They took care of everything I needed as a guest in DC. They were quick and accurate, providing excellent stain removal.

I used to love this place, and thought they did a very good job. But to date they have now lost a suit, a pair of pants from a second suit, and a pair of dress slacks. All of them no more than 3 months old. The owner refused to take my calls until today, when I threatened to sue. But we're still far from resolution. They're acting like 1.) I'm lying to them or 2.) the clothes never existed. My fault - which I will admit - is that I trusted them too much. Makes me wonder what else I'm missing. Dupont neighbors, beware. 7/18/2007 They reluctantly admit to loosing my suit, but are forcing me to sue them for any sort of compensation. 7/19/2007 Employee tells me my claim check number is not valid, and keeps referring to female owner Choe as a man. I advise that I will bring them a copy of the claim check. 7/23/2007 Choe attempts to defend that they gave me back my suit. After about 30 minutes of back and forth face to face, she starts to concede that they may have erred. 1 hour later, she calls me and we agree to settle out of court. Georgetown Valet has become my go-to for dry cleaning and alterations. The owners are very professional and have always treated me well. They dry clean my clothes and I feel like they're brand new again. As for alterations, I have taken several pants there and they've always come out perfectly fitted. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! If I could give them 0 stars, I would... They were late with the clothes I needed for a big event and the woman there wasn't even apologetic. When I asked that they waive the fee for being late, she offered to waive it for half the clothes but not the other half. I argued with her for 40 minutes over $6 as a matter of principle -- how can you say that it was your fault that everything was late, but only waive half of the fee for a service you didn't provide when it was needed? She was also rude, yelling at me, sneering at my comments, refusing to look at me, ignoring me, walking away when I was talking to her. I tried to be considerate of other customers and let them go first so I could talk to her with her undivided attention. She was still rude and uncooperative. When I requested to speak to her manager she refused. What kind of customer service is that?! Go if you want to pay $6 to clean to one pair of pants and to get yelled at when they are late or lose your stuff. read more

There are cleaners closer to where I live but I walk three extra blocks to go to this one. They're incredibly friendly and courteous. I've never encountered anything less than a smile. They're super efficient. On more than one occasion they've accommodated a fast turn around time for me. I use them for cleaning, ironing, and alterations and can't imagine taking my business elsewhere. Love this place. read more

She only started acknowledging my existence as a human when she realized I was married to the man I come in with all the time; prior to that, she seemed to take pleasure in being cantankerous. The owners, a husband and wife, are really, really friendly--like the nicest people I've met in DC. I'm always greeted with a smile when I walk in, and then usually we talk about the weather. Yes, it's small talk, but these folks are just so dang nice that I enjoy it. And the Korean ginger cookies by the register are delicious. They are rude as hell here but I can handle bad customer service at a dry cleaner as long as they do a good job. I spilled a very bright adult beverage all over myself due to being a little out of it. The item--of course--was a cute, cotton, WHITE, jacket. I went in there asking if they could get it out. The women basically rolled her eyes and I don't remember what she said exactly, but I left having little confidence that my white jacket that turned to 3/4 cranberry and vodka color would ever see it's pure white self again. I do remember her saying that she sends out a lot of items, and this guy had 24 years of experience. I came back a couple of weeks later (I forgot I dropped in off), and low and behold, my jacket was very white again!!! The woman was a little sweeter when I picked it up. Maybe due to the $10er + 1 I was handing over. I think the prices are pretty fair for the area. I literally walked down 17th St in Dupont going into every cleaner getting the odds of my jacket's huge stain being removed. Most were not that confident or reassuring, but Gtown Valet did it! read more

Well, I guess I'm alone here in thinking the woman who runs this store (for her sister who is pretty sick, FYI) is actually one of the nicer people I deal with in Dupont Circle. Maybe everyone should try saying hi or asking how someone is doing -- I find that works pretty well. I understand this city is one full of the self-important masses who are too busy for others, but just FYI: common courtesy works. My clothes are always nicely done and on-time; I love that this opens up at 7 a.m. I recently had them take up a new pair of jeans, and they did the best job keeping the original hem I've ever seen. It was only $20 to take them up and keep the hem, and I got them back within a week. It costs about the same at Nordstrom and usually takes closer to two weeks. Win. The dry cleaning can be pricey, but since I moved from Texas, I've NEVER found cheap dry cleaning in a city's center. It was crazy-expensive in Denver, and it's expensive here. I'd rather pay than risk any clothes getting ruined. read more

