It's such a cute and inviting store, you'll love to browse, even if you don't buy anything, but I bet you can't leave without buying something! I've had Kilwins before and believe the ice cream is good, so I was excited to see it near our AirBnB. However, I don't know if this is always the case or I just noticed it here but... Holy rip off! $40+ for four ice cream cones? Go across the street for half price. They conveniently don't list their prices anywhere. We were full and ordered kids scoops across the entire family, yet what I received resembled a small basketball of ice cream. You're probably thinking, this guy.. complaining about "too much" ice cream.. was his lobster too buttery, his steak too tender? But let me explain. Sometimes you don't want a pint of ice cream delicately sitting on a cone. Sometimes you just want a little bit, and for that to be their smallest option, it just doesn't make sense. Especially for my already wired kids. The second was the aforementioned sticker shock. We went to the place across the street the next night and our normal sized, delicious cones were about $20, half the price. So yeah, it's not so much a bad review because of quality or anything, just a bit of a misleading and poor experience. Others in the store were sharing similar concerns, so I wonder if this place has pushed it as far as they can and need to scale back. Stopped in for ice cream (great, as always) but also grabbed their 16-pack of Dubai-style sea salt chocolates. The shelf sticker said $9.95 -- at checkout I was told it was actually $39.95. Bought them anyway, figuring a Kilwins product would back up that price. Big letdown. Barely any chocolate flavor, almost no sea salt, and the crispy filling was just okay. It doesn't stand up to Kilwins' other products, and it doesn't stand up to other Dubai-style chocolate I've tried -- and I've tried a lot. My first time in a Kilwin's, was here in Saugatuck. There were 2 locations within a block of each other, this one was the one on the corner. When you walk into this historic building, it's a bit like walking back into the past. They have chocolates counter, there is a large area with marble tabletop where you can see them making fudge. There is also the person making ice cream cones and bowls, which smells delicious! We got into the line for ice cream, they allow you to sample ice cream. We got 2 cones with 1 scoop and a 2 flavors in a waffle bowl. It was around $30, a bit pricey to me. The ice cream was good, but nothing overly special. We found the way they ring you up, strange. I stood near the register with my ice cream and I was ignored by 4 people standing near the register. Finally, I walked over near the chocolate counter to pay and I was told that the person who served us would ring me up. I had to wait for her to finish scooping ice cream to come and ring me up. Despite having a Kilwins in Ann Arbor that we could go to anytime there's just something so special about hitting this location because usually it means we're ON VACATION, BABY! So being on vacation we usually eat a lot of ice cream. Like, a lot. And most of it is from this Kilwins. Every flavor we've tried has been great we definitely have our usuals. My husband's go to is the toasted coconut in a waffle cone and I usually go for either their s'mores or superman in a waffle cone (their waffle cones are made in house so I highly recommend getting one in lieu of a cake or sugar cone). In peak summer time the lines can be slightly daunting but don't worry, they move very quickly. This particular location has an old ice cream parlor vibe, which I find delightful. By the windows you can find big copper kettles and other candy making equipment so you can watch them make sweets like their fudge and caramel corn. Not only is this entertaining but it also means the place smells heavenly! I dare you not to walk by and stop in for a treat. It's practically impossible! read more

This is the small kilwins in between pumpernickel and cider and birch. I was in line for my ice cream, when it was my turn the server told me I had cut the line. I assured her I did not because I had a stroller and followed the loop around to right in front of the cases. She then told me again quite loudly and rudely that i had cut the line and refused to serve me. Another lady in line told the worker that it was rude how she treated us but she dud nit care. So we left. We walked to the Kilwins a block over and I found a manager and told her what happened. The manager immediately left that store and went to the other. I love almost everything about Kilwins. Walking by the windows and even being inside to see them making all sorts of candies is so fun! I wish you could choose to mix your flavors. However, 1 scoop is just 1 flavor, 2 scoops is either all 1 flavor or 2 flavors, not smaller scoops of multiple flavors. I do think it's a bit expensive for the candy but they're delicious so I pay the price. Sometimes the service isn't the best. I feel rushed at time because they're so busy. read more

