With the amazing ice cream flavors, fudge and chocolates here, I don't know why anyone goes to the Cold Stone Creamery or Ben & Jerry's just doors down from this cool, sugary mecca. My favorite ice cream brands have been long established, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try another take on birthday cake ice cream as it's one of my favorites. I don't see limited edition anywhere on the packaging, but I believe this is a new flavor to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary. Their celebratory frozen dessert utilizes a white cake batter flavored ice cream base with pound cake pieces, rainbow sprinkles, and an abundant blue frosting swirl. The cake flavor of the ice cream was spot on, but what takes things up a notch is the blue frosting. It's super sweet, bountiful, pretty thick in some areas, and it's easy on the eyes. While the vibrant frosting swirl provides most of the color, the rainbow sprinkles supply a pleasant crunch that contrasts nicely with the smooth ice cream. Besides the cake flavor, frosting swirls, and rainbow sprinkles, every top tier birthday cake ice cream needs one more ingredient, actual cake pieces. Initially I was concerned the pieces were not numerous enough, but the more of the container I ate, the more the pieces balanced out. Additionally, the pieces are fair sized hunks and not tiny bits. The chunks have a nice texture and pleasant cake flavor. Admittedly, this is only the third flavor I've tried from Hudsonville, but it takes the cake. My kinds got whatever the brightest available flavor was, and I got a graham cracker ice cream with little bits of chocolate honeycomb in it. It was a milder flavor as expected, but so good I almost got it twice. The second time in I got a "Blueberry Waffle Cone" flavor that was vanilla ice cream, blueberry swirl, and small chocolate covered ice cream cone pieces. Phenomenal. Hard to pick between the two, and both better than what we had across the street. It gets busy in here, and there can be a little pressure of the line pushing as we sample, but hold your ground and try a few because they have a lot of fun flavors to explore. Lovely place. PS they charge a smaller fee for CCs but you can pay debit or cash to dodge it. Looking forward to returning again sometime down the road.

Large MI Pothole Malt -- Taste: very good. Size: larger than others. Price: $7.99 (and they don't charge extra for the malt powder like other places!) Single scoop MI Pothole in a cup -- Taste: good, I have had other MI pothole flavor at other places that I do like better but this version is tasty. Size: average. Price: $5.50 OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid little over $31 for our family of four. Service was fine nothing to write home about. It's not a big place so it may be a wait if they are busy. Atmosphere is cute and the outside area is very nice (beware of the geese poop and flying bugs!). WOULD I RETURN? Yes if we are in the area.
