Kilwins (specifically owner Jason) turned my frown upside down. About a year ago (meant to post this sooner!!) stopped by here on a very busy Saturday night (after the boat parade). We walked up and tried to find line, asked a couple people, and were basically told there were two lines. So I got in the shortest one, of course! Right before I got to the counter to order the employee says to me "You are not in line. They are not in line," as if trying to call us out and shame us like we cut in line. We definitely didn't--and definitely didn't do it intentionally if we did. After that, I said "no thanks, we don't want anything. I don't appreciate being treated that way." I was sad to not get ice cream and even sadder to be treated so poorly. Owner Jason apparently overheard and came and talked to us as we left. I explained the situation and he agreed the line was confusing. He offered me and my friend ice cream cones on the house and I was not only incredibly grateful to be validated about the line, but also grateful to see how much this owner cares about his customer's experiences. This place smells so good and there's a variety of goodies from ice cream to popcorn to fudge and more. Sampled a variety of ice cream and settled on the cookie dough. The ice cream and even the sorbet is very creamy. The in store made waffle cones are a must. One star is missing because I had my mind set on cookies and cream, but they were out! Also, I asked to get two flavors in my cup, but was told they could only scoop one flavor per cup. Most places let you do 2 flavors in one cup. There was a line but it lives quickly! The staff is super friendly & efficient. There's no room inside to stay & eat but there are plenty of clean tables outside the common area. We enjoyed our ice cream outside. The flavors were on point & creamy. The only downfall is that the garbage cans were overflowing and a little more care could be taken to the inside of the store to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Stopped by for some dessert on a cold Friday evening. My partner and I split a large, which is more worth it than getting two smalls. There was a line but it moved quickly. But because there's a line, it's a bit harder to ask the staff for samples. There is only outdoor seating I believe, so we were freezing as we ate our delicious ice cream. Unfortunately, I was let down as it reminded me of something I could get at the grocery store. I have nothing against a store-bought ice cream, but I do have higher expectations when it comes to specialty shops like these. The taste of the coffee wasn't as prominent as what I've had elsewhere; instead, it was more milky in flavor and therefore underwhelming. However, I did appreciate the creaminess and thick chunks of chocolate that were spread evenly throughout. Perhaps I should have sampled a few different options before deciding, but the Cappuccino Chip spoke to me in the moment, so I just went with my intuition! One other person in my group selected the Pistachio and said it was fine, but the pistachios themselves were soft and the ice cream was the artificial green color. Very average ice cream shop. The flavors are not creative nor taste extraordinary... My kids had mint chip, and a rainbow flavor. My husband had the caramel pecan which was overly sweet. This is one of the few ice cream/treat shops located on the Wharf. There is limited metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. There are also commercial lots and garages available. The shop offers fudge chocolates, candle apples, and of course.....ice cream, which you can get in many forms including hand scooped, pints, cakes, sundaes, and shakes. It is relatively easy to find, but it is tucked behind Gordon's Ramsey's Fish and Chips, near Hell's Kitchen. The staff there was friendly enough, but I will admit that my interaction with them was limited. If you are not sure what flavor you would like, they do offer free samples and will help you to decide. The shop is very clean and tidy. Even though there was a long line when I entered, it moved relatively quickly. I got two scoops of the toasted coconut. It was pretty good. They do not have any place inside of their shop to eat. There are some tables and chairs set up outside the front of shop though that you can eat at. There is also a small outdoor seating area near the shop that you can eat your treat at as well. That is where I sat. This spot has a monopoly on the tasty treats on the wharf. I recommend getting one (or even two) of their treats and just sitting along the River while you enjoy it. read more

Dangerous! So many sweet treats to choose from. Candied apples, fudge, chocolate, candies, ice cream, etc. I was hooked when I tried the apple pie caramel candied apple. I bought the pecan caramel apple. It was 7/10. It was a little dry. I don't feel the toppings added much to the apple or any sweetness. The sampled apple was much better. I have Celiac disease and have to be mindful of cross-contamination. Larraine not only opened a brand new container of the ice cream flavor of my choosing, she also went above and beyond to ensure all equipment was appropriately cleaned. She didn't make me feel as if I was a bother to her or her team, which means the world to someone with allergies. Kilwins just opened up at the Wharf and DC residents are no longer safe. The shop is like a toy store for people who love sweets. I bought some ice cream, which was amazing. I also bought some fudge which tasted great - you can see them making the fudge in the back of the store.
