My husband has the chilled, char grilled (or maybe they were wood fired) beets with mandarin oranges. Whereas they didn't look "grilled" they were definitely chilled. But they were beets--and a beet tastes like...well, "beets". But the wood fired octopus was amazing!! Superb flavor and a MUST if you come here. I wanted to check out Kid Cashew's happy hour with a group of work friends. There was a total of 6 of us and we came right at 3 and were seated right away. On the website it listed that the happy hour for Monday was $6 clear liquors and $6 small plates. That has apparently changed to $7 but did not reflect on the website, which was fine. It was not very busy but it took a long time to get our drink and food orders in. I wanted to get another round of drinks and water but the server did not come check on us for a long time and we were all ready to go, which was unfortunate. The food and aesthetic were both really nice though. I ordered the meatball au poivre and the caramelized brussel sprouts. The cognac gravy on the meatballs was amazing! I actually dipped my brussels in it because it was so good! The brussel sprouts had good flavor but I do wish they were crispier/more caramelized. I also tried some of my friend's spinach dip and that was amazing. For my drink, I ordered a margarita but it was on the sour side. I do recommend coming here for the tasty food, but be prepared to wait. read more

Food was good, however the service was horrible. The waitresses looked like they didn't know what they were doing, and had trouble even writing down our order. When she brought my food, her arm touched my gyro and sauce from the gyro got on her arm. Maybe it's just this waitress and I wish I got her name, but my experience was not good here. Ridiculously good food here, maybe some of the best food I've had in Charleston bar none. Friendly and attentive service with a smile started everything off in the right direction. The place is quaint, with great atmosphere and was nice and quiet on a Monday afternoon. The spinach and feta dip was spectacular, pita perfectly seasoned and toasted. The half chicken was beyond amazing, fall of the bone rotisserie, perfect seasoning - one of the best rotisserie chickens I've ever had. The white beans were incredible. The octopus was tender and fresh. The salmon was cooked to perfection with a nice crispy skin. Looking forward to making this a regular lunchtime spot when in the Charleston area. 5/5. Takeout review- super yummy food!! My boyfriend ordered me delivery from here and it was B O M B. I got to try the lamb gyro with chips, the vegan brussel sprouts, and chicken skewers. All three were delicious! I'm a sucker for gyros and the gyro was very tasty. The chips were BBQ kettle. The brussel sprouts were PACKED with delicious flavor but a good amount of oil pooled in the box as I was eating my gyro. From their Hummus appetizer $7.95 made with chickpeas, imported greek olive oil, served with carrots & celery and pita. It was so tasty, delicious and fresh. Their butterless Brussels Sprouts are to die for, $8.95 and made with Brussels sprouts, caramelized w/ lemon vinaigrette & almonds. Don't let the strange name of this restaurant stop you from trying it out. Our party of four visited the Mt. Pleasant, SC location on a weeknight. For starters, we shared the Spreads Duo and Brussels Sprouts. Both were delicious -- that warm pita bread wins me over every time. My husband and I shared the Cast Iron Mac & 5 Cheeses, Sauteed Shrimp & Polenta, the Cilantro-Lime Marinated Chicken Skewers and the Wood-Fire Grilled Sausage and Cheese. My favorite was the Shrimp & Polenta (basically shrimp and grits but tastier in my opinion) and the creamy white beans that came with the sausage. Delicious. The small plates are really not that small. We left stuffed AND we had food leftover. Definitely a must-try. We will be back! read more

