I find that all alteration companies are owner operated, making it difficult to: 1. Get a gauge on what level of skill to expect 2. Resolve dissatisfaction 3. Count on consistent pricing I've been to a bagillion alteration and cleaners in Independence and Raytown. Stitch 'n Post is no exception to any of the common concerns that cause me to still be looking for the right place after 3 years. I stopped going here after determining that even though I like a long break, they don't and they win, each and every time. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH THE WORK on shirts, coats, skirts, dresses. However, 1. They take WAY TOO LONG, weeks. for a basic hem on 2 pairs of pants have, more than twice, taken the long side of 2 weeks. 2. They are SO RUDE!! 3. EVERY SINGLE TIME they act like they can't find your items, causing massive panic, I feel like it's intentional on the 3rd visit. 4. Hours are inconvenient to those who have jobs. 5. They have dogs in the shop, but don't charge extra for the guaranteed embellishment to your garments with dog hair. 6. It's a DUMP. 7. Have rude signs through out the entrance and store, adding to the point that they are the most important person in the relationship, not the paying customer. 8. This is by far the worst altering experience I've ever had even though I've been here multiple times before and thought they were the best in the KC area. I took my new dress shirt in to have the sleeves shortened, but when I picked it up the arms were too short. So short that they were taut against my elbow while my arms were to my sides. They took the shirt back to lengthen it slightly as they had left some extra inside and I came back another week later. I tried the shirt on and it was a little better with the additional 0.5 in., but the seems at the cuff were fraying apart with the little fabric holding the seems together. I decided that this would have to do. I thought it must have been this one time since I've taken two pairs of pants a month earlier to get hemmed with no problem. Hoping to have a better experience a month later, I took in another shirt to have the arms shortened. Same issue occurred even though we were certain to make the sleeves longer than usual. Once again I found myself requesting the shirt to be lengthened as much as they could. I got the shirt back and the stitching was a little more secure, but something seemed wrong. Turns out the buttons on the sleeve plackets were moved when they shortened the sleeves resulting in the button hole and button not aligning (1.5 in. off). Not only that, the buttons on the cuffs were sewed back on with only three rounds and through only two of the four holes on one sleeve. $50 per shirt and an additional $30 for the alterations to end up with two shirts that I am not completely happy with. On an additional note: I thoroughly enjoy dogs, but I do not like picking up my clothes with a whole bunch of dog hair on it. This business needs a thorough cleaning. read more

I brought in an Army BDU shirt to have some patches put on- I describe there "where" & the "how", but she reassured me that "we do these things often" & "we know". Two weeks later, I come in to pick it up & the measurements are incorrect (not to the standard). So I point this out & they take the shirt back to quickly fix it. When they brought it back the second time, the "Expert Infantryman Badge" was upside-down! I was furious & laughing (inside) at the same time. Third time was a "charm"? I won't go back there, unless the work is free & I'm not in a time crunch. read more

This is one of the only places left that do clothes alterations. The people who work here recognize my face and are always very friendly and go out of their way to get my work done under my deadline. Sometimes they are out a couple weeks, but if i really need it, i pay the rush fee and get it when i need it. I can't believe i read a review that says workers here are rude? That is the most ridiculous thing, they go above and beyond each and every visit. Sure, the place is old and needs a good updating, but my clothes always come back to me! Oh, they do have a small dog, 1 small dog who is there once in a while, and i have NEVER found extra hair on my items. Great people, great work, run down store that needs updating. 5 stars in my book. read more

I have used this business several times and have been pleased each and every time. I have had pants hemmed, holes patched and most recently had 10 patches sewn to a coat. I have always found the pricing to be quite resasonable. The only thing is they are so busy that their turn around time is two weeks, you can pay more for faster service. My needs did not require faster service since it is not cold enough here for a coat right now. I have plans to use this service quite often in the future. read more

I have used the Stitching Post for years to alter all my daughter's formal dresses, as well as to do general alterations on my pants and dresses. They are always prompt and detail-oriented. I have never had any problems at all with them and, as a matter of fact have two dresses to drop by there tomorrow. so was surprised by Brent's review. When I return tomorrow, I will see if something there has changed. For now, I am a fan! read more

This is THE WORST place I've ever had alterations done and I've gone to a multitude of places. The first time I took a dress there to be shortened and to have the front of the dress sewn higher in the cleavage area. When I went back to pick up the dress and tried it on the shoulder's bunched up at the top on both sides. They told me they would fix the shoulders. I went to get the dress again and now it was too short. They did not offer my money back or to fix it. You would have thought I had learned my lesson. I took three dresses to be hemmed. I went pick them up all the stitching on the hems was crooked and puckered. It looked like a child had done it. I was very upset. As I went in the dressing room to change back into my clothes I saw the two women who work there making faces and complaining about me. Really? THEY are complaining about ME? I went to pick up the dresses a second time. I could tell they had tried to fix the stitching but it was still crooked and did not look professional. This time they told me they did not have a machine that could match the stitching that had been done originally on the dress. Really? Then why did you lie to get my business. Brent in the other review is correct. The place is FILTHY. One time the dressing rooms were full. I had to use their "kitchen" area. It was covered with dirt, animal hair and dirty dishes.
