Bearded Dutchman Meats - Store front

Nice clean place with a great selection, helpful service, and good prices. They have all kinds of…read moremeat like brats, chicken, beef, and fish. They also have some buns and various condiments. All of the meat is shrink-wrapped and a lot of it is frozen. I bought some twice-baked potatoes, two huge stuffed chicken breasts (One mushroom and one broccoli cheddar), and a package of lemon-marinated chicken thighs for $40! The only one that I've eaten so far is the mushroom-stuffed chicken breast and it was really delicious. I'm looking forward to trying everything else in my freezer. They were super helpful about answering questions and giving cooking instructions. Since so much of their food is prepared it's a great place for people who don't cook.

The meat sticks were good overall, although I thought they could have used a little more flavor. I specifically stopped in hoping to pick up some blueberry brats, but they were sold out, so I went with the beer brats instead. They were decent, but again seemed to lack seasoning. I also asked about the cheese dips. The young gentleman working behind the counter was polite, but he didn't offer much guidance or any recommendations when I asked about the options. I ended up trying the jerk dip, which tasted more like cream cheese than jerk seasoning and had little flavor. Overall, nothing was particularly bad, but nothing really stood out either. The Bearded Dutchman came highly recommended, so perhaps my expectations were a little high. I'd be willing to give the blueberry brats a try if I'm back in the area and they're available, but this visit fell short of expectations.

Can I just say OMG!? My husband and I love BBQ, so when we saw all the food awards this place won…read morein the "Best of 2022" in the Holland Sentinel, we had to try it. And are we glad we did! The half chicken was smoked, tender and juicy. The brisket was meaty and flavorful--they didn't skimp on the meat in a slider like many places do. We split it and still had meat falling out! St. Louis ribs are usually too tough for me--but these were fall-off-the-bone tender like baby back ribs. All. To. Die. For! We didn't try all the sides, but we recommend the baked beans (husband liked putting extra BBQ sauce on them) and corn. Note: the corn bread is not to be missed! We ordered online and everything was spot on in the drive-thru. The people are super nice as well. Enjoy! And thank me (and all the Holland Sentinel voters!) later!

First the good: -Staff was friendly and helpful. -Place was clean. -Garlic toast was yummy! -French fries were fresh and hot. Now the bad: -Pulled Pork was mushy and completely shredded to where it kind of clumped together, lacked any smoke flavor and tasted like water had been added (maybe more than once) to add moisture. -Campfire corn was weird. I never had anything like it, so I have a hard time evaluating. At first I did not like it at all, but as I ate more I kind of liked it. Final tally, 2.5 out of 5. -Sauces were not good at all. I tried the sweet and the spicy and both were meh. I did not try the mustard sauce. I wanted to like the place. I love BBQ and want LOTS of good BBQ joints to exist. But, when I read this on the website, "Holy Smokers BBQ has won many awards for their delicious Que! They still compete...in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Why settle for BBQ that just don't measure up. Years of proven success cooking BBQ Low & Slow for that flavor that can't be matched." and then have such a bad experience with the meat, it's disappointing. I will try again and if I have a better result, I'll update.

The restaurant itself felt a bit rundown and dirty, which should've been my first red flag. I was seated quickly, which was nice, but even the menu was sticky and didn't seem properly cleaned. I ordered the 6 oz sizzling steak with a side of ribs. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, it took quite a while for the food to come out. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box, and the steak was overcooked even though I had requested medium-well. On the positive side, they gave me a generous portion of ribs, but the flavor was nothing special. The broccoli was easily the most disappointing part of the meal. It had brown and black spots, looked far from fresh, and even tasted a little off. It honestly made me question the quality of the ingredients they were serving. The complimentary rolls were decent, and the cinnamon butter was probably the highlight of the entire meal, which says a lot. Service was also pretty slow. After I was ready to pay and had my card out, I waited quite a while for my server to come collect it. Overall, between the questionable cleanliness, disappointing food quality, and slow service, I really can't recommend this place. There are definitely better options out there if you're craving a good steak.

However, the reviews were good so we ventured in... and I'm glad we did as the inside is extremely inviting and the food was great! First of all - there's a kid's waiting area with snacks!! What an amazing idea! We sat quickly and ordered. I had the salmon entree - which was not the prettiest looking plate but wow, was it good! Cooked well and the vegetables that were steamed on the side were perfectly cooked also. Burgers looked good and everyone ate swiftly so I assume everyone's meals were delicious. Service was friendly and swift (but didn't rush us) and this spot even had clean bathrooms (which is a huge plus for a restaurant). Price is reasonable especially for the portion sizes. So, ignore the location and the look of the outside (they also have speakers playing horse sounds outside...) and head in for a delicious and friendly meal.

It was super nice that they brought him an Oreo cookie for dessert. This is my kind of place, they get it.
