Cute little candy shop right downtown in Holland. Definitely something for everyone, including imported chocolates and treats, plenty of jelly/ gummy candy, and toasted nuts. The staff was very friendly and offered help several times. The shop is tiny, and was crowded during the tulip festival and I'd like to come back during a non-peak time so I could browse more. Such a fun candy store right in the heart of Holland. They had every kind of candy including an amazing chocolate counter. I went with a bag of pick your own candy. You just let the staff know what kind of candy and how much you want and they bag it for you. There were so many choices. I love sour gummy candy so I tried a few flavors. I also had to get my favorite gummy pigs, I've never been able to find these in the US (only in Germany). All of the candy seemed pretty fresh and it was delicious. You just need to stop in this store with every visit to Holland. The kids loved getting the super sour candies. This is such a classic place. I love the variety. Plus, I also like that you cannot just help yourself to the candies and put your hands in the bins. You have the employees help you get the candies. I know that sounds like I am being stuffy, but seriously, I do not like strange hands in my food. So, thank you Peanut Store for putting that in place. I love how tiny and packed the store is. I love supporting small businesses and champion them whenever I can -- but I also expect a basic level of respect and customer service. Unfortunately, the Holland Peanut Store failed on both counts. When I visited, the place was packed (which is surprising given the way customers are treated). The owner -- or at least an older man in a green shirt carrying himself with an inflated sense of self-importance -- actually shoved someone out of his way. That alone spoke volumes. Worse, one of the workers was openly disrespectful to my grandmother, who was celebrating her 82nd birthday. She didn't understand the credit card minimum, and instead of explaining it politely, he dismissively asked her if she "even had any cash." All she wanted was some jelly beans for her birthday -- hardly a situation that calls for rudeness. The store atmosphere didn't help. Kids were running around misbehaving, and the high school-aged staff seemed to match the energy of the "green-shirted troll" in both tone and attitude. Small businesses thrive on community goodwill. This one seems to think customers are disposable. If you value being treated with even a shred of courtesy, I can't urge you strongly enough: steer clear of this place. read more

I usually go by the adage "if you've got nothing good to say...". In fact, as far as I can remember, my reviews/feedback (Google, Yelp, Amazon, etc.) are all positive. People usually are quick to complain, but aren't as eager to compliment. Many years ago we got a $5 gift certificate for The Holland Peanut Store. Sat in a drawer for years, found it and brought it in several years ago and was told it was invalid--too old. Told myself I'd never go back, and didn't for years. Earlier this year, I did go there with my wife and mentioned to the older gentleman up front(assuming he might be management/owner) that I had an old gift card that wasn't honored on our previous visit--he said "...bring it in, no problem." Today I did. Cashiers refused to honor it and said they could run it by the owner. He looked at it, laughed and said "...wow, this is really old, I'm going to show this to the family! But, we can't accept gift certificates older than 2 years..." Doesn't say anything like it on the gift certificate. So, The Holland Peanut Store is happy to get money for nothing. No problem. Let me tell you this is one special place. It was my first time in the store, and I was flabbergasted. They make all of the roasted nuts in the house, and I was advised by a local to get the peanut paddle in the back with nuts. It's a vanilla ice cream bar dipped in chocolate with the salty chopped peanuts on the outside. Even though it was a cool day and Holland, this ice cream bar totally hit the spot. The inside of the facility is covered with college flags and banners, which patrons can bring if their school is not represented. You can get any type of candy you want in the store but I wouldn't worry with that. Head straight to the back for the freezer and grab one of these peanut paddles, you will not be disappointed. read more

I have been here a few times when I have visited Holland but we stopped in here today to browse. My boyfriend ended up getting some Clark peanut butter cups, which you don't see everyday, and I got some ginger peanut candies. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because a lot of the candies are pricey, it just depends on what you get though. They also have fudge and other chocolates near the counter. Be aware that there's also a $5 minimum for credit card charges. I still recommend dropping in here though, they have a lot of unique candies and chocolates. read more

During the shut down, I called and had them make up Easter candy boxes for my 4 grandkids. They shipped it quickly and the boxes arrived at n plenty of time for Easter. We came here through the randomest encounter. While buying pretzels at the farmer's market, the owner who was a math teacher saw that we had young children introduced us to come Holland Peanut Store, sharing with us his "math secret." He would regualrly bring his children to this candy store which has an aisle of candy's at certain price. So he would give his children a dollar and have them make the most value out of it. Hence, the children quickily learnt the importance of math and finance; two birds in one stone, GENIUS! Not only did we get our children to learn math and financial wisdom at the Holland Peanut store, this place was nostalgic and had loads of beautiful colors and interesting tasty treats. read more