WOW... What a pleasant and unexpected surprise at Kid Cashew. I walked by this place numerous times with no desire to check it out.. Why.. because of the name... yes, I made the assumption that it was a kid diner sort of place and so avoided it. Not at all, I was so wrong. It's very cool and inviting in here with great decor, kind of a elevated Beachy decor look with lots of tables arranged in a cozy manner. They have a great menu with lots to choose from. I had a delicious burger. It really was very very good and a lovely glass of wine. It's an ideal spot to catch up with friends or to drop in after the beach or a night out with friends. WORST FOOD- This was my first time here, and it was a huge disappointment. We came in for dinner and ordered the chicken gyro, while my daughter had the mac and cheese with chicken. Honestly, after just one bite of the gyro, I felt like I was going to be sick--it was absolutely awful. The chicken was flavorless and dry, definitely not what I'd expect from a Mediterranean dish. The same bland chicken was also piled on top of my daughter's mac and cheese, which was watery and unappetizing. She barely took a bite before refusing to eat any more. I was indifferent with the octopus and chicken I ordered. I love octopus usually but this dish just missed the spot. I think it was a bit too sour. The chicken was small for half chicken. I thought I would have leftovers. I thought the taste of the chicken was decent but it was a bit dry. The mimosa was okay, I definitely have had better. My friends were pretty indifferent with their meals. Our waitress was awful. We ate there around 1pm, so it was after the lunch rush and the restaurant was quiet. She was polite but never smiled. She did an awful job checking in on us and refilling our waters. We hardly saw her during our meal. Our waitress totally blanked out when my friend ordered her food, so we had this super awkward moment when the waitress just stood there and waiting for my friend to order. Small plates is a house specialty and it's so hard to choose, they all look so good. Can't go wrong with the curly noodle Mac-n-cheese! Shrimp and Polenta is a winner too. The lamb gyro is tasty and toasty. The lamb burger is tasty too but perhaps a bit too strongly flavored for my tastes with the double patty. Next time I'll order it special to have only a single patty. Plenty of tzatziki sauce made the bottom bun turn to mush, so flip the burger over to preserve the bun. (That's a tip right there folks). The Bloody Mary was not great, but for sure strong. However, the food made up for it. We arrived around 7:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening and it wasn't very crowded. We were seated immediately. Went to lunch with my family a couple of weeks ago at Kid Cashew and since it was nice out we opted to sit outside on the patio for table service. My brother in law got the Big Mac Daddy that had special sauce, shredded lettuce, white cheddar cheese, pickles on sesame seed bun (it's also one of my favorite things to order too), I opted for the take 2 lunch option, which I got their chicken avocado sandwich with garden greens, tomato, gouda cheese, cilantro yogurt on multi-grain bread and the white bean and sausage as my other side. FYI, the white beans and sausage is soooo good and reminds me of something my grandmother would make. My niece with the sweet tooth got the kids Nutella French Toast which sounds absolutely disgusting to me (i can't stand Nutella), but she absolutely loved it and was pretty much licking the plate afterwards. My other niece with the more savory taste (like me) got the baked mac and cheese, and it was also very good! Ofcourse the grownups enjoyed a couple bloody marys with our meals. I had the shrimp and grits from the small tasting menu. Perfect size. Shrimp is cooked perfectly and the grits melt in your mouth in true, Charleston style. The server was immediately there to get my drink order and then came back shortly afterwards to get my food order. I ordered the chicken skewer which was delicious. I'm struggling on how to write this review. There are some good things I could say about Kid Cashew, but there was one flagrant issue of incredible negligence that renders everything else irrelevant and will prevent me from ever returning. On vacation in Charleston my family and I were looking for a spot for dinner with outdoor seating. Kid Cashew was literally down the street from our hotel in Mount Pleasant, and we had passed it heading elsewhere a previous evening, so we knew right where it was. The online menu also had a good selection of "normal" items the kids would recognize as well as healthier fare that appealed to my wife. In checking all those boxes the restaurant became a good option for us. We were seated quickly, and to my surprise a kid's menu was brought out along with the regular one. A special kid's menu wasn't advertised anywhere I could find on the website, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the option was available. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger from it, while the rest of us went with a larger beef burger, lamb burger, and salmon. We each finished or nearly-finished our plates. We paid and got up to leave. It was then I happened to notice the small remaining portion of my daughter's burger she hadn't eaten. The outside of the meat was unremarkable. Brown, just as you would expect to see. Underneath that thin crust of doneness however, the inside was pink. Not just pink, but red. And it wasn't just the middle that was red, there was distinct color all the way through. It was, at best, "rare," but even that seems generous. I should not have to explain the dangers of serving something so severely underdone to a child. This was not a case of an adult ordering an item and the server mishearing the requested doneness. This was a burger ordered by a child from the kid's menu. I'm angry at Kid Cashew for serving a child's hamburger this way. I'm angry at myself for not noticing until she had eaten more than three-quarters of it. That final part is what has me most upset. Had I noticed it earlier it could have been sent back. At that point, however, there was nothing that could be done. She had eaten almost all of it. Thankfully, she did not become ill or have any adverse effects. For me nothing else about the meal matters. I'm not going to bother talking about what we liked or didn't about the other entrees. Serving a child borderline raw meat is negligent and inexcusable. I will not be returning to Kid Cashew. read more

