Turkey Bacon Applebutter Sandwich
Jenna W.

Wonderful local spot for delicious sandwiches! It's a very casual atmosphere welcoming to everyone with picnic tables and traditional seating indoors and an outdoor patio space. The menu is filled with a wide variety of sandwiches and salads, you can also build your own sandwich toasted or cold. I ordered the Turkey Bacon Applebutter sandwich and it was incredibly delicious! The turkey was tender, bacon crispy, smoked gouda melted and gooey, with sweet applebutter on toasted and buttery white bread. Every bite was filled with the perfect blend of ingredients, each standing out and not being overpowered. I would have liked a little more turkey in the sandwich to be more protein-filled. But on the side you also have the choice of fries or tater tots too. So it was filling and very much worth the $14. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area hiking, biking, or visiting Falling Water.

We were staying in the area and wanted something fresh and healthy. We checked this place out based on the good reviews and are happy we did! As a vegetarian, it's so nice to have so many choices to pick from! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich which my fiancé enjoyed. I made my own veggie hoagie which was so fun! We also tried the sweet potato fries which were yummy. Everything was incredibly fresh. Unfortunately the chopped romaine on my hoagie had little bugs throughout it, but I guess that is a possibility when you're eating fresh fruit and veggies. The head of romaine that I got must have been infested. Even with that, we won't hesitate to come back and try something else in the future.

Nice restaurant right off the trail and no hills to climb if biking. We stopped here for lunch and it was busy with bikers. My husband said his Reuben was one of the best he's ever had and the banh mi sandwich was delicious. The wait was about 20 minutes to get food but worth the wait. They had complimentary water and hot tea table as well. I would definitely eat here again.

Great spot to grab a quick lunch! I was in the area after seeing a customer and this place was nearby so I just walked in. The service was great, the young gentleman who took my order made sure I knew exactly what I was getting. The southwest salad was great, the homemade dressing was terrific. Was very big and filled me up. The picture speaks for itself. It came with a side of bread that was also very good. The place is very clean and looks new. Definitely hope to try this place out another time!

HEALTHY MENU! If you live or work in the Connellsville area you need to be eating at Kickstand Kitchen! The place is perfect for a quick bite and the staff is super friendly. The place is newer and very clean. The menu contains mostly healthy items which is awesome. The southwest salad I got was amazing, the fresh avocado and chicken were delicious. You also get a side of bread and that was a pleasant surprise cause it was delicious. 10/10 will be coming back next time I'm in the area.

Banh Mi with loaded fries

Talk about a little gem of a restaurant in Connellsville. Great selection of sandwiches, salads and entrees to choose from. I went with their Banh Mi which had a wonderful pickled veggie mix and some crisp jalapenos and cilantro. The roll really stood out as well, substantial size but still soft. Do yourself a favor and order the spokes - which is fried naan bread covered with sugar and cinnamon. We ate it too fast to take a photo.

Ruben sandwich & fries

Why did I wait so long to try this place? I had a Ruben and it was, by far, the best I've ever had. Seriously. It was that good! Perfectly toasted, lots of meat, flavorful kraut and the dressing was delicious. I also had a cup of chili as a starter that was delicious and had the right amount of spice. The fries were equally prepared perfectly. Another thing that is important is that the bathrooms were exceptionally clean and smelled good. If they take this good of care of the bathroom, the kitchen must be clean as well. The entire place was spotless. Also, one of the things I Love is that they have paper towels on the tables. Every restaurant should do this. When you have big, juicy sandwiches this makes it so easy to keep your hands and face clean. An excellent idea. The vibe of the place is laid back with picnic tables, individual tables, couches, chairs and nooks. There's also an outdoor patio, weather permitting and big garage doors that can roll up. I'm definitely going back. Superb food.

Banh Mi Sandwich

Wow! We were riding the GAP and a rider on the trail recommended this place. It was well worth the stop. The menu was awesome for a restaurant in such a small town next to the GAP. We were starving and had another 40 miles to go to end our day so perfect timing. I had the Bah mi sandwich, freaking awesome. Don't pass it by.

Very good food. Although we were the only patrons in the restaurant, service was slow. Their take out business seemed to be booming though.

Best place to eat in town. A must for bikers riding through on the GAP. During midweek in shoulder season it may be the only place open.