What a sweet find in the middle of downtown Holland! They have chocolates and candies lining the store for kids of all ages. Taffy, gummies, Jelly beans, chocolates, and yes... peanuts! We found several bars of chocolate from a variety of countires like Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. We found some of our favorite candies from our childhood! The staff are awesome and extremely helpful. They help you weigh items, pick out chocolates from the counter, and they answer any questions you have while there. Prices are reasonable, too. My sister was the one who recommended that I visit this place years ago. I have to confess that the summer I worked here, I looked, but never indulged. Well, that has changed! On our last visit I picked up a mixed bag. This time, I went back in order to bring home a birthday gift for friend and to get a couple pieces for myself. While I really wasn't crazy for their chocolate covered blueberries or chocolate covered cherries last time (they were Way too sweet for me), I absolutely loved their peanut butter peanut truffle! So I got one of those for myself and also decided to try the Keylime Truffle. It has an absolutely delicious dark chocolate exterior that I loved! I would definitely get that one again! To make up my girlfriend's birthday box, I asked what their most popular were. The girl behind the counter directed me towards the turtles and the chocolate covered caramels. So I did those along with an assortment of other truffles I thought she would particularly like (coffee truffle and the chipotle truffle). I felt like this was the perfect thing to bring home for my chocolate loving friend! This store provides friendly and efficient service! It's also every child's dream! Cute little candy store. I love little candy shops that sell fudge and other delicious goodies. It was pretty packed when we went. Everyone was packed like sardines and I was difficult to see where the line started. However, everyone was super nice and the people behind the counter were very observant because they knew who was waiting longer even when the line was a bit chaotic. As someone who likes old timey fun and candy this place was heaven to me. The Peanut Store had been recommended by some friends who live in the area so naturally I had to visit when I was in town last week. So many great childhood candy favorites--jaw breakers, Brach's hard candies, Mary Janes, jelly beans, Squirrel Nut Zippers, flavored Tootise Rolls, etc--all in huge tubs easy to access ("easy access": the ability to grab multiple fistfuls and shove them into your bag to be later weighed at the counter). And of course a wide variety of salt water taffy! They also carry a nice variety of novelty candies like pop rocks, big league chewing gum, and an array of stuff that looks like real things but are actually candy (see: candy cellphone). Also spotted a lot of Necco products that I thought only existed on old episodes of "Unwrapped" on the Food Network (see: Sky Bar). Chocoholics--fear not! They've got you covered too. A nice large glass case of chocolate covered treats awaits you should you choose to visit. I walked out with a white lunch bag full of candy for under 4 dollars and this included a candy bar (the aforementioned Sky Bar). There isn't room inside the shop to sit and enjoy your treats but there is a nice stoop outside for sitting and sugaring out. According to the folks at the shop the Peanut Store has been around for over a 100 years. I send hope into the universe so that they may be around 100 more! read more

This store is ok. Not what I was expecting but curious because as I walked by the name entails peanuts and I love those salty shelled nuts. As I walk in I'm greeted by an array of shelves and barrels packed Full of product that isn't peanuts. Candies, kid enticing toys and throwback sweets line and fill those containers. Along with the products being overwhelming there were a ton of people in the store. It's not a big building so maneuvering in the two isles that were formed from merchandise was a bit tricky. It's Loud in there as well. Even thought merchandise is crammed in there it's still clean. There were some interesting items that I saw but didn't buy them. On one Wall they have cases of displayed chocolate covered goodies that are sold, pricey, by the pound, yet again I didn't buy anything. I finally saw a stand in the middle of the store of peanuts. One measly container of salty goodness sold by he pound hat you scoop yourself into a brown bag. I did just that too. Taking my item up to the checkout was also tricky. There was a Lime but it went fast. Staff isn't the friendliest. By the looks of it the chaos of guests and merchandise is probably a bit overwhelming and it shows in their attitude. Fun lil throw back, touristy store but I wouldn't waste my time to go in again. One time is good for me, unless Of course I want Some Salty treats. read more

This family-run candy store has been a staple since my childhood. I still remember biking downtown to go here and Cobblestone hobby shop (baseball cards!). Almost every type of bulk or packaged candy or nuts you could possibly ever need, college flags on the walls, welcoming service, and a good selection of Dutch treats like babbelaars, licorice, peppermints, stroopwafels, and the like in addition to other imported and domestic candies. I come out to holland at least once a year, and naturally, I always spend a day or so downtown. One of few stores I've visited consistently every year is the Peanut Store. While the name insinuates the store sells peanuts (I'm not even sure how a business would operate selling only peanuts?), which they do sell a fair collection of, they mainly offer candy. A LOT of candy. The store is packed wall to wall with not only your run of the mill Hershey's Chocolate Bars and Snickers, but also old candy that's hard to find like Sugar Daddies and Old Fashioned Hard Candies. Not only that, but they have imported candies as well, from renowned treats like Pocky to weird stuff I've never heard of like Satellite Wafers. This place doesn't carry ALL imported candies, but they carry quite a good selection. The store sells a lot of saltwater taffy and assorted single candies you can bag up and buy by the pound along with whole bags and bars of candy you can buy in a more traditional manner. They've got multiple cases of gourmet-y treats, like chocolate truffles, chocolate covered peanuts and pretzels, dehydrated candied fruits, and tons more. Plus, they've got jars filled with quality chocolate and candy goodies unpackaged that can be combined into a bag to be bought by the oz. Finally, my favorite part: JELLY BEANS! The store offers rows of jars filled with tons of different jelly bean flavors, some more normal, and some quite odd. You can choose multiple flavors and make your own bag filled with an assortment of jelly beans. Otherwise, the atmosphere is lovely and the people are always kind. I did not approve the way one of the workers treated my friend. She has a medical condition which she has a severe asthma attack if she wears a mask. It's not The 1st time She was treated like that. This place was so cool! I really enjoyed all the old fashioned candies! If you live in Michigan or have lived in Michigan and have not been here then I pity you! This little gem in downtown New Holland is both a notstalgic trip down the memory lane of candy for those who are old enough to remember things like Necco wafers and a treat for those who are looking to try and enjoy some candy gems from the past and some hand made treats. Yes, they have "old school" candy, that in itself makes this place worth the visit in my opinion, but there's more awesome-ness that just nostalgic candy to tickle your taste buds. Aside from candy they carry an entire line of chocolate delicacies from truffles to chocolate covered potato chips that are made in-house. To experience the store, and to try the candy is worth the trip in. The only negative thing I have to say about the store, is that you will pay a pretty penny for the experience as it's a little on the pricy side, but then again you're not only paying for the candy, but you're paying for the experience as well. If you're planing on stopping in downtown New Holland, aside from New Holland Brewing, this is one other place I definitely recommend visiting while you're there. read more
