My mother in law and I decided to swing through here before watching an OSU game at Urban's. (We decided to have ice cream before dinner...shhh)! It was great! The aroma when you walk is enough to make you want to try everything in the place! All of the fresh, homemade sweets are perfectly lined and displayed throughout the place. My mother in law was extremely impressed. After looking at all of the goodies, we decided on ice cream! I got the peppermint ice cream in a waffle cone and my mother in law got the blueberry waffle ice cream in a waffle cone! They were delicious! The waffle cones seemed as if they had just been made fresh as they were crisp and warm. We sat in the "dining room" next to the room with all the goodies and was able to enjoy a nice, quiet conversation while also enjoying our sweet, sweet ice cream! It was seriously amazing! So amazing that I referred a couple people to Kilwins while watching the OSU game across the street at Urban's! I will definitely be back the next time I'm on that side of town! Given the line out the door, I expected their ice cream to be AMAZING but it was just OK. I did not find it as rich and creamy as Graeters or Jenis. I would even prefer custard from Culvers over this. I will say however that the chocolates and marzipan that we bought were delicious. That is definitely their strong suit. Yay, another delicious chocolate spot in Columbus! Plus, they have chocolate! The person working when I came in was super friendly about me asking questions (and sampling!). Get here now to try everything salted caramel - you won't regret it. In addition to my ice cream, I bought a chocolate covered s'more. What does that mean, you may wonder? It's exactly what you think - two graham crackers with a marshmallow in the middle and the entire thing is covered in chocolate. Pro tip: eat the corners off the graham crackers first before trying to bite into it like a sandwich. Also, have napkins available. So I'm not an ice cream person admittedly but after a nice dinner out with friends on one of the first warm nights we opted to find a place for dessert and my friend mentioned Kilwins. We walked into a brightly lit chocolate and ice cream shop and seeing all of the different type of chocolate was my chocolate loving dream. After perusing a large selection of ice cream and sherbets, I opted for the salted caramel chocolate ice cream. I ordered a single scoop in a cup and the lady scooped a very generous scoop of ice cream in a cup. We went to the seating area which was empty when we sat down to enjoy our after dinner sweet treat. The ice cream was delicious, smooth, creamy, and chocolatey with chunks of salted caramel. I think I may have gotten converted to loving ice cream again! My only complaint is the calorie counts on each of the items front and center with each item... but that's more just because of my own guilty conscious and that quickly disappeared after the first spoonful! read more

This place has everything! I've only been there by myself or with my boyfriend on a whim, so I've nver tried to order ahead or order a large quantity. What I've have bought, though was amazing. The price is a little high, but it is definitely right for a place like this. Their chocolate is on par with Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and that used to be my favorite place. It is right in the Short North, but there is a parking garage less than one minute away that is cheap and the ideal place to park in that area. Absolutely loved the atmosphere of this place! We could smell the fresh waffle cones from the parking garage right around the corner, and upon walking in we were immediately greeted by an employee who was hand-dipping cherries in chocolate. We were helped by Libbey, who was super sweet to give us lots of samples and answered all of our questions about where Kilwin's originated and the correct pronunciation of "Mackinac". Stopped in tonight and were excited to enjoy some ice cream and purchase other chocolates as the store is inviting and cheery. We stood in line for approximately 10 min and no one waited on us or acknowledged our existence. There were probably 10 or so people in the store and only two workers. I don't get it. People are all gaga over a chain ice cream place. I had a few sample and that was plenty, zero desire to order a dish of anything. I guess it would be good ice cream if you were stuck in bridge park without a car or feet. Jeni's is just across the river or if you go a bit farther up sawmill and hard rd there is Mardi gra. The banana ice cream had minimal nana flavor and kind of like saccharine aftertaste, it just wasnt good. I honestly would go to udf over this, and that's on hard rd too. read more

CREAMY, DREAMY chocolates! Smooth and silky. I wanted to sample a small cut of their milk chocolate to see how long it took to melt in my mouth, but they don't have samples of that. Hurray, one of the nice gals behind the counter gladly took a square from the casing and cut off a sliver. Devine! Great melt time, no "film" that had to dissolve before the chocolate began to melt in my mouth. There's so many to pick from, it took me a minute, but decided on a Buckeye (duh!), milk chocolate cashew tuttle, a hazelnut truffle, a Bavarian cream, one other chocolate something-or-other, and one homemade caramel. PS, amongst other things, they make their own caramel from scratch, daily, using giant copper kettles. I can wait to work my way thru these delicacies! Worth noting that free parking is readily available on the street, and there's a parking garage just across the street. I'm looking forward to my next stop in, as trying a few other new chocolates always makes a day 100% better. read more

Go to Johnson's, Jeni's or Grater's... Killwins is a customer service nightmare! My wife's birthday, I called to ensure they had the cake. $40 for a 6" ice cream cake?! ...but she loves their toasted coconut. I opened the cake box to find that it was most likely left out for a while then re- frozen. The cake was destroyed, and I had guests. I called the store and Mark "the manager" offered me a full refund for a cake that had been destroyed before I bought it. He said " I'll give you a full refund, keep the cake" after consuming the edible portions of the "cake", I got another call from Mark saying that the owner wants the full cake back for a refund. "But you said to keep it!?! Did you not know the policy?" He came back with "no, I'm new here" Basically He lied to me and the owner. After several hours, and waiting for a call back, I was finally talking to the owner, Ernie, who basically has zero experience with customer satisfaction and went back on the word Mark "the manager" and offered me a $40 gift card for a store I will never visit again. Ernie said that Mark was not a manager... so that equates to no manager on the premises. He then called me a liar... I will NEVER visit Kilwins again. They are a pack of liars and thieves. read more

