I didn't use them for cleaning, but I wanted to leave this review simply because of how helpful the employee was when I stopped in. I was on a business trip and realized that my pants were too big. I went in hoping to find the seamstress/tailor on duty so that I could get a quick alteration, but alas, it was a day when the alterations station was not staffed. The employee at the counter was very helpful though and not only me a safety pin to use, she helped me install it at the back of my pants. I turned in a winter sweater to be dry cleaned. When it was returned, I realized that it was probably washed, not dry cleaned, as it had shrank from a Mens Medium to small Kids size Small. I made several visits to eventually meet with the manager. I showed her the receipt for the sweater purchase, which was $220, and I asked that at least 70% be admitted, which was refused by management. She accepted fault but only offered $50 for a $220 sweater. Not acceptable. Their wall on the left is plastered with printed customer remarks and printed 5-star reviews, however, their customer service is quite terrible and I was unfortunate to have to find out the hard way. read more

After having some pretty bad experiences with dry cleaners/alterations in the dupont area, World Cleaners has really been a great relief. The prices are really hard to beat ($4.45 for pants, $4.75 for shirts) for the area and the customer service is really amazing. I needed a skirt cleaned in one day, and being that they send away the clothes, that wasn't really a doable option. However, the sales clerk was nice enough to wash it by hand and press it for me so that I could have it in less than a day. Awesome! The alterations are done really, really well- I have gotten pants shortened, lengthened, taken in, taken out- every alteration done perfectly and within a reasonable time for a reasonable price. All and all I am relieved to have found World Cleaners and will continue to support their business! read more

I'm not sure where the negative reviews come from. I've been using them for the past couple months and have had no issues. Men's shirts are super cheap at $.99 each and come out great. I haven't had much else dry cleaned, but my shirts have been done well. I also had some pants hemmed there. They turned out fine. Although, I think it's pretty difficult to mess up hemming a pair of pants. Overall, good prices and good service. They're my go-to place. read more

We took a large load of dry cleaning and men's shirts (almost $100 worth). The clothes came back clean, but smelled funny. I'm not sure what cleaner they use, but my clothes smelt less fresh than when they were dirty. The stallness really bothered me. I fluffed my clothes in the dryer with a lavendar sache!!! It was a fair price by DC standards, but I don't want to pay for my clothes to be worse smelling. One shirt was "lost" in the hussle. The lady was very helpful in retrieving it, though. It was just a bit annoying since it was our first experience. The communication was a little hard. read more

I've been going to World dry cleaners for years. Over the years, I've had several garments faded in spots when they clean them, but I accepted it. Quality has been dropping over time, but I've stayed with them as they are convenient in the neighborhood. A few months ago, they ruined a blazer neck and buttons, and I thought it was an odd accident. But today I picked up a) a fancy ladies top where they couldn't clean any of the spots but managed to fade it plus b) a pair of sport pants, where they failed at a simple stitching job around a pocket. They did a similar stitch repair on the other pocket a few weeks ago, but they couldn't even match that-- and they mangled the fabric. The clerk was not at all concerned and didn't seem to understand the issue. That's the last straw. I won't ever give them my business again. read more

I think it's time that I switched dry cleaners. I have been with World Cleaners 2 for almost 2 years now and for the first 19 months they were great! I liked the Taiwanese lady who used to work there, Ping, but ever since she left in September, the quality of the service has been going way down hill. I don't know if the new lady that works there send the clothes to a different cleaner or what, but ever since she took over, my boyfriend's shirts have been coming back with buttons missing, and 2 new shirts came back with a big rip on the elbow!!! Needless to say, he was pissed!! And they've also started clipping all the sleeves together so when everything's hanging in the closet, you can't just reach in and pull a shirt out, you have to undo all the sleeves first. Very annoying if you forget to do that when you get back from the dry cleaners and are rushing in the morning. read more

I think you can only switch dry cleaners if they do something egregiously wrong. Why? I don't know. Loyalty isn't always my thing. Still, when I moved here, I picked World Cleaners since it was close to my house, on the way home from the metro, and so forth. So far, they have not disappointed me. I like the woman who is always there, though it worries me that she is always there. When I was particularly pathetic and needed buttons sewn on, or a hemline taken up she was great. I never compare prices on dry cleaning (It might bring the dry cleaning revenge gods out who will punish me for washing so many things that say "dry clean only."). So I can't tell you that this is a good deal or not, but it is a dry cleaner and she'll even rush stuff if you are desperate. read more

Anyway, this place is great, in a very convenient location, for a very affordable price. It closes on Sunday and collar shirts are only $.99c! This may not be the best dry cleaner in DC but it will do a great job. So far i haven't had any issues and i usually drop lots of stuff every week. read more

