Took two pants and a suit jacket to Swift Cleaners about a month ago, and they did a great job. Turnaround was quick, and they got out some tough stains, reinforced a button, and even fixed some stitching on my pants. DO NOT recommend. Full details below but the short version: damaged dress shirts, poor communication, lack of full compensation for our troubles and damages. I've never had a problem with ANY dry cleaners, ever, not even the cheap place Zips in the suburbs, but our FIRST (and last) visit to this place turned into a catastrophe. First, we were informed my husband's favorite and nicest white dress shirt was damaged by ink. The would keep it and try to fix it with a special ink remover and get back to us. Allegedly the other items were OK. However, we got home and my husband found that another shirt of his had broken buttons and an ink spot, and a third shirt seemed to be tinted slightly pink. Neither shirt was totally unwearable, but definitely damaged. However, I had walked out with 8 items and not paid a dime, so we decided to just let it go instead of making a fuss. We figured the free dry cleaning made up for the troubles and damages. Then, a MONTH later, I went back for the white shirt. It still has ink spots on it, but I took it, again, thinking we weren't being charged anyway and it came out even. BUT THEN, I was charged $80!!!!! I complained to the manager and asked for a refund. He offered me a FIFTEEN DOLLAR CREDIT. I was floored. I said that wasn't adequate so he then offered me $8 of refund. I said I expected a full refund and he came back with $30 to compensate for the damaged white shirt. The shirt is worth probably about $50 (we don't have the receipt anymore), but I was fed up with the whole thing and took the $30. I wasn't going to leave a negative review, assuming we had had a freak experience, but now that we've been given damaged items AND poor customer service and lack of compensation, I feel the need to share this. We will be going to Georgetown Valet one block away instead from now on. read more

This place is the worst customer experience I ever encountered. I intentionally came to this establishment to support local 17th street businesses. After I waited 20 mins in line to drop my clothes off, the cashier (small guy with errands/wearing headphones and a hat)was extremely rude, condescending, and treated me with ultimate disrespect. Completely ruined me and my partner's beautiful day. There's plenty of other options and I highly recommend to reconsider being a customer here. Very over priced. I asked them to fix a hole in a dress and the stitch job was absolutely horrible. (Picture below). I asked them to remove a stain, they charged me for stain removal, but the stain was still very much there (pictured below) and I found a new stain on a different garment I gave them. There's a pandemic going on, things are chaotic, prices are increasing, I understand. But to secretly add charges and not tell your customer is another thing. I've been coming to this spot for several years. With the pandemic, I rarely go to the office so I don't bring in my button ups as much. I brought in 2 shirts early Thursday afternoon and asked if they could be done by Saturday, the guy said that would be an extra rush charge, so I said no thanks. Then he muttered that it's only a dollar extra and that I don't have to be cheap. I brushed off his comment. On Friday, I got an email saying that my dry cleaning was done. I opened the receipt and it showed I was charged $2 for a rush fee. I called to ask about it since I did not need it to be rushed. The guy immediately got super defensive saying how he didn't add it on but since I wanted my shirts starched it was an extra $1 per shirt. I told him I wasn't charged for starching a month ago and he said well this time it was for the starching fees. Thankfully, at the time, I took a screenshot of the receipt to ask Dan, the owner, because I went back to double check to write this review and the rush fee was MYSTERIOUSLY GONE; however, the charged amount was still the same. I get that times are tough...it's just $2. But if they're deceitfully adding on $1 per shirt for a basic button up dry cleaning that costs $4 per shirt, I wonder what other charges they're adding on to other garments and alternations. Also included a photo of the time they ripped my shirt and they got defensive and accused me of bringing in a ripped shirt. Anyways, it's more of a hassle to bring it to this place, than not to. Save your time and energy and go elsewhere. Dan, I'm not sure how often you're at the store these days, but your lack of constant presence and leadership is really affecting the customer service and quality your shop produces. read more

Been going to Swift's for over a year now, after the dry cleaner I was using closed due to covid. The staff is friendly and accommodating. My order is usually ready ahead of schedule to pick up. I have taken everything from shirts, dresses and coats to blankets and quilts to Swifts and everything is returned clean, fresh and pressed. Without question, the WORST dry cleaner in all of DC. Arrogant. Standoffish. And cheats... charging their customers inconsistent prices for the same garment. When confronted with the question as to why the same shirt would be one price last week and 2.5 times that price this week, I was met with a "F@&k you!" He saves a ton of time he would have otherwise spent ironing. I've used them for numerous alterations. I am freakishly short, so stores never have my size. I came in to try and pick up my pants a day after the scheduled date they were supposed to be ready. Staffperson tells me "they're not ready" and "it's not my fault." I asked for an explanation since they gave themselves quite a bit of time to alter my pants. Tells me that maybe they'll be ready in four more days. That's almost 10 days for a pant's hem. I asked for my pants so I can take them to a different tailor. Staffperson tells me my pants aren't there. No offer of a discount, no apologies, just a helluva lot of attitude. Having now been a patron of Swift for over 5 years, and having had a long run of great service, I wanted to update my review. Nobody and no cleaning service is perfect, but the kind people at Swift Cleaners earnestly try their best day in and day out. They do a great job with my dress shirts, let me know when a particular type of fabric needs special attention and have expertly cleaned some of my wife's more difficult garments (rain coats, etc.). I have two frustrating beefs with Swift Cleaners. First is that despite repeated requests to stop doing this, they continually press my (men's) button down shirts like a women's blouse - with the collar spread way out like a 1970s disco outfit. This happens even the shirt has a buttoned collar. Second is they are mutilating my buttons. Brand new shirts are needing buttons replaced (they're crumbling) after 5 or so trips to the cleaners. I have taken my clothes in only a couple of times, but each time I do, I'm treated very nicely, am charged reasonably, and always given the importance if I need a garment rushed out the door without hassle. This most recent time, I needed some alterations. The measurements were done thoroughly, and I felt comfortable with their prices compared to others in the area (~$14 for a hem). I originally came to Swift cleaners to alter a bridesmaids dress after seeing all of the good reviews on yelp. Although a little pricier than I would want the service seems good and a job well done. I just received word yesterday that the family who had been running this location has left. The lady who called to settle accounts said it had all become just too much to keep up with. "They were living to work rather than working to live." and decided they needed a change. My experience with Swift was both hit and miss. If I needed something ASAP, they would bend over backward to makesure it came through for me. They alway's seemed friendly and well intentioned but just a bit overwhelmed. I'll miss the friendly faces...though maybe my suit coat's won't have to, "Wait for the tailor to come fix a loose button", quite so often. I used to chuckle when I heard this because I knew it really meant....We're drowning in clothes and can't get them out fast enough. They did push an awful lot of volume through that tiny location. Edit: 9/03/2008 After the new owners took over Swift they suspended pickup service to our building. That said... they're simply not convenient enough for a better score.
