Second, the atmosphere is perfect for kids: a cute rainbow playhouse, a sizable play area with toys and books, and Disney movies playing on screens throughout the salon. Third, Daniella (our stylist) did a great job working with a toddler at her first haircut, letting her sit on my husband's lap, going very gently with her, and working quickly. Finally, the price of $25 was reasonable - note that it's a cash-only salon, so make sure you stop at the ATM. (Also note - it's only 10 minutes away from Neil's Donuts in Wallingford, the best donuts in the state, so you can treat your kid and yourself to something sweet afterward!) If you need to get your child or children's hair cut I highly recommend you take them here. We walked in and were able to get a hair cut within a half hour. I didn't think to call ahead (totally my fault) as I wasn't sure we were staying but they were very nice about it and made time for us. They sell quite a nice selection of children's activities, toys, games and craft projects. My daughter picked out a couple while we waited. The environment was warm and welcoming. The seats are little cars where the child can safely buckle up and watch a small TV in front of them. My daughter who usually will not watch TV was completely entranced by the nice variety of children's cartoons displayed on the TV screen. Charlie did my daughter's hair and she was absolutely fantastic with my daughter. My daughter was completely at ease the whole time. She found the experience quite enjoyable and was treated like a Princess complete with a lovely Elsa braid, a touch of temporary rainbow hair colors just for fun, and she topped it off with glitter. It was a fantastical hairstyle that looked like it was straight off the set of a Disney movie. All in all it was a truly wonderful and unique experience. My daughter said she "felt pretty" which was the best part.

She listened to my concerns and asked me specifics about my current hair care regimen before starting anything. I then had a much needed clarifying wash, moisture treatment, steaming, conditioning, and twist out which turned out gorgeous. I also had a trim. She was also very gentle with my natural hair and tender scalp. It's been three weeks and my hair looks so much healthier. No more dullness here! She has no regard for wanting to protect your natural hair texture. I went to her for a wash and press for a school ceremony. My hair was LAID, but trust when I went to wash it weeks later, my hair texture was several times looser and no amount of protein treatments would help. She gave me severe heat damage. She also has a way of talking down to you during the "consultation," to make you feel like you can't take care of your hair and to guilt you into paying for her absurd special conditioning treatments. Don't fall for it. If you're rocking 2C mixed girl waves, I'm sure you'll have no problem with Ms. Kay. But if you have real kinks and coils that need extra care, DO NOT GO TO HER. The woman who cut my hair seemed clueless about cutting mens hair, was very hesitant and clumsy, and left my hair a sloppy mess. I vowed not to return, no matter how low the price. Then some months later, someone close to me told me that they'd basically turned over the entire initial crew, and that the people working there are much more capable. In addition, they'd continued to advertise very inexpensive cuts, so I decided to go back. Glad I did. The woman who cut my hair clearly was experienced and gave me a nice, neat cut. Now, make no mistake, this isn't a cut on the level of say Phil's in downtown New Haven -- there's little blending of the sides, my neck wasn't shaved with a razor, and she didn't do a great job around my ears. At the promotional price I paid, it was still a no-brainer. At its regular price of $14, it's still a decent deal. As a comparable, this cut was as easily as good as what I recently got at Sports Clips in Milford, where the regular price is $19 and they're pushing washes hard so you're likely to be paying something like $22+ tip. I've returned one more time since, and I again got a solid cut (though not quite as good as last time). Still, I'm going to give 4 stars -- solid cuts, friendly service, and good prices.