The Pizza Fries. These fried dough "egg rolls" contain pepperoni and cheese and are served with a most excellent red dipping sauce. They used to be called Pizza Fryes which was a take on the Historical Dude Founder's name. The Wedding Soup was also a favorite. It was loaded with meatballs and all the other goodness wedding soup has. I had a bowl because I knew it would be good. The pizza wasn't my favorite, but I was already kinda full from the other stuff too, so it didn't get a fair chance. I was kinda bummed they didn't use pasta as a straw. So much fun drinking that way. Love the extra carbs, but I can understand why they went with regular straws. They still serve soda pop in mason jars though. Be Excellent to Each Other! And enjoy your trip to The Italian Oven.

We had a wonderful server, Kate who was friendly and patient with us for our first time visit. She brought our beverages and checked back as we looked over the menu and specials. We settled on a crab and shrimp linguine and chicken Asiago. Looking around, there was a familiar feeling to the restaurant. The checkered black & white and red detailing. We also noticed many diners seemed to have a good relationship with servers. This gave us a feeling of comfort knowing diners obviously were happy at this restaurant. Our dinners started with a salad or cup of soup. Once our dinners arrived we knew we were in trouble because there was a lot in each bowl. Please come hungry. Both dinners were very tasty. We'd recommend this restaurant.

I didn't expect to find a sushi spot, much less a decent one, in a West Pennsylvania town called…read moreConnellsville, but here I was spending the night at the nearby Comfort Inn on the Youghiogheny River (that's a mouthful!). When I asked the front desk staff what might be a good place for dinner, she recommended not this spot but the popular restaurant bar next door. Iconoclast that I am, I decided to venture into the cold pitch black and walked about ten minutes. A polite South Asian man greeted me. Seated in the adjacent dining room, I was the only diner until a couple showed up about a half hour later. The menu was robust, and I was hungry after a long drive from Downtown Pittsburgh. First I ordered the $6.50 Agedashi Tofu, which was not the traditional appetizer. It consisted of large wedges of deep-fried tofu covered with bonito shavings and accompanied by tempura sauce (Photo 9). It was pretty good with an emphasis on quantity. Portion was to be a recurring theme as my entree was the abundant $26.95 Sashimi Deluxe consisting of a dozen pieces of fish plus a tuna roll cut into six pieces (Photo 10). It was a decent variety of mostly thick slices of maguro, hamachi, and ebi. No salmon though and there were imitation crab sticks. The tuna roll was rather generic. Again I was impressed more by the quantity than the quality. Certainly plenty of wasabi and ginger. I didn't leave room for the complimentary miso soup (Photo 8) much less any notion of dessert. Their menu expands to poke bowls, yakisoba, and four different ramen bowls. They even offer General Tso's chicken and shrimp. That level of versatility is impressive, but it's been my experience that not everything can be well executed consistently. Regardless, if I was a local resident of Connellsville, I'm sure I'd be here a lot. The entry had a large dehumidifier running and it smelled like a sweaty jiu jitsu gym I ordered the spicy maki combo and a philly roll. I'm raising my review to a 2, up from a 1 at opening. The miso had greatly improved. Nothing special and certainly far from being great, but it was acceptable. The sushi was mushy and lacking flavor. The rolls lacked developed flavor and were mostly carried by heat. I removed the salmon from the philly roll. I highly recommend they find a better quality smoked salmon.

When we arrived (party of three), my husband and I ordered a small pizza and 12 wings, and our friend ordered a pot roast sandwich with wings. It took about 15 minutes just for someone to take our drink order. Our waitress explained there was a delay due to staff singing happy birthday, which we understood. After placing our food order, we waited another 20 minutes. Eventually, the kitchen brought out both orders of wings and the pot roast sandwich--but no pizza. When our waitress checked on us, we mentioned the missing pizza, and she explained it comes from a separate line and would be out later. That was fine, but no effort was made to check on it or follow up. We nearly finished all of our food, and still no pizza. Our waitress then returned with boxes and the check, asking if we needed anything else. At that point, I again mentioned the missing pizza. She rolled her eyes and repeated that it comes from a different line. By then, we were already done eating and no longer wanted it. What followed was extremely unprofessional. After we declined the pizza, she stormed off, removed it from the bill, then came back holding the pizza, dropped the check on the table, and said, "Well here it is--you don't want it?!" She then offered the pizza to a nearby table in an irritated tone. When I said I would be mentioning this in my review, she responded, "I don't know why you're so mad, I did nothing wrong." When I tried to calmly explain the situation from a customer perspective, she interrupted, put her hand up toward me, and said, "Whatever, I don't care, you're nasty." She then continued speaking negatively about us to coworkers within earshot. This was one of the most unprofessional dining experiences I've ever had. There was no apology at any point, no accountability, and no basic courtesy such as thanking us or acknowledging us when we left. The food was okay, but the service completely overshadowed the experience.