Confections were adorable! Halloween themed treats were everywhere and the ice cream was good too. I got a small scoop of toasted coconut and salted caramel chocolate which was primarily chocolate flavored. It was a great combination and even though I was expecting a small scoop for $5, I feel like the amount easily could've been called a medium serving. The sales clerk said they make most of their ice creams in house, I didn't ask which. The apples and chocolate dipped Rice Krispie treats on a stick looked so fun so a few of the people that I was with, bought one for their kids. With covid spots on the floor and identified lines for ice cream and another for chocolate not even the employees followed the rules. I'm older with a cane and I'm standing 1st in line for ice cream while 6 other people wandered in and were served before I was. Two handicap parking spaces up the street and around the corner with an extra 6" between to park while people parked on the street with 3/4 car lengths between each car. I got a scoop of the Apple pie ice cream after reading wonderful reviews; It was merely vanilla with 2 small pieces of what seemed to be Apple pie filling for $5.00; Caramel apples are $8 a piece. I won't be back. ADDENDUM: On my return home, opened my purchase to see they didn't even give me what I asked for. I requested a caramel apple with peanuts; I got a caramel apple ... no peanuts. How fun to find a Kilwin's in Ohio! I'm familiar with Kilwin's location in Saratoga, NY and had no idea that they had a location in Columbus! We'll have to come back the next time we visit friends in CBus! Kilwin's is well known for its chocolates, but my favorite items they have for sale are their delicious ice creams and chocolate covered apples (in a wide variety!). The shop has a nostalgic feel from the black and white tiling and from their traditional chocolates. They definitely up the ante with the quality, and their diverse array of offerings beyond basic chocolates will surprise you. I highly recommend trying their sea salt caramel covered apples (I actually slice mine up to make it easier to eat-the caramel and chocolate coatings are decadently thick and can be a little difficult to eat like a regular apple!). I also am a huge fan of their cookie dough and cookies and cream ice creams, of course scooped into their signature waffle cones-which, by the way, are made fresh in house and have 'Kilwin's' stamped on them! This location also has a side room perfect for parties, meeting up with friends, or for a quick sit and chocolate fix. Definitely worth checking out if you've never been to a Kilwin's! read more

I love Kilwins, there is one in Frankfort, MI. I have never had a bad experience there. So many amazing flavors. I had originally wanted a Kilwins in Ohio so I could go whenever and eat the sweet treats and ice cream. I went with my mom and the ice cream was extremely soft, the apples looked pre-packaged, and the workers we NOT kind whatsoever. The one in MI has larger single scoops as well. I was NOT impressed. I have been to the Beavercreek location where I first fell in love with their carmel apples and New Orleans praline pecan ice cream. Yesterday was my first visit to the new Dublin location although it is just a few blocks from my home. Mostly, we have waited to find a parking spot in front and it almost never happens. There is plenty of parking in the parking garage, but I am in a transport chair and my husband pushes me, so we need something closer. We did find a handicap spot around the corner so not too bad. This time, I was given a sample of the maple walnut fudge and it was heavenly and of course I bought a slice. But the reason I came in was for the carmel apples that I fell in love with in Dayton. They were as good as I remember. However, when I asked for them to be cut, I thought it would be like they did it at Beavercreek, sliced vertically into wedges and pushed back together to look like a whole apple. I ordered two, and noticed the very nice woman who waited on us cutting the apples into chunks into plastic containers. She said she was doing that so she could put a lid on them to take home. I told her I like the other way with the slices because I felt that pushing them back together exposed less of the apple to turn brown than all the chunks exposed to the air. She said it is the same no matter which way they are cut. She is the expert, but this doesn't ring true to me and I was a little disappointed. And they were harder to eat as well since all those little chunks stuck together. The slices were easy to pull off and eat. Mostly, I felt that when I said I wanted them cut, she could have asked me if I wanted the Kilwin's cut or cut up in chunks in a plastic container. Even when she could see I was clearly disappointed, and she hadn't cut the second one yet, she persisted. Next time I will speak up now that I know "cut" can mean more than one way. As far as candies, the bagged ones I have tried are all, to me, cloyingly sweet. Never thought anything could be too sweet for me, but these are. But I have found my nirvana in the carmel apples, the fudge and the ice cream, so I will be returning to Kilwins (when the parking is serendipitous!) So glad they are in the neighborhood! read more

I was visiting Dublin and Columbus, OH for the weekend and while it was near freezing, we still wanted ice cream. Of course there were too many flavors to fit in one cone so we had to give them a try. The employee who helped us was a pleasure to work with and even when we thought we had over-sampled, she offered us to try more flavors. She was patient with us while we took a minute to decide and when we asked what her favorite flavor was or what she recommended, she was ready with an answer.
