Kim's Cleaners - Hours - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I tried this place for a few months and ultimate was disappointed. Their hours are strange (open at 10 am) and their pre-pay policy also out of step with competitors. The final straw was poor attention to detail. read more

We traveled into DC for a wedding and in the transport, my wife's dress needed to be steamed. Found Kim's cleaners and not only did she offer to steam it in under 24 hours but she finished early and saved us a lot of headache read more

Dry cleaning might be fine but don't bother for alterations. Above all, the reason for the 1 Star is the lack of customer service. The woman is rude, doesn't say hello when you walk in, nothing is on time. I've had alterations done 3 times and each time she is late and doesn't even offer an apology, just chews her gum and doesn't say anything when she leaves you waiting. Plenty of other dry cleaners and alteration places in Dupont so do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I lived by Kim's Cleaners for the past three years and have used their services periodically during that time. I had a great alteration done here and a few dry cleanings. Most recently, I wanted some dry cleaning done before I packed for my cross-country move and I was cutting it close to when the movers were going to be packing up my things. I know I should've gone in sooner, but she was able to do a rush job for me so that I could get it all packed before the movers came. read more

I was really disappointed with the service at Kim's Cleaners. I took in two items: one silk blouse for dry cleaning and one suit pant for hemming. I was told that the items would be ready for pick up on Tuesday (I brought it in on Thursday). When I came to pick it up on the following Thursday, two days after when it was supposed to be done, the pants were not done and I was told to come back the next day. I think the blouse may have been done but I did not take it at that time. I came back on Friday and picked up both items. I expressed my frustration at the lateness and having to come back twice, and thought it was unfair to pay full price on a service that was not delivered on time. I was given a 10% discount only on the pants (about $2). I expressed my unhappiness with the service and the compensation, but the staff member refused any further credit. When I got home I also noticed a pen mark on my blouse. I had read reviews prior to going in so I thought it would be okay since I don't get items dry cleaned too often, but it appears to be hit-or-miss. read more

The map above shows the address wrong, she is on 20th street between R and S. Kim is god's gift to tailoring. After going through 3 DC tailors before being recommended to her, I was super frusterated - I'm very picky and like my clothes to fit well. She took a suit and worked magic. I didn't need to say a thing, she new exactly what to do. She engaged me as to fit, if I wear my pants lower, how much sleeve cuff do I want showing, etc - she understands style and how modern suits are worn. The downside; she's expensive. If you have nice clothes, its a worthwhile investment. If you're not as picky, you may prefer elsewhere. Another star to her because she takes care of her regular customers - I've had her sewn back on a button for free, do things on the quick, etc; she remembered me after only 1-2 visits. read more

I hate to do this, because I genuinely like Kim's and think they do an excellent job at alterations. But if I were you, I'd take my clothes elsewhere for routine cleaning. I brought in two dress shirts to be laundered. When they came back, my favorite white dress shirt had faint yellow blotches all over it, and the other shirt sported all sorts of weird wrinkles and creases all over it. I returned them both and Kim offered to re-clean them. When I went back to pick up the white one, it still had the stains on it. She offered to try again. For the third attempt, she told me she'd clean it herself, in-house (Kim's sends the laundry off-site, apparently). When I picked it up, she assured me the stains were out. They weren't. They're still there. I'm totally bummed. So, in sum, I highly recommend Kim's for tailoring and alterations. But for routine laundry service and dry cleaning, I'd go somewhere else. read more

I've had a long wool coat and a jacket altered recently at Kim's. The coat required a lot of work because of substantial weight loss. This involved taking it in at the shoulders by removing and reattaching the sleeves. Also she narrowed the cut at the waist. The result was a perfectly tailored fit and it saved me from having to give away an expensive and great coat. The jacket was casual and just needed the sleeves shortened. The results were perfect. The customer service experience was very good. She took her time to get the proper measurements and make sure that I understood what she planned to do. I highly recommend Kim's if you value good service and work. read more

My go-to dry cleaner in central DC! Very reliable and affordable, and the owner is sweet. Can't recommend enough!

Great little place, the owner waited for me a few minutes after hours while I was running late and my clothes looked great.

This is my go to tailor in town. Super friendly, professional, does great work and will have your clothes to you super quickly. Tucked away behind El Tomate restaurant // across from the church of Scientology on 20th street in upper DuPont, this is a hidden gem. read more

Do not bring your alterations here! I brought in a long dress to get hemmed. The hem was fine. A little uneven but tolerable. When I brought my dress home, I found that the left side of my dress, underneath my arm pit area, was super stretched out, exposing my bra underneath. This was a brand new dress that I tried on before I brought it to get it hemmed, and it was not in this condition. I wouldn't have brought the dress in to get hemmed if that area was so stretched out. Something happened to my dress when it was in this cleaner's custody. When I brought my dress back to ask what happened, she denied touching the area of the dress. I even showed her pictures of the dress before I brought it to her, but she continued to rudely deny she did anything wrong to my dress. She is a liar. I would not want to do any business with such a person. If I could give this cleaners zero stars I would. read more

I find Kim's Cleaners to be incredibly overpriced for the service and quality they give. I got a number of blouses and blazers dry cleaned and they didn't look or feel like they had been dry cleaned compared to cleaners I've used in the past. I expect my whites to look crisp and clean and Kim's did not deliver. I also got the sleeves of a standard black blazer hemmed and now the sleeve lengths are different. It's not that noticeable but when I took it back to Kim's, she flatly denied it and was not open to fixing it. On top of that, the hours are not flexible. I'm taking my clothes somewhere else. read more

