The first time I went to Barr Cleaners was because another dry cleaner damaged my dress and I wanted to see if Barr could fix it. Not only was the woman behind the counter so friendly and polite, she was helpful. A few days later, she showed me the dress, and it looked fixed. When I arrived home to try it on, I could tell she did wonders. While the price I paid in the end was not the one she initially quoted, I was ok with paying slightly more as it involved fixing the hem and pleats of the bottom half of a dress as well as potentially adjusting the side seams where the pockets were. Additionally, she did caveat that she might not be able to fix the dress so I appreciated her upfront-ness. And so for the last two months, I have trekked to Farragut Square, greeting the folks behind the front desk and walking into the quaint space that is Barr Cleaners where the woman greets me by name and asks when I need my items. She is always flexible and can turn the items around within a day or two, if it's not a lot. Most of the times, I tell her she can take her time, and even still, it's only a couple of days, and I'm ok with that. The most recent dress I brought in clearly showed wear, and when I asked if she could take care of it, she smiled and said in her cute way, "No problem." Prices are a little pricey, but the service is worth it in my opinion. read more

July 9, 2026 I hate leaving bad reviews so much that I actually go back and delete them at later dates to not jeopardize anyone's livelihood or reputation, but this one will, hopefully, be immortalized. The first thing you need to know is that this establishment does not have a standardized list of services or prices anywhere online or in their shop. I first went to them on June 22 to have five dresses dry cleaned (quoted $79.45), one blazer dry cleaned and shortened (quoted $52.95), and one dress' zipper repaired as well as have it dry cleaned (quoted $52.99 or $29.99 depending on if the existing zipper was salvageable or needed to be replaced). The prices seemed a bit steep to me, so I told the woman at the desk, Eden, that I would shop around for a cleaner and maybe return. I decided that paying for convenience was worth it and returned on July 8 due to Barr's close proximity to my workplace. This time, I dropped off two dresses for dry cleaning/stain removal (paid $29.98), one dress to just have the zipper repaired (paid $28), and two blazers to just have shortened (paid $50 each). When I got to work, I realized that I was paying almost the exact same amount to simply have a blazer altered that I was quoted for an alteration AND dry cleaning a couple of weeks ago. I called to inquire about this and was given the runaround. A man who I suppose is the manager initially said that he did not know why the pricing was what it was then told me that it was perhaps due to some promotion going on. I asked how much the promotion was to result in the pricing nearly being equivalent, and he said 10% which still doesn't make sense. I told him so, then, presumably due to being tired of speaking with me, he told me that I could come pick up my items and receive a refund which worked perfectly fine with me. While picking up my items, Eden told me that the refund had to be processed through an accountant and that the man I spoke to before was not in at the moment to discuss things further. After getting in contact with him, he told me that the refund had been initiated and to text them my email address to receive proof of this via email. As of the afternoon of July 9, I have still not received an actual refund, confirmation of a refund, or any specific timeline for the processing of my refund. I called Barr this morning after they ignored my texts and got an AI assistant for the first time since trying to resolve this matter, so it seems I'll just be disputing these charges with my bank. These business practices are egregious, and I can only imagine how many others have been charged on a whim but did not realize and thus could not rectify matters. I cannot recommend Barr Cleaners any less. UPDATE (July 10, 2026): Barr Cleaners said they issued a refund this morning and requested my email to send me a refund receipt. I will update this review a final time when I receive the receipt. UPDATE (July 10, 2026): I received confirmation of a refund via email this afternoon. I'm glad to have this matter finally resolved, but my original rating still stands. read more

I took my puffer vest to get cleaned her after two small stains, when I picked it up I was horrified. Not only were the stains still there, there was two more stains and they STAPLED their papers to the hood of the vest leaving holes in the hood. They also stapled another paper to the coat hook inside and claimed they do this all the time, zero logic. I left a review, received a call that I would receive a refund and they would pay for the $300 vest. Of course neither happened so here I am. read more

Absolutely exceptional dry cleaning experience. Everything was ready exactly when estimated and for a really fair price. They got stains out, new and old despite telling me the older ones would be difficult. The thing that took this from a great to exceptional service for me, was that they sewed a damaged part of my tie back together. Not something I had asked for or expected, but the kind of attention to detail that made me feel like more than just a priority. read more

