The staff worked efficiently and were friendly in an "urban setting" kind of way. Seating inside is ample yet also stayed full as this place appears to be quite popular. Prices were reasonable. We will return just to hang out and try more of their offering or the attached pizza place called The Rectory. On Wednesdays, they offer a local farmers market. Kudos to the visionaries who restored this building and created an interesting and warm community gathering place.

Olivia was our server and despite being slammed she gave us a thorough rundown of the place, the menu, and the flavors. Everything sounded great and she certainly made deciding easier. We started with a chartreuse forward cocktail, The Last Word...which is certainly a drink worthy of a conversation. I do recommend trying it to start. We also got the bread service with seasonal butter which was cinnamon salt. My wife is not a big fan of cinnamon and even she enjoyed it. Hard to explain how good just bread can be but when it comes out with a crunchy sourdough crust, is still steaming, and has the perfect chew...it just hits the spot! We settled on the pan seared cod and bay scallop ceviche for our plates and as much as we intended on sharing, we were both very satisfied with our choices. There is something so refreshing about a simple dish that is prepared so well. It was hard to watch the dishes we didn't choose be taken out to other tables because everything looked so fresh and delicious. The dining area is nice, definitely can get a little loud but they did really well with the space given to get seats available and still make their own comfy space with its own character. We tried the s'mores cake for dessert and it too was excellent. Rich without being too much. I think that the price was very reasonable for farm fresh and handmade dishes. Actually, more than reasonable...I even said I wish we could come back tomorrow for dinner. We will be back in October, you can count on that!

There is a small parking lot at the Jam Handy, but we weren't really sure if we could park there, even for the rehearsal the day before the wedding. The space is historic and you can read about it online, but it served as a sound stage for the Jam Handy Organization, which specialized in industrial films and filmstrips for General Motors and the United States Armed Forces. The venue itself is a bit rustic and industrial, and serves as a blank canvas for whatever vision you have for your event. In this case, it was a wedding with lots of beautiful flowers and floral arrangements and green plants everywhere. The bar when you entered was a great touch, and guests were able to have a glass of wine before moving to the ceremony room, which had a floral backdrop. This space was turned into the late night dance party area as well. There isn't much around this venue, so don't plan on a lot of bar hopping nearby before your event. In fact, most of the bars didn't open until 5 pm on Friday, the day of the wedding. The only other downfall of the venue was having to go downstairs to use the restroom. There is one gender neutral restroom on the main floor but it was occupied 99% of the time I tried the door. Just something to note for people with mobility issues, high heels, etc. I also noticed some uneven areas in the floors. Overall I had a great time at this venue and was impressed with how it was transformed from the rehearsal time to the wedding itself! Sometimes I think spots like this are a little too much of a blank space for someone like me, who lacks creative vision to turn a place like this into something really beautiful. However, with the right team and vision, it can be exceptional!
