It's a shame I cannot leave zero stars because zero is the amount of work and customer service that Kim's Alterations gives to its customers. For the record, my family has been using Kim's for over 10 years, but they have unfortunately fallen steep in their quality and service. Long story short, they twice could not properly alter or fix a dress and ruined it, causing it to be unwearable. We expected to be fully compensated for the alterations as well as for the price of the dress to be able to purchase a new one. The older woman then tried to tell me to give her the dress and was trying to pull it from my hands across the counter and the next thing we were both not letting go. They did not understand that we were not selling or trading the dress, but that the dress had been ruined after two attempts and we would be taking business elsewhere. They also did not provide a receipt for the charges for each dress, and the other owner was very rude, telling us not to come back, but why would we anyway? Do not go to Kim's alterations. Go to Shareen's Alterations in independence, Missouri instead. They have been around for many years and have also been good to me and my family! read more

This place has been in business since I was in school 30 years ago, yet the gentleman who has been there the last two times I've gone in does not appear to speak English very well, so I was unable to communicate my needs despite it being only two seems And I was literally showing it to him. The woman who used to be there has not been present the last two times I've tried to go in. Both times I walked out without getting service. The most recent time I walked in, the entire place cigarettes to the point that I was not able to stay inside for more than two minutes before I started coughing and hacking and ended up having to step outside while I waited my turn to talk to the man. I have a neoprene brace (I have to wear it due to a badly broken ankle) that needed a seen repaired and, even showing it to him, he still didn't understand. I once again left. Honestly, had he not been my last resort I would not have left it there anyway with the horrendous smokes smell in the place. I can't imagine anyone gets their items back without having them reek of smoke from being there. I will find a different seamstress/tailor. read more

Went in to have a pair of new work jeans cut down to make shorts. I left one pair to have and inseam of 6 inches and job was fine. After trying on at home I decided to go with 4 1/2 inch inseam so took remaining 6 pair in and talked to only person there, an asian lady with very poor english. I even showed her the shorts I had on that was the pair she had done first. Returned and she had cut 4 1/2 inch off the bottom of jeans not the inseam and when I pointed it out she did not seem to understand. The man that was there this time agreed it was wrong told her to do from inseam. Went in two days ago and two pair were at 6 inch inseam, 3 at 7 inch , and one at 6 1/2. None at 4 1/2 that I paid for. I had paid at the second time before seeing they were wrong and have not decided if it is worth trying again. read more

Ruined my dress. Completely destroyed the bottom hem, dress was too short and crooked. I also paid to have it steamed and it wasn't done correctly either. Will never go back or recommend this place to anyone! read more

Disappointed in the quality of work and it wasn't ready when they said it would be and at no time did the say they only accept cash until I showed up the second time to get my dress.... I had to go to the ATM to get cash and return and I had to give them extra because they had no change .... My dress jewels around belt area are not sewn on as I had asked for and part of it was already falling off. Hemming was fine. I'm going to have to figure out how to get it fixed within a week before my daughters wedding now . Very disappointed! read more

Kim completed my Maid of Honor dress alterations quickly and beautifully. Even with an impending snow storm she was able to get the needed alterations completed before the storm hit so I would have the dress for that wedding. I highly recommend Kim's alterations! read more

it took 3 times for her to get my wedding dress acceptable. it only needed to be hemmed and and taking in an inch in the chest area. she took it in so much the first time that it couldn't zip up half way. then she made it too big that I would end up flashing my whole family. so the third time it was acceptable but during the wedding it kept falling down so I needed to keep pulling it up. it fit better before she messed with it. my dress also had pockets and she sewed one of them up! I didn't notice till my wedding. I would never come back and think the whole experience was a waste of money. please just go somewhere else. read more

I had a very nice experience going here. I really didn't know if an alteration shop was the place to go to have a heavy duty patch put on a jacket but she was really helpful. She did a great job quickly and at a fair price. What more could you want? I definitely recommend. read more

Horrible!!! I took my rehearsal dress to her a month before I needed it! I called the day before I was supposed to pick it up. She said it would be done and I could pick it up "tomorrow". When I got there the next day she tried to tell me I lost weight and she had to take it in again! Not true she had not even started! When I called her out on it then she stared making up excuses for why it was not done! She also didnt have my mother's dress or sister's bridesmaid dress done for the wedding that was that weekend! She then told us to come back at 7:00 that same day and it would be done...NOPE!!! We finally had to come back the next day (day of my rehearsal and day before my wedding) to pick up all 3 dresses! She had a month to work on them and DIDNT DO ANYTHING until two days before the wedding!!! When it was time to pay her she said it was $50.00 perdress when the first time I went there she said it would be $40.00. We paid her just to get the heck out of there!!! Also, while we were there a group of men came in to get their pants for their wedding the same day as mine and she didn't do their pant either!!! She is not organized or on time with anything!! Finally, when I got the dress the stiching was white and my dress is pink, The stiching also didnt match up where she cut the dress to take it in so my decrative design around the dress is lop sided. Took my wedding dress to her she was amazing fast and very reasonably proced!! I was very happy with her work!

I dropped my garment off to her to be taken in by three inches. She gave me a date of one week to come back in and pick it up. I came back in a week and three days later and she hadn't even started on it. She told me she would get started that day and have it finished by the end of the day and call me when it was ready. I didn't receive a call that evening so I wanted a month. I went in and my garment was in the same place she left it four weeks ago. She hadn't even started on it. She ask me if she could do it that evening. I told her no and took my garment elsewhere. I will never use her service again. read more

I agree with other reviews. Kim is very friendly and nice but she never has garments altered when she says she will. The last time I used her, I had to come back to her store 3 times before she had my items altered and ready to take home. For this alone, I will no longer take my business to her. read more

I can only speak to my experience. I had several of my husband's dress slacks taken in. She did a very good job, couldn't tell they had been altered in any way. Have used her several times and the work was always very good. read more

I have used Kim for years and have found her to be very accommodating. My pants are expensive and I only trust her to size them. Recently she was sick and did fall behind schedule but she called and told me. When I came in on the day she told me they would be done she discounted the invoice by 25% to make up for the late service. read more