Amazing work! We dropped our clothes off and they were nicely washed and folded in a day!! They smelt wonderful and looked great. The man we dealt with was very pleasant. read more

I've been using Barr cleaners for about 8 months now, and the service is great. I've never had a problem with the dry cleaning service, it's reasonably priced, and it's efficient. The woman who runs the place is honest about what she can and can't do (e.g. whether a stain is likely to come out or not) and has done great work on some minor alterations. Definitely recommend! read more

This used to be a decent dry cleaner, but the quality of their service has deteriorated. My latest experience was horrible. I requested that they clean my suit jacket. I had to ask them to redo the jacket three (!) times, and it still was not clean. What is more, they almost lost it, which gave me much anxiety and worry. After a month of trial and error, I gave up, took my suit and will never return. read more

It seems like this place underwent an ownership change or management change. I used to be able to go in drop off clothes, tell them how I liked them done, like please no creases. The last three times all pants have been creased and now shirts. Time to find a new place. read more

I had a wool blanket and large bedspread cleaned. They picked up and returned cleaned items at the time requested. Both items were cleaned perfectly. read more

I went in specifically because I spilled sauce on my blazer, but they left the blazer still stained with sauce. The woman at the front desk was very kind though. read more

Very kind and sweet lady. Very polite. Very very reasonable prices and overall great service! Reasonable time to pick up cloths. 5/5

I go to Washington DC 2x a year to see my elderly mother. In the weeks before each trip I hold my best items to the side to have them cleaned/patched by Barr Cleaners while there during my visit. Worth every penny and dragging them across the country. I've never been let down by this business in terms of quality of service and timeliness of returning my items to me before I return home. Thank you, Barr! read more

Excellent dry cleaners near Farragut square. Just expanded their hours so even more convenient. Prices for shirts are reasonable. Tailoring is a bit pricey. read more

I loved finding this place initially, close to work and reasonably priced. Angie is a sweetheart and gets things done quickly. I brought a few 'test' items the first few times I went. I felt she did a good job and I trusted her more and more with my more treasured pieces. After some time, I decided to bring my wedding gown for a cleaning after doing a photoshoot before the wedding. BIG mistake. I splurged on this skirt + jumpsuit combo from BHLDN at Anthropologie. I took great care getting these items to Angie and asked her to please take extra care of since it was my wedding dress. As I was leaving, I noticed she tossed the skirt in a crumple in a laundry basket. My stomach turned, but I didn't say anything since I figured she would improve its condition before I returned. I should have trusted my gut. When I picked up the items, to my horror, I discovered that the dainty silk waistline had been punctured not once, not twice, but three different times with a safety pin to hang on a hanger. The skirt very clearly had cloth hooks in the side to hang it without damaging the waistline. You can even see these hooks in the picture an inch away from where the pin was stuck. How do you stick a pin in but not notice the loops you need to hang it from?? She saw how it was hung on the hanger when I gave to her. Additionally, because the skirt is so heavy and the skirt had been hanging from the silk waistline for a bit, it stretched the silk around the holes and the sheer material layer that hangs on top of the skirt itself. Although it is not ruined, it is most definitely not in the condition I left it in. As a bride, you want as many things as you can to be perfect on your day and this I cannot forgive. I cannot afford an entirely new one and it's way too close to my date to even order a new one even if I had the money. I unfortunately will have to take my business elsewhere. read more

Good place with pretty fast dry cleaning service. If you drop off before 2.30pm it is ready for pick up by 4pm the next day. Prices are a bit pricey though. I dry cleaned a long sleeveless vest and it was $8.50. Kim is super friendly though. read more

Dropped 13 shirts off today, very polite Korean lady told me they'd be ready in two days. They offer next day service, but with so many shirts, that seemed tough. Anyway, she came running outside to tell me to make sure to come back after 4, quite sweet. So far, very impressed, I'll follow up if there's anything noteworthy about the cleaning service. She quoted me I think it was $1.35 per shirt. Update: Got them back the next day, no complaints, nice place. read more

I've been taking my clothes to Angie for the past 2 1/2 years, and have 0 complaints! She is professional, reasonably priced, and does a fantastic job keeping my clothes in great condition. She has also patched some things up for me, fixed some shoes, as well as small alterations here and there. On top of all of this, she's a sweet, sweet lady! I just recently changed jobs and can no longer go to Barr Cleaners since it's only open during the week, and I've moved across town. I'm so sad! (she was too when I told her). If you are convenient to 17th and K at all, take your clothes to Angie! TRUST. read more

