Very cool newish cocktail bar with a great vibe. Pretty unassuming exterior - felt like there was plenty of nearby street parking, even on a Saturday night. Very cool ambiance and such an eclectic interior with lots of little corners and side rooms. Big main room has the bar, then there's a side room with sofas and chairs and a few U tables - a small side room as you walk to the back for a private party vibe, and then a back outdoor patio with a fire. We came at 4-5pm when they were starting their happy hour so we had a lot of space to park (street parking) however I could see it becoming a little bit of a problem over the weekend. The drink? Amazing! Service? Excellent! Ambience? A+ There's also quite a few seating options. Unlike what you see from the outside it's a pretty spacious bar. Me and my bestie initially could not find the entrance (sort of like a speakeasy concept) and it's in the middle of a place where you wouldn't really expect such a nice bar to be at. Went here the night before thanksgiving and was so pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is adorable and the decor was perfect. The drinks were awesome, and the bartender even remembered our orders which was wildly impressive for them being busy. It's also a surprisingly large space. When you first walk in you think it's just the bar area but there is a large back room, a smaller cozy room and a large outdoor area. I highly highly recommend checking this place out. It's a little off the beaten path if you're planning to go out downtown but well worth the stop! read more

I went to the Kiesling for a happy hour this week. The space is gorgeous with a diamond or diagonal line motif design throughout the place. Driving down Milwaukee just south of Grand Boulevard in Detroit, you might miss this small bar in a quiet part of New Center (is East of Woodward still New Center?). They even restored some old nature paintings from the interior walls. The drinks were pretty solid. I had the Vieux Carre which was like a vanilla infused old fashioned drink at $14. It was very tasty. All of my friends who joined me also said their drinks were great. The Kiesling "K" molded giant ice cubes in the drinks were a nice touch. One drawback was that I found the drinks quite expensive. I don't think any of the drinks were cheaper than $13. Also there was one person at the bar who apparently wasn't a bartender and just cleaning dishes. I saw at least 10 people try to approach her for drinks. The bar should sort that out to avoid confusion. read more

This place is a perfect combination of hipster craft cocktail spot and friendly neighborhood joint. It was surprisingly live for early Monday evening and it was clear that a lot of folks coming through were regulars. Didn't know there was a back patio (I love a patio) and every Monday, there's a pop-up restaurant situation out there. By the time I left at 8 PM, it was feeling like a party. Drinks are pricier but worth it. I had the Backyard Betty, a sweeter tequila-based drink that wasn't quite like anything I've had before. Bartenders were warm and easy. The space has a an old-school club room feel, dark and cozy with modern, geometric details. And they have WiFi! Definitely worth a visit. read more

Worth-the-trip, inspired cocktail bar in New Center. Kiesling may be a bit out of the way on a Detroit barhop, but you won't regret stopping in! Their seasonally changing cocktail menu features a selection of drinks with interesting ingredients and excellent flavor. One of my favorite cocktails in Detroit was a Kiesling original from the spring with gin, chartreuse, honey and lemon mixed in and pollen as a garnish. Beyond the drinks the atmosphere feels a bit like a classy hunter's lodge. Typically it doesn't get too loud so it's a good place for a date/having a conversation. Classy, hidden cocktail bar in new center. The atmosphere was trendy, dimly lit and not overly loud. I really liked my piña colada. I tried the miso drink which was too salty and I wasn't a fan of. I was there with about 8 people and there was a long bench we could all sit at. The entrance isn't very obvious but there's a yellow K light that you'll see. I took my girlfriend here for their birthday and loved it. I will definitely be coming back. They have delicious, beautiful and boujiee cocktails AND some cheaper deals like a $5 shot and beer combo. They got a happy hour that I'll be going back to with some half price cocktails. There's something for everyone. The bartenders are professional and talented, and the interior is quite breathtaking. I love it. Highly recommend. The history is interesting as well with murals from 1913 still preserved on the walls. Very nice place, we stopped in for a drink last Saturday night. Neighborhood is a little rough, but it was still a bright summer evening and we found parking quite close. Greeted warmly upon entering and we made our way to the couch area (it was still really early, I'm sure you can't do this most nights!). Friendly service and great drinks -- the owner even stopped by to say hi and thank us for coming in as I guess they're still quite new. I've been coming to kiesling since they first opened and the vibe used to immaculate. It was a place where you could go for a classic cocktail and have good conversation with people in the community. The past 6 months this place has done a 180 and I no longer feel comfortable here. I'm not sure if ownership has changed or what but I've noticed a lot of changes including some of my favorite bartenders who made this place e feel like home leave, the general vibe is off it used to give velvet underground and good films but now it's like Kanye blaring and obscure movies with frat boys taking shots in the background. To put it simply it feels really like the culture has changed for the worse.
