I really wanted to go in here and taste fantastic cookies, but it was just not the case. The store is actually in a great location, but it almost looks like it's closed all the time. I'm not sure if this is due to some window tint or an "Open" sign that's barely visible, but it was hard to even tell until I open the door. The girl at the counter was extremely nice, but for being strictly a pastry/cookie shop, I thought the cookies would have much more of a "punch," or some type of unique or noticeable flavor. Cute shops in downtown South Haven! They have lots of cookies to choose from. I had the chocolate coconut, which was a chocolate chip cookie with toasted coconut in top. It had big chocolate chunks. I also had the double chocolate cookie, which was a chocolate cookie with big chocolate chunks. Both cookies were good! They were crunchy along the edges and gooey in the center. Yum! Walked by and could not resist stopping in. The smells were incredible. I had a chocolate chip cherry cookie. It was fresh, moist and absolutely delicious. They had many different cookie options and bakery items. Their cinnamon rolls looked so good, but I held back and had only one cookie. They make all of their items from scratch and weigh each cookie before baking to ensure they are the same size and bake to perfection. Definitely worth a visit. read more

The best cookies ever! We were sent a gift box for the holidays. It was shipped directly from the bakery. The package of cookies were arranged and presented so beautifully with gift wrap, thoughtfulness and extra attention to little details. There were two boxes sent inside the package, one box had chocolate chunk cookies and double chocolate chunk and the other box was biscottis. I live like an hour and a half away and after having these, I would drive to this place for more, it's truly a delight to the senses! What a great place! We walked in with our 10 month old daughter and the kind ladies suggested if our baby was teething the biscotti was a must try. They generously offered to double bake the biscotti overnight and we could come back the next day to purchase. Baby girl loved them! The size was perfect for her to hold and nibble on. My husband and I may have snuck a bite or two and they were delicious. We had the almond and there was just a hint of sweet. Also, the sugar cookies are yummy. Cookies on call made the most amazing cake bombs and cake for my wedding. there usually tends to be a lot of waste with wedding cake. Frans work is not that cake. we had 200 guests and we had not one cake bomb left and our guests decided to cut into the small cake for my husband and i. my mom being one of them. my mom said for our one year she's going to have Fran make another cake for us and she's going to order herself one as well. she said it was by far the best cake she's ever had. Not just the best cookies in West Michigan, they also rank among the best in the Midwest. My fave is what I personally call the "Peanut Butter Explosion"; it's like a molten cake that oozes with chocolate and PB when you bite into them. I might argue with the "pricey" term used to describe these cookies. Maybe it's subjective, but when compared to other bakeries in West Michigan, the cost of their products are inexpensive, really. When one considers the fresh ingredients and delicate hand used to create them, it's quite the bargain. To limit the discussion to just cookies is rather a moot point: their line of breads, cakes, etc., are something to behold. All excellent and delicious. Got them again in the morning a couple days later, thinking they'd be more fresh, and they were even more stale, like they kept leftover cookies from the night before and sold them the next morning. I took a trip to visit my boyfriend's family for Thanksgiving week. During this trip to Michigan I got the pleasure of meeting Franny and Abby in their South Haven store. They were both an absolute joy and completely made my trip. I couldn't believe how much Franny and I had in common regarding our Italian heritage, and background of all the wonderful, and diverse baking and cooking we did with our grandmothers'. Also to find a store manager like Abby, who takes such pride, that we thought she was the owner for the first 15 minutes of our visit. Before I get started, please let me explain that my family owned an Italian bakery in the Boston area for 54 years. So I grew up with the same disciplines that Franny did, which are: superior quality ingredients, attention to detail, and most important: lots of care and treating your customer like they're family. Franny shared with me her Cucidati cookies (the Italian Fig Cookie) and in just one bite I was transferred back to my childhood, where my Nonnie used to labor for hours on these magical gems. I've read through these Yelp reviews before posting my own to see if others had the same delightful experience I did. I'm thrilled to find that just about everyone has. But for those few who posted negative reviews, let me help you understand something. Homemade; real homemade, means the freshest ingredients with no preservatives added. Store bought cookies last for months due to all the preservatives. I took back to Boston a dozen of Franny's cookies, from her oatmeal, to her peanut butter, to the hazelnut, etc., and that was on Thanksgiving evening when we left. It's now November 29th and we're still enjoying them. They did not go stale and probably because I knew to keep them in an airtight container. These cookies are perfection: a little crisp outside and when you bite into them, perfectly soft and rich in the centers, the way homemade cookies are meant to be baked. We also got to enjoy their baguette, again baked to perfection. Franny and Abby are not the type of business owners that would sell their customers old products (seriously, have you met them!). Anyone who takes the time to get to know these lovely ladies sees this first hand. These are class A women who want nothing but the very best for their customers. They have a loyal following because you leave their store feeling like extended family and because they sell a superior product. So my dozen mixed cookies, along with biscotti, and of course her famous, Cucidati are still being enjoyed. My elderly mother who ran our family bakery for 50 years tried Franny's cookies on Sunday the 27th and the Cucidati brought tears to her eyes. She said she couldn't remember the last time she had one that reminded her of her mother-in-law's recipe (our Nonnie). So to Franny and Abby, thank you for a fantastic experience at your store! Thank you for your exceptional customer service. I'll be placing my holiday order this week. AND - I look forward to continued business with you and will make it a point to come see you both during all my trips to Michigan. read more

We just rec'd cookies and cake bombs for an 85th birthday gift -- here in California. When we opened the box, the house smelled like a bakery. We sampled a couple of these amazing cookies and WOW, they tasted like they just came out of the oven, soft and yummy! I don't know what others are talking about being stale if you don't eat them right away. Not the case. These cookies were packaged and presented beautifully, with tender loving care. The cake bombs are delish! I know quality and these cookies are pure quality. Another thing I love about these cookies is that they are not too sweet! I just LOVE that because most bakery cookies taste like crunchy sugar, and these are absolutely perfect! Not too sweet but very rich so you can't eat too many!! I'd say these are the best cookies I've ever had from a mail order bakery (or any bakery) and I've ordered baked goods from many online companies including H&D, and none of them come close. In fact, most of the products from other online bakeries are so commercial tasting that I'd do better buying from Costco. Oh, and if they seem pricey to you, just remember: you get what you pay for. read more