I feel as if the woman that works there goes out of her way to be unpleasant. That being said, the prices are a bit on the high side for dry cleaning in the neighborhood. The return date is also longer than I've experienced at other dry cleaners. My shirts came out OK, so I'm giving Ms. Rude a second star. Update: I just bought a new sports coat, a nice light color, unconstructed, perfect for more informal events at the university. I then had dinner at a pleasant local meze place and promptly deposited tiny pieces of oily vegetables upon the same new sports coat. One could appreciate the random dark blotches, but they were disappointingly located on only one portion of the coat (a noticeable portion too), so off I went to Georgetown Valet. I just picked up the coat, and it looks like new. ----------------- I'm not a high demand kind of guy when it comes to dry cleaning. I never remember my ticket. Sometimes I forget for a couple of weeks that I have something at the cleaners. I've been coming here since 2011. I came here from coastal San Diego, and found the prices a little bit higher. But, my clothes come out great, they don't reek of dry cleaning, and they're prompt enough for me. I also get small repairs done here - torn pocket, lost button, etc - and the services are always well done. Last year my sister-in-law was visiting from Germany and had her favorite winter coat with her. The lining was pretty shot from many German winters. She was heading back in three days. We went in and got a quote to replace the lining given the time constraints. The cost was far less than a new coat (and who can replace a favorite coat, after all?) It came out great, and I got to see that same long red coat again this Christmas... The folks there are always friendly to me and who ever comes in with me. The worst that ever happened was, once, I came in and Jay said "It's been a long time!" I replied "Not that long", and she looked me up - it had been six months. I took a Coach purse to this dry cleaner to see if it could be dry cleaned. The woman at the counter said she didn't know, but that if I left it there, she would ask another woman who worked there and was apparently more knowledgeable. I called the next day to check in and was told it was fine and had been cleaned. When I went to pick it up, they first couldn't locate my items and had no record of me in their computer system. When they finally found my things, the purse was destroyed. The fabric had runs across the back, the leather was peeling and the tag was completely stripped. They offered me a $20 discount. I moved to Dupont in September and started using this place because it was the closest to my apartment. They are great! The lady who works the counter is easily the one of the nicest people I've ever met, and always more than helpful. I needed to pick-up laundry this morning before catching a flight and ran over 30 minutes before they were open! They were in the middle of setting up, no computers, no lights, etc... Kim and Jay ARE FANTASTIC. They provide kind, responsive, and quality service. Sometimes I run in here needing something fast, like alterations or cleaning of a special outfit, and they help without a hitch. Good hearted, professional people! I have taken a few items here for dry cleaning and have been consistently impressed with how nice the staff are. They'll go out of their way to open the door for you, come around the counter to give you your clothes, always have free cookies at the counter, etc. They also give you the option to either pay when you drop off items for cleaning or when you pick them up. Kim provides excellent laundry, dry cleaning, and alterations. She is friendly, honest and flexible even if you need things done quickly or on short notice. Her alterations exceeds expectations, and I have had several suits customized by her (hems, waists, jackets), and my girlfriend has had formal, cocktail, and complicated dresses customized/altered. Our initial hesitations having suits/dress alterations by new dry cleaner have long disappeared and I understand why Kim receives wedding dress, suit, and tuxedo business. read more

This place is terrible! They confirmed with me on my receipt that my clothes would be ready by 5:00 PM on Wednesday. I came back Thursday morning at 9:30, and they still were not done. She told me to come back in 20 minutes, which I did, and then she said definitely not before 4:30. Then they told me that in order to get my shirt back, i needed to pick it up at a different location at 16th and U. WHAT?? These guys are great!! In 2 years of going here, I've never had a single issue. They go above and beyond to be friendly- remembering my name, etc. I take a couple of bags of suits and shirts here a month, and it's always ready on time (usually 2-3 days turnaround, but they have always been able to accommodate a quicker turnaround, when needed). They were even able to remove a stain from a hand-me down silk tie with sentimental value I've taken to two other cleaners. I've also had 2 items tailored here and both were done exactly to my liking. Prices for dress shirts, suits, and blazers are very reasonable. I would recommend without hesitation! As others have mentioned, I think the previous negative reviews were form the former owner. One stop in here and you'll realize it's not about the new(ish) owners! read more

1. The incident. My shirt comes back with a black, greasy spot on the front. Surprise, because in fairness to Madame: Most of my shirts have come out OK over the past year. 2. The "cure". "Generous" offer to "redo" it, at no charge. Stubborn refusal to refund the price for the first round. Gotta make a living... 3. The interlude. The "redo" does nothing. Shirt is ruined. Spot is small, but highly visible. OK. There is no perfect dry cleaner in this world. What about a friendly apology? 4. The blaming game: Madame is quite rude and turns aggressive (as before on other occasions). It's the machines! And the people who operate them! And she has nothing to do with either of them! 5. The dissociation: Keeps telling me that this must be ink (i.e. my fault), although it was not. Fantasizes that "they" tested the spot and it proved to be... ink! Implies that I am lying to her (Aaron, co-reviewer of 2007, I hope you keep reading this exciting blog...). 6. The bottom line: Customer, abandon all hope if something has gone wrong at this place. read more

For over the past year, I've been using the services of Georgetown Valet on Q Street, NW, in part, they were right around the corner from my apartment (I've moved a few blocks away and still go to Georgetown Valet). It was not until today that I've actually read the reviews. I can not say enough how the reviews are very old and do not reflect my experience. First of all, from what I read it looks like the reviews are about the former owner is no longer there. The couple that now owns and operate Georgetown Valet are very interactive with their customers. Taking the time to discuss the needs of the customer, remembering names and making sure they deliver when they say they will. They greet everyone with a smile and sincere welcome. Second, the quality of service is second to none. They truly perform quality control on their work - when something comes back not right they take care of it. Replacing broken buttons, stains removed, etc... Third, they expertly alter cloths. They always deliver any alterations that I need on the first time. All their costs are in line with other dry cleaners in DC, if not slightly less. For someone who seeks value in taking care of his clothing, travels quite a bit, changing schedule and need to have my dry cleaning and alterations taken care - Georgetown Valet is my choice! read more