Kilwins is always good. Because they are so prevalent in Michigan, I never usually go to one, except when I'm on vacation, and we found ourselves in Saugatuck this weekend wanting fudge, so we stopped by. There are two Kilwins in Saugatuck and they are directly across the street from one another ... not sure what the difference is except I think one probably sells ice cream or something more than the other one. We stopped at the one that had ice cream. Even though we were only wanting fudge, I believe it was one long line for both counters (fudge + ice cream), so we got in that line. Their fudge is expensive ... we got two slices (about 6/10 of a pound each), one of the large Reese's cups, and two Buckeyes, and the total was about $35, which I thought was exorbitant, especially compared to Frankenmuth's fudge places, which I've also been to recently. Ironically, we were in Holland the next day and their Kilwins had a buy 2 get 1 slice free promo going, for their fudge - not sure if it was just that location, or all the Kilwins locations that were doing that. That being said, the fudge was delicious, especially the chocolate peanut butter one we chose. So I'd return to Kilwins again, but maybe only get one slice of fudge next time, for about $10-15 or so. read more

Service was terrible. They rushed us through like we were at a McDs drive thru. We stopped in at the recommendation of friends who love their s'mores ice cream. We've never been and we were a group of 6. The store was not busy as it was around 10pm. We'd been at the counter for only a couple of minutes when a few other customers came in. The ice cream offering is large and there was one menu we were trying to pass around. We were immediately asked to move forward so they could serve other customers which took us out of viewing the freezer case and we were asked to give our orders at the register. Multiples in the party hadn't even looked at the menu yet. We were given about three minutes for the 6 of us to read, sample and make our decisions so other customers could have as long as they needed bc no one was behind them. Won't go back. There are lots of other ice cream shops in Saugatuck, one just across the street actually. Ice cream that we ordered was average. read more

Kilwins is an institution around here! We have been buying their creamy, addictive fudge for years. Lots of delicious chocolate options. My one nit is that they seem to sell out / not make non chocolate options (maple, penuche) here. My kiddos aren't big on chocolate, so sometime we leave empty handed. This is only an issue with the locations in the southern part of the state. Northern Michigan locations always have better selection. Not sure why. The ice cream is rich and smooth and simply yummy! We ordered a scoop of Toasted coconut on a waffle cone, and a milkshake mix. The quality of the ice-cream was fantastic, but I didnt make a great choice with my milkshake mix. I wouldnt suggest getting the Toasted Coconut flavor mixed with another. It wouldve been delicious by itself. I'd like to take the next few sentences to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that these guys put into ensuring great costumer experience and consistent food quality. Carlin was helping us today and he did a fantastic job creating our order and serving it. I would suggest adding the Tipping option to Credit purchasers. I Didn't have cash on me and I wish they had the option to tip through the credit card. Came here during the Holland Tulip Festival and I'm so glad I did. The first that will capture your attention before you come here is the smell. The delicious smell will have you basically drooling before you realized where it's coming from. Going inside, you will see the staff preparing all of the treats by hand. Even the ice cream cones are hand made in this store! There's a large variety of chocolates, fudges, ice cream, and treats. I settled for an ice cream sundae with whipped cream and cherry. Don't remember the flavor I got since they all have quirky names but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. Prices are pretty low for such a happening place in a tourist area. I had been in the historic district of Saugatuck before and wanted to come back again. I was with some friends that had never here before and I made it a point of bringing them here. This town is so cool, small town vibe, so relaxing. After a big meal we wanted something sweet, and needed to buy souvenirs so we hit the DT Saugatuck. Lucky we, we found parking right in front of this place. As I got out of the car I looked and thought that it must be a sign of God, we found parking right in front of an ice cream shop. We walked in and saw 3 lines (chocolates, beverages and ice cream) I immediately walked, as if God guided my steps, to the ice cream line. I tried 3 flavor and all were amazing. I had the salted caramel, two berry pie and the cappuccino chocolate pie. All 3 were great but my favorite was the berry one. Once we left the ice cream shop we started walking around, enjoying the perfect day, relaxed vibe and nice shops around. Suddenly I saw another ice cream shop, and another and many more. Then I realized that God did not want me to try this ice cream by giving us a parking right in front of the shop. We just were in a place with many ice cream shops. But wait, what if he really wanted us to try this one and none of the other being that there are so many??? God! please send me a sign! Going back to the ice cream shop.
