Wine Tour Impromptu Stop: Killdeer Distilling We had time to kill before our next winery stop so the tour company we were with took us here. My husband and I split a tasting which was $10. Colin, one of the owners, was very friendly and informative. Our favorites were the corn whiskey and espresso liqueur plus the black cat that we met. This was a pleasant surprise to stop at while being on a wine tour.

Outstanding spirits! This is a great place to visit and enjoy the spirits they produce. Passionate staff who provide a wonderful experience. Come here and experience this before some hedge fund swoops in and buys them out.

Colin and Kate are purveyors of some of the most interesting spirits I've ever encountered. They're clearly passionate about what they are doing: crafting small batches of some very unique and distinctive offerings. The rye whiskey is deep and complex. It's the sort of thing you'd want to sip with friends with a cold glass of water by the fire. The 100% corn whiskey is one you could easily mix into cocktails or drink straight. It's clean, simple, and delightfully approachable. The vodka is a close typed cousin.......probably the smoothest and cleanest finish of any vodka I've ever tried. The gin, is also extremely clean and just amazing. I have never, ever, found a gin that was so subtly nuanced with fresh citrus scent and tastes......it's smooth, gentle, and eminently drinkable. Even non-gin people will probably find something in this to intrigue. The espresso liqueur is simply delicious as well. If you can't imagine this with the vodka as a Black Russian, or drizzled over some good vanilla ice cream, you aren't challenging yourself! But, my friends: the STAR of the visit was their absinthe! If you've never tried it before, I'll warn you: it will simply ruin you. If you already like absinthe, you're in for a shock! It's got the absinthe punch, but it requires no extensive sugar cube prep. Drop in an ice cube and sip slowly.......every sip is different and sooooo divine! Talking to both owners, they enthuse over crafting spirits that are excellent renditions of their types. "Approachability and drinkability" are words they both use often.......something pretty unique among many small craft distillers. Often, the focus on high-specialty offerings can lose beginners, as it caters only to the more experienced taster. Here, everyone is going to find something to raise an eyebrow.......I'll wager that you'll leave with a lot of their products. Solid win for Killdeer Distillery! In an area where many people visit to check out the many local wineries, this is not a stop to be missed. In fact, it's worth the trip all for itself!

This is so good and refreshing!

Stunning spirits at great prices. Don't miss out on this hidden gem. The Gin, Vodka, and Bourbon are money!

Family owned and operated. All of their liquor was extremely approachable. Great stop on your wine tasting tours.

Service is friendly, quick and they check in on you once in awhile to make sure you're good. Their cocktails are consistently good - strong but balanced. Can't go wrong with any of them!

Amaya took care of us immediately as we got settled, bringing water and menus. The flights looked so pretty, so I chose the Spring Flight. Of these(see photos for names & descriptions) I enjoyed The Valley Girl most because I have a sweet tooth and both the black currant purée & elderflower worked perfectly together. Food was definitely in order for this flight, so I selected the Figalicious panini which featured prosciutto w/balsamic fig jam and goat cheese. It was the PERFECT sandwich for my flight! Hubs stuck with N/A beverages and enjoyed his Tropink hemp beverage and soda. My original plan was to enjoy the flight then select the full size cocktail of the drink I enjoyed the most (i.e. Valley Girl), but I wasn't able to follow through. The "flights" were such generous pours the panini wasn't absorbing the alcohol fast enough. LOL At $25 for the flight, I think this is VERY reasonable way to experience Freeland. The vibe here is casual chic. The furnishings are modern, comfy and BEAUTIFUL! From the front you can see through these MASSIVE windows into the working distillery, with its gleaming tanks. The displays are arranged in a way to allow the spirits to be showcased, but the bottles are so pretty it doesn't feel overwhelming or intimidating. Really well designed for a comfortable meeting place to drink, nibble and kiki, but if you want to impress OOT guests, Freeland Spirits would work for that as well. Before leaving, Amaya let us in on a tip for our trip out of PDX: Freeland Spirits and mixers are available for the same price at the airport! I'll DEF be making room in my carry-on for the Freeland Forrest Gin and Valley Girl mixer. Cheers! "CC"
