This is some of the best ice cream around. Open since 1950 this ice cream shop is sure to please! I enjoyed a flavor called carmel pie and it was delicious! It melted slowly and left a wonderful finish. The scope was huge and my belly was truly satisfied. My husband had the Columbus crunch and loved it. They have sundaes that I will get next time! This is a cute ice cream place in Dublin and gives out a "mom and pop store vibe" in spite of the fact that there are other locations in new Albany, Columbus, etc. I've been meaning to visit it for a while, so I came here with high hopes, but the ice cream is hit or miss. Don't stop before you get there. There is an ice cream place and a Starbucks down the street from here. Always the best ice cream. I've heard great things about Johnson's, so I was a bit disappointed with my experience. I came in with two friends and ordered a chocolate fudge milkshake. I got a large, so it was $7, and when I got it, it wasn't even close to being filled to the top. I took a picture before I drank anything (see below), and it felt like a rip-off, especially due to the high price anyway. My friends also got milkshakes, and although theirs were filled to the top, we all agreed they tasted slightly watery. My one friend and I also both noted tastes of banana in our milkshakes that had no bananas in them. Definitely an issue of cross-contamination, which could be an issue for those with allergies. My parents and I biked to downtown Dublin and wanted to take a break with a sweet treat. We planned to go to another nearby ice cream shop, but they were only selling pints, not scoops. We decided to go a little further and ran into Johnson's, I had no clue it was even there. I'm so glad we found it because it was delicious! They have a wide range of flavors so there's something for everyone. I got the blueberry pie and raspberry cheesecake on a waffle cone. YUMMY! Such a cute little ice cream shop! I love that they're open late on Sunday nights, perfect for summer nights! They have a huge list of flavors, both classic and creative. This is a cute location in historic Dublin! The structure has a lot of character and offers good space for a small seating area inside, a refrigerator full of goodies, and, of course, the ice cream case full of delicious flavor choices! There was a nice selection, from seasonal favorites like peppermint, to many more common favorites. It was great that they also offer a smaller "kids cup" option, and all of the cup sizes were clearly labeled and lined up on the counter from which to choose. The kiddo opted for a kids cup of the Buckeye Fever, which was much enjoyed! There are benches available out front, and parking is available in several public lots or parking garages nearby. Typically...I'm a Graeter's gal. But I really wanted to try the non-dairy coconut-cream based options that Johnson's has on offer! The mint chocolate chip was delightful and truly did not taste like it was non-dairy--creamy and minty, just the right blend. My husband loved his chocolate milk shake; it was gone in minutes! One recommendation to the owners: please don't allow samples in-store during COVID. Customers were generally respectful of social distancing, but it makes me uncomfortable when folks are taking off their masks--and expelling germs into the air--to sample half a dozen flavors before making their decision. The flavors were very good; I had the Salted Carmel Pretzel, other flavors were the Buckeye with a vanilla ice cream base with peanut butter and chocolate nuggets of deliciousness and a Double Chocolate as well as Strawberry with real strawberries. Harkening back to a by-gone era is Johnson's Real Ice Cream. Entering makes you feel more like stepping back into the 1950's mixed with 2020 decor. This place has amazing ice cream and some really interesting mixes of flavors. The staff was wonderfully nice and accommodating, allowing us to sample whatever we desired to ensure we got what we wanted. This ice cream is for real, delicious and creamy and I'd highly recommend the Columbus Crunch as it's got some flavors going on that I've never had anywhere in my 49 years on this planet. Long line. Worth the wait. It's a small shop but there are so many flavors to choose from! I got the cherry cordial with hot fudge and whipped cream. It was amazing! The peanut butter is frozen in rock hard slabs inside the ice cream and the chocolate ice cream was oddly not sweet.