As dry cleaners go, this place is juuuusst right. For me, their proximity earns them their first gold star. On top of that, they're fairly priced and they have good customer service. After a leak in our closet ceiling, my fiance and I took in loads of clothes that had been soaked-through. One of our shirts had been water stained, and their staff tried three times to get the stain out. It was a valiant effort, and while that shirt didn't make it, everything else came back clean and, most importantly, mustiness-free! Five men's suits were spared due to their strong work. I brought a full size comforter here to be cleaned and have a tear in it stitched up. When I picked it up, the stain I wanted removed was still there and overall it doesn't seem like the comforter was thoroughly cleaned. Also they have a sign in their window that says 30% off orders $20 or more on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I brought this in on a Saturday but they did not give me the discount, saying the discount is only for clothes so I felt kind of mislead. They stitched up the hole nicely though so that's good I guess. read more

After reading an earlier post about how someone's boyfriend found that one of his shirts has a rip in the elbow, I felt that I needed to post a review. I started using World Cleaners in May and have tossed out 8 shirts due to rips in the elbow. It is always the same elbow and in the same spot. At $200 to $300 a shirt, I cannot afford to continue to use this cleaners. The gentleman who is usually behind the counter does not seem to understand that I do not want to continue using his location as the clothes will still continue to go to the same processing plant. Providing me with an in-store credit simply doesn't cut it. read more

This place is fabulous. We've been taking all of our clothes here for years, and the service and quality is great. Ben is so nice and friendly, and the service is impeccable. My boyfriend and I have gotten alterations here too -- mine came out not-so-great so I usually do them myself. It seems like women's clothing gets lost in translation. But for mens' clothing, the alterations are amazing. For dry cleaning and mens' alterations, this place is beyond great. We lived in Brooklyn for a long time and always had so-so experiences with our dry cleaning.. but this place is great. read more

Excellent cleaners. Shirts are impeccably pressed, and you can't beat the price at .99 each. Repair service has salvaged a suit for me at reasonable prices. Manager is low key, service-oriented, and friendly; he's also a classical musician (a French Horn player) with a graduate degree and if you are lucky he will be practicing one of his pieces while you are there. read more

I would not recommend this place, especially never for shoes or leather products of any kind. Beyond the odd smell when you walk in which affects your newly cleaned clothes, they pin your clothes to the hangar, leaving noticeable needle-shaped holes. They also ruined a pair of my shoes by polishing the ends of them with the wrong color and then instead of replacing the sole on another of my shoes, they just super-glued it and charged me $17. I think it is very pricy for bad work; I am personally taking my business elsewhere. read more

World Cleaners 2 has just earned itself a super loyal new customer. I bought two pairs of white jeans on Target.com because the price was excellent (under $25). Whereas I don't normally mind spending the $26 to take in a waistband, these were (a) jeans and (b) white and I just couldn't see spending over $40 per pair to have them hemmed and the waistbands taken in the customary way when they may not even survive the summer. The cleaner I'd been going to for years refused to help me out despite my pleas that I just wanted a couple darts sewn in the waistbands. So I stopped by World Cleaners (based on Yelp reviewers who said the service was very friendly) and spoke with Ben. Although he explained why the other cleaner refused to help me, he was also a total sweetheart and took pity on me. He ended up sewing the waist darts by hand himself for a very modest fee just to help me out. I was entirely prepared to have the final result look less than professional, so when he handed me the pants and they looked awesome I was just floored. He had sewn the darts so that the waistband hugged my waist perfectly (also doing a better measuring job than my other cleaner ever had when taking in the waist) and he had hidden the seams under the belt loops. He clearly was motivated by a desire to do a good job, not just make a quick buck, and insisted I try the jeans on so he could see his handiwork. More importantly, he seemed kind and genuinely anxious to help, whereas the woman at the other cleaner was utterly unsympathetic and unapologetic, and gave me an unecessary speech about professional standards, despite the fact that I've been going there for many years and we'd always had a good relationship in the past. read more

I have had a ball gown cleaned here and many items altered here. The woman is a whiz with a needle. She fixed the lining of a skirt that had completely come apart, took in and hemmed some trouser jeans, and fixed the hem of a dress that another dry cleaners (7 Brothers) ruined and refused to fix. Everything is exactly as I asked for and the cleaning always looks great. The cleaning services are a bit more expensive, but the alteration services are very reasonable. read more

While the service is pleasant and they're well priced, the work at World Cleaners is truly terrible. It's very convenient to my house so I've stupidly kept going back (3 times) in the hopes that mediocre but convenient would be good enough. It has never been wonderful, but my latest experience was just catastrophic. My bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding fit me like a parachute. I needed it taken in significantly. I took it there and he fitted me using what I think were diaper pins. Then he sent it out to their other location for alteration. (The tailor is not at the 18th St. location.) When I got it back they had totally changed the shape of the skirt without actually managing to make it fit. It's totally un-wearable and the hem wasn't even finished. I had to pay them $20 to get them to give me the dress back and I've had to take it to another tailor to first repair the damage and second get it to fit me. I just hope that my sister-in-law doesn't notice that the formerly A-line skirt is now nearly a pencil skirt. In the end I will have spent about $80 getting this dress altered. To his credit the clerk did offer to try to fix it, but after damaging it so terribly I just didn't trust them to fix it correctly. They are well intentioned and polite, but just horrible at sewing and cleaning clothes. read more

In full disclosure I will note that they looked like someone had done a poor ironing job on them, with wrinkles still in the front near the crotch.
