I first tried Kilwin's in St. Joseph, MI, thinking how great it would be to get that awesome cake batter ice cream the next day, but had to leave for Holland, MI. To my surprise and delight, there is a Kilwin's in Holland. With the amazing ice cream flavors, fudge and chocolates here, I don't know why anyone goes to the Cold Stone Creamery or Ben & Jerry's just doors down from this cool, sugary mecca. Ice Cream way to sweet and creamy almost taste fake. Service was great but for the ridiculous prices they charge, they should roll out a red carpet and walk you to your car! Very convenient location on a corner, the employees provided courteous service and there were a lot of places to sit and eat. The prices were higher than some of the competition, but the unique flavors of the ice cream are not available at most places. read more

The delightful aroma of confections hits as soon as we all entered this charming sweet shop. Staff were helpful & friendly, such a plethora of flavors to chose from! We bought chocolate fudge, chocolate covered pretzels, and caramel coated apples. The caramel was nice, apple generously coated, practically a meal in itself. Would like to try a different flavor next time, the salted chocolate caramel apple looked gorgeous, so many choices! Same with the fudge, there is something for everyone. It was a Monday evening and this place was pretty packed, so we had to see what the type was all about. They serve a variety of desserts, we ordered a couple scoops of cookies and cream ice cream. Such good service! I'm not from the Midwest, but these folks brought "Midwest Nice" to a whole new level! We opted for ice cream, which was delicious and generous. The chocolate assortment looks wildly good, and the fudge looks incredible. They went out of their way to sample us some fudge, despite us saying we didn't think we could purchase any that visit. Got checked on numerous times, staff started conversations, asked us about our day, talked about their products and the store, etc. Such nice people, and the treats here are delicious as well. We passed this store with no intentions of buying anything, but their displays were so enticing one cannot help himself/ herself me included to go in and check the store. Oh my, what a mistake. There's so many options. The store had everything you can ask for that has sugar, milk and chocolate- fudge, ice cream, coffee, sherbet/ sorbet, chocolate samplers, etc. I end up buying more than I need, but everything was so go, even the waffle cones were so fresh and crunchy. We tried the turtle ice cream and it was really good, caramel was blended well so it wasn't too sweet. They have a lot of ice cream flavors to pick from, I was just bummed they were not serving their apple pie flavor that was still on their website menu. We also got a taffy Apple which they offered to cut for us, which was much appreciated as they're so hard to eat on the stick. read more

Oh, Kilwins, I wish I could love you. Your ice cream flavors are imaginative. They taste of real sugar without tasting overly sugary. If only your prices were within my reach. But for the price of a single scoop, I could get a pint of Ben and Jerry's. For the price of a double scoop - two pints. Wait, say what? I've never seen a place that charges multiple dollars, plural, per added scoop. Most of the cost is in the service. You're giving me about 50 cents worth of ingredients on your average-sized scoop, so you should not be charging a whole lot more than that for the quantum of service it requires. I've never had to pay more than $5 for two scoops before. This is 5 star quality, but I'm not coming back here or any other Kilwins. I'm not royalty, and I know I can find similar quality for more reasonable prices. (Yes, they are a chocolate place. Some of their chocolates are over $20/lb. Wait, say what? The. Most. Expensive. They have so many flavors of icecream and it is such a task to decide which one to go for... their icecream is rich, thick and creamy and the ones I would recommend are Holland Mud, Toasted Coconut and Chocolate Cashew. Being a native Michigander always take the opportunity to stop at a Kilwins if I can. They just have really good ice cream, and of course chocolates and other sweets. Granted, they are fairly expensive but the quality is there. Whether you're looking for a delicious popcorn that is gourmet and drizzled with chocolate or caramel, or you just want some fudge, ice cream, a truffle, or something else amazing you should definitely stop in. This particular location is very nice in comparison to a few others I've been too. There is one that I have frequented in the Petoskey area that of course is delicious, but this one in Holland is much bigger than and much nicer. I stopped in during the offseason and maybe that was the problem. We typically frequent the Saugatuck location in the summer time and have always been pleased. The gentleman working was standoffish and didn't seem thrilled to cut a pound of fudge for me.