I went to Kim's Custom Cleaner on a referral from my co-worker for some alteration work. I was greeted by the owner Susie and she was excellent understanding what I needed done and I was not disappointed. I usually do not reviews often but it's really hard to find good alteration work around DC area. I highly recommend Kim's Custom Cleaner. read more

Kim has been accommodating--she delivers and is a well-rounded tailor. I am satisfied! :)

I traveled to DC from NY for my law school reunion with a formal dress that desperately needed to be shortened. I called Kim on Friday and asked if I could bring the dress in Saturday morning for a same-day alteration. She was very friendly and accommodating and we agreed on a time I'd bring the dress. She had the dress ready by the afternoon and the alterations were absolutely perfect, and very reasonably priced. Thank you Kim for saving the day and helping me look my best at the gala :) read more

Needed a quick, reliable dry cleaners while I was in town for a business trip. Susie was very helpful and was very accommodating for my quick turn around. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

I REALLY didn't want to write a poor review, but after my fifth terrible experience, it needs to happen. It sounds like they do an excellent job with tailoring, but I highly recommend taking your clothes ANYWHERE else to be cleaned (or your shoes repaired, for that matter.) Kim's has misplaced two of my skirts (they did find them, but thank goodness I noticed and asked or I'm sure I would never have seen them again), ruined SIX dresses with burn and water marks (all from one trip), and I'm fairly certain that I have picked up multiple clothes that have not actually been cleaned, but just steamed. I think this because I have smelled stale deodorant on two blazers on two separate occasions, and even small stains are never out of my clothes when I pick them up. Despite all of this, what actually put me over the edge is when I took a pair of heels in for a heel tip replacement. I picked them up and the job was terrible - they didn't even use the correct color tip! - and walked on them indoors for three hours before the tip came off. When I took them back to Kim's Cleaners for an uncharged fix, they told me they can't do anything about it because they outsource their shoe repair and it's not their fault. Seriously?!? I can't even... I know that I gave them way too many chances as it is, but it was right across the street from my apartment at the time and was so convenient - I really wanted to like them! Instead I will literally go anywhere but here for all future cleaning orders, and highly recommend that everyone else do the same! read more

I have been a customer since 2 years. I brought skirts, dresses, shirts and jackets which needed alterations and Susie Rhee did such a great job. When my mother from Italy saw Susie's alterations on my clothes, she sent me a cashmere sweather she loved that needed alterations and Susie did such a wonderful job. I trust Susie so much that I asked her to make my wedding dress which my sister designed for me! She is the best tailor I have ever met! She also fixes all of my jeans and pants becuase being short and skinny it's difficult to find jeans/pants that fit well but Susie's magic hands makes them fit perfectly! She also does a great job on cleaning and the service is exceptional, speedy, and cost effective! I brought in winter coats, curtains made of a delicate material, blankets full of stains and everything smeels so good and looks like new! I am so blessed to have met Susie at Kim's Cleaners! read more

Excellent tailoring and cleaning services!!! And very fast turnaround! I wouldn't go anywhere else

I had a rip in my pants that I just noticed this morning, I stopped by Kim's to have it sewn up and she did it right there on the spot. I only had credit card, so I had to pay the $10 minimum, but I imagine it would have been cheaper if I had cash. Either way, it was excellent customer service and she was very quick and professional. read more

Arriving in town for a conference, I found several odd stains on my blazer when I unpacked it. I needed fast turnaround on an unknown stain, and Kim's Cleaners was absolutely amazing. read more

Kim's Cleaners is as professional as they come! The staff always provides amazingly prompt service and consistently makes sure little details are attended to; i.e. loose buttons on a jacket, or a loose thread on a pair of pants. In full disclosure, the prices are a bit higher than average, but the ability to receive same-day pick-up is worth it. read more

I've been using Kim's Cleaners for tailoring for about five years and think the owner is a fantastic and friendly. I had tried about 5 other tailors before finding Kim's, on the recommendation of Benetton nearby. My pants and suits are always perfect, and rush jobs are possible. I highly recommend this tailor. read more

I needed to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed for an event. I was excited to go to Kim's because it's just down the street from my office and the tailor seemed super friendly and willing to work within my (2-week) timeline. I picked up the dress this morning (2 days after I said I would) and come to find there is now a square ink stain near the bottom of the dress. The tailor pointed it out and insisted it was there before, that I should try to get my money back from the manufacturer but I seriously doubt that's where the ink stain came from. I'm very upset and will never go to this location again and would advise others who care about their clothes against going to Kim's Cleaners. read more

I haven't tried them for dry cleaning so can't comment on that but for alterations Kim's is amazing. I've been going there for about four years now, mainly for routine hemming. The best thing is that they know good fashion and how to work with nice clothes so with relatively few questions they will know exactly how to measure you for a fit that you like. The price seems to have creeped up a bit over the years and it's not a bargain but you get what you pay for and I'd rather pay a slight premium for a job well done. read more

Avoid them at all cost. I took in 4 suits to be altered. All the pants were altered at different lengths and they were all the same paints. One pair of pants had to be purchased again because they were so short. It took 2 months get the alterations correct. read more

Kim's Cleaners shredded my clothing. I understand that all companies make mistakes from time to time. But honest and responsible companies acknowledge those mistakes, apologize and make the customer whole. Kim's Cleaners did the opposite. The owner Susie is always on duty and she has always done a superb alteration jobs on everything. I highly recommend Kim's Cleaner.

Totally way over priced. My sister (who literally is a starving artist) was in town and spilled something on my comforter, she nicely took it to get it washed as it did not fit on the small washer in our building. The bill ended up being nearly 45 dollars for a 70 dollar comforter. To top it off the insides are now shredded and it is lumpy. What a rip off. Just moved to this neighborhood. No. way. I'm. going. back. read more