I've had my eye on Kid Cashew since they announced they were moving into Mt. P's old Triangle location. I walked in and was blown away - it looks like a completely different restaurant! In a very short amount of time, they redid everything. I ordered the portobello mushroom gyro ($9.95, comes with a generous side of kettle chips) and my friend ordered the 1/2 quinoa-stuffed avocado along with the pita/hummus appetizer. It was surprising how much food we got for such a low price, and the quality was another happy surprise. My gyro was so big that I normally would have immediately cut it in half to eat for lunch the next day, but it was so satisfying and delicious that I ate the entire thing at dinner. But, really, for $9.95? I could have just ordered another one for lunch! Our waitress came over a few times more than I would have liked (checked on me 3 times after I told her my friend was less than 5 minutes away) but I'd rather have an attentive waitress than one who ignores us. Being the 1st to review. Always fun. Always stressful. 5 stars after one visit is a big deal for an elite too. All of that aside, I had great service, great cocktails, great food, and a great time so here we go. My friend Tarah knows someone who works here and had already enjoyed the soft opening event. She knows I'm a Yelper so we made plans to enjoy dinner here tonight. Sat in the bar area and had Tia as our server. She was fantastic. Three P's. Professional, Patient, and personable! We weren't in a rush but she checked on us plenty to make sure we were happy. Cocktails and the dipping trio ordered. Sparking dog and pink lady ordered. We liked both. The Pink Lady was short but strong so, be prepared! Sparking dog was much lighter but still fantastic. You know I love dips and sauces, right? Each was delicious but the spicy feta was my favorite. It didn't have kick you in your face spice, but some heat lingered that made you realize spice was there. The pita is fresh, and just the perfect texture for dips. We ordered 3 small plates to share, charred octopus, Mac and cheese, and the quinoa stuffed avocado. The octopus was the best. The char amount was at the level that makes food perfect, not burnt, and I can't think of better octopus I've had for a long time. And I just had some recently! My elite notes to the kitchen would be for the Mac and avocado. Neither dishes sung and it was all because of salt missing. IMO of course. The Mac missed the mornay sauce and salt and the avocado and quinoa had no salt. Tarah agreed the Mac was good, but it's not going to win any Mac Offs! The chipotle sauce had the flavor on the avocado but when you eat separate bites, everything should be seasoned. Great new place and I can't wait for more. Without cocktails, (who does that!) but really I could have left sharing 4 dishes at $20 before tip. So go, over tip your server because you'll enjoy the experience and everything else that comes with it. read more

Our "go-to" spot. To start, the entire menu is delicious. My personal favorites are the Big Mac Daddy burger (tastes like a Big Mac but is an actual burger for the same price as the golden arches) and the gyro. We always end up arguing between the mac and cheese or the brussle sprouts for a small plate to share. The service has always been outstanding. Colin was our bartender last time we were there and he was absolutely crushing it - between the great tasting cocktails, friendly service and timely food arrival, its become a standard of excellence rather than just a "surprisingly good" night out. Oh and they have a daily happy hour, we usually go on Friday's which is $6 cocktails - again, too many good options you can't just pick one. Each day is a different deal so make sure to figure out which night is best for you. One last thing... DOG FRIENDLY. They have a large outdoor seating area which is perfect for our dog, and also good with COVID. If you're into interior decorating (like my wife is) the indoor design of this place is, in her words, "gorgeous." If you like really crappy food, waiting 2 hours to get said crappy food, and apathetic service then don't choose this place. read more

We were the first customers, so we got the whole indoor dining space to ourselves. The indoor dining space is clean and airy. The inside of the restaurant is eclectic and brings a bit of outdoor elements into the space. I decided to go a different route and decided on a wood-fired grilled portobello mushroom. I was very disappointed with my burger. I was very unimpressed with the presentation of the burger. It was flavorless and the portobello did not taste wood-fired at all. I didn't finish the burger and only finished the chips. I'm hoping that my first time here was a fluke. Because we were the first ones there, the chef/cook wasn't ready or hadn't gotten into the groove or rhythm of cooking that morning. Perhaps, we'll return to give this place another try.
