They also do sugar-free and can customize a cake for a party or event. P.S. My sister tells me that Stephanie's is starting to make gluten-free products. Ordered a cake for daughters sweet 16. When ordering, they asked all the right questions--flavors of cake/filling, decorating, size, etc & even gave me suggestions on extra garnishes. (She just wanted a simple drip cake, nothing fancy.) They were fairly busy when I picked it up, but were still as patient & polite as ever with not only me but those ahead picking items from the display case. The cake tasted amazing!! It was--as she wanted--strawberry swirl with chocolate mousse filling, pink frosting & white chocolate drip. The cake itself was moist and somehow both light/fluffy & dense at the same time--perfect cake texture. While the pics may not do it justice, the swirl was the perfect amount--enough to get the flavor but not so much that it overpowered everything. The mousse was rich & decadent. Then one time I purchased a carrot cake to serve as dessert for some dinner guests. As to my horror, one of my guests pulled out a long blonde hair (I am brunette) from in between the many layers of (overused) frosting- frosting that was used in excess to make the cake thicker- not much cake, just lots of frosting! I had really high expectations for Cakes by Stephanie, as the reviews were great and the pictures of the of all the cakes look beautiful and delicious. Unfortunately my expectations were not met. I ordered a strawberry crunch cake for my birthday. I drove 45 minutes to pick it up. The cake was beautiful and I was elated to try it. However, when I tried the cake I was extremely underwhelmed. The icing and the cake taste exactly the same, sweet and flavorless. There was way too much icing on the inside and definitely not enough cake. The crumble on the outside was the same texture as the cake itself. For a crunch cake, one would expect somewhat of a textural difference and there was none. The only thing good about the cake was the fresh strawberries that were on top, as it gave it the tartness needed for an otherwise sweet and flavorless cake. read more