I walked in with a small tailoring emergency - a button had come off of my jacket on the train as I came to DC for a formal event. She happily sewed it back on in minutes. Great service, very friendly. I'm glad I found her. read more

First time frequenting this establishment. Shirts are $1.75 (including light starch), skirts/pants/blouses are $5.50, sweaters are $5.75, and dresses are $14. One tip for this place is you pre-pay. They do have a next-day options. The owner seems very nice and personable. Will update review after I get my clothes back. read more

Another happy customer at Barr Cleaners for both dry cleaning and alterations/repairs. Prices are competitive for downtown, and service is always fast and friendly. Angie (behind the counter) is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. The shop is located in the building between Firehook Bakery and the 7-11. There's usually (always?) a sign on the sidewalk with an arrow that points you to the shop. You'll see a sign for Barr Cleaners on the first floor, right past the security guard station. read more

Dropped off a huge load of dry cleaning. Very nice woman. Even left my cellphone at the counter and she came running after me to return it. Plus this place is very reasonably priced - ladies suits/dresses (~$10), blouses/pants/skirts (~$5). She even threw in an additional 10% off discount because I had a large load. Overall, this is the best dry cleaner I've found in DC yet (I've lived here for a year and have tried ~5 different dry cleaners after following recommendations on Yelp. read more

Angie (the owner) is amazing - the work she does is fantastic and it's a great value. I've gotten dry cleaning done and it was cheap and quick, but I also had a suit tailored. It was a complicated job - taken in, sleeves shortened, pants hemmed and also taken in - and they came out incredibly well. I called Stephen's the Tailor, which is also highly reviewed on Yelp, and they quoted me more than double the price for the same job. In addition to being affordable, Angie is always trying to be helpful and is incredibly kind. I would definitely recommend her to my friends. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I went there once and they 'lost' my favorite blouse. They paid me less than half for it. I never went there again. The only reason there is one star, is because Yelp makes you do it. read more

The woman who runs Barr Cleaners is fantastic. They quickly turn around both dry cleaning and tailoring. I've had a few pants tailored here and have no complaints. Highly recommend! read more

Went there for first time. They returned all my items but one and it was a man's shirt! I am a female and honestly returned the item. Tell me why they 1) won't return my money for the lost item cleaning fee 2) never apologized for their mistake oh and 3) never found my blouse! Word to the wise....be careful going there! read more

I am very happy with Barr Cleaners. I was using another local cleaners and was having problems with the quality of the alteration. The owner, Ms. Angie went above and beyond on tailoring to fix the problems. Ms. Angie is very kind and she does a phenomenal job, also a very quick turnaround. I live in Springfield, VA but go to Barr Cleaners for all my alteration since. read more

The service at Barr Cleaners is excellent. The woman who works there (I think her name is Angie) is so polite, and her company does a great job with dry cleaning and tailoring. Barr Cleaners was a great place to take my dry cleaning in between work! I'm usually at work for the majority of the day, so I appreciate their early opening and time closing. I was able to drop off a shirt there right before work at 8:30, and it was ready for pick up the next day. When I called to pick up the shirt ten minutes before they closed, she was very nice and said she would wait for me to get there. I loved her hospitality as well! I will definitely be using them again for my dry cleaning! read more

Thoroughly disappointed in this place. It's close to work so I decided to try it out-- I altered the hem of a dress and had my coat dry cleaned. I might as well have washed my coat at home myself because it came back looking exactly the same. They could have used a lint roller on it at the very minimum, but they didn't even do that. My dress was fine, but too short. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Angie is an amazing seamstress. I've given her about 3 dresses to date - all needing complex tailoring - and she did a fabulous job. She will work with you to make it absolutely perfect - so accommodating and sweet. Also reasonably priced. read more

I have to agree with what previous reviewers have said-- I indicated a spot on one of the tops I had dropped off and instead of cleaning it there was just a large stain where they had dropped water/solvent on it and spread it out. Also, I really didn't feel like my clothes seemed that clean. Probably won't be back here if I can find somewhere else convenient. read more
