Stopped in for a late night ice cream cone, and it did not disappoint. So tasty and fresh that you can smell it as you walk down the street. I am sure everything else is great, but we stayed with the tasty ice cream. They could have gotten a higher score of the staff was more engaged and had fun... maybe it was late, but they definitely were doing a "job." We went there in July - full blown tourist season. I understand you pay a lot at tourist spots like Saugatuck. But the charges on top of charges is what I have problem with. The 'Waffle Cone' was charged at $7.49. But for the same come additional $2.99 were charged for 'Pecan Waffle Cone'. A topping of caramel was listed for $.99, but was charged $1.79. And worst of all a there was a charge of $1.98 for Tip, without even asking us. read more

Went in on an off-season night and we were the only customers in the store. The ice cream was fine (not as great as Charlie's which was closed). The portion was decent. The issue was with my service dog. The staff insisted that I needed papers or an ID badge. I explained that ADA does not require papers or an ID badge. Even though my service dog has a 'service dog' patch (which is not required), I was still given a hard time. It was embarrassing to go through in front of the rest of the group. The prices are ridiculous!! We had three one dip kids cones and one one dip adult cone, and it was $15! I don't know what makes this place so special. We only bought fairly standard flavors of ice cream too. I scoped out the prices on other items, and an iced latte is $7.95! A tiny one bite chocolate with sprinkles on top is $1.50! I don't get it. I'm surprised that nobody else commented on the exorbitant prices. Go to Captain Sundaes in Holland! Original flavors and creations and is about 2/3 to 3/4 the price of Kilwins. read more

Incredible fudge. Every time I come to Michigan, I know I have to get Kilwins. If you like butter pecan ice cream, Kilwins has the greatest butter pecan you will ever taste. The mint chip and classic vanilla are some of my other favorites as well. The best part about the place is that when you walk in you can watch the workers make all the different types of fudge and popcorn, you can smell it right when you walk in. Excellent customer service from the manager!!! He was so kind to both me and my friend. He allowed us to take our time in deciding what we wanted without seeming annoyed, or rushing us. At one point I stepped out of line to use the restroom and he gave me a small discount because I had to wait in line again. This was a gesture I was not expecting because it was my choice to leave the line, but nonetheless this attentiveness was much appreciated and really made my Kilwin's experience great. read more

The smallest portion of ice cream for the most money that I've ever seen. Thing is, I've never seen staff WEIGH a single scoop cone prior to handing it to a customer. Kilwin's does. Already I'm paying $6+ and scoopers need to exercise such extreme caution? The waffle cone is good but the weigh-in is just annoying. I heard other customers walking down the street making the same weird observation. Won't go back. Note: A nearby "Charlie's" ice cream in Saugatuck had a line out the door. I went by the original shop and thought the prices were a little high. So I kept walking and found out that they are the only game in this small town. They opened up a second location just in case someone was thinking of the same thing? The quality of the product is top notch and so are the prices. You really can't leave without spending $20 bucks. Ice cream and chocolate may be good but the attitude for the price you are paying stinks. I ordered a kids ice cream in a cup ($3.98) for one small scoop after which my wife asked for a cone for my son to out on top of it. Well the policy is you tell the cup or cone but not both. Wow! For a $4 single scoop of ice cream you would think they could afford to give you a cone with a paper cup. And they weren't even nice about it. Did I mention they weighed the single scoop. They sparingly scoop the ice cream and weight it to make sure they give you no more than they need to. Good luck with that business model. You'll need it. read more

Went here for ice cream, I ordered the georgia peach, since I always get peach when I can find it. The waffle cone was fresh and the ice-cream was very good. I wanted to take home some carmel corn, but for $14 for a bag, I couldn't do it. Everything smelled and looked amazing, but the prices are high. read more
