Cute hyper local restaurant....came here 3 days in a row while in town for an event since it's the only sit down, full breakfast restaurant in the area (that we could find). My mom loves this place, and whenever I'm in town I always try to bring her. As a young girl she waitressed at the Hartley Inn, so for her there is a bit of Nostalgia held in its walls. For me, I love the place for people. The service is down to earth and fantastic, something which underscores the best part of Western P.A. Of course, Hartley Inn's charm is only surpassed by its down home cooking. Yup, I'm talking Grandma would be proud good. Although my mom hops around the menu, I always seem to settle on their delicious BLT. There is just something about this sandwich that I just can't shake; perhaps it semi-crisp bacon or that the tomato and mayo seem to merge with bacon and bread in a creamy, savory delight. Whatever the reason, I'm always down for a Hartley Inn BLT. I'm looking forward to our next visit to this iconic restaurant, a diner that has been serving up good drub since 1847!! read more

Happy to have found this place. Been quite awhile since I've had a real Hoagie and it was AWESOME. The zucchini fires were just the right mix of soft and crispy. Destiny and other staff are friendly and courteous. Love the look of the counter with the pedestal stools! Helpful with suggestions. Sadly we got there about 20 minutes before closing and would have loved to hang out longer. We were not rushed but wanted these folks to enjoy the day. Great Job, Hartley Inn!! read more

The Hartley Inn is a staple of the area. We have been going here ever since I can remember. Even after moving away from the area, it's still a place I go to, even if it's not the best. Recently I've went and had two very different experiences. I went for lunch and hated it and then went for breakfast and loved it. The lunch sandwich I ordered looked like something I made at home. The bread was to be toasted but was still white and not warm. The breakfast I ordered on a separate meal was delicious. The eggs were fresh, the toast was great and the bacon was cooked exactly how I like it to be. The service is always a bit slow, even if business isn't booming. The wait staff is always nice though. The food needs to be more consistent though in order not to lose business. The price points, for the area are great. At the end of the day, even if it doesn't change I'll still come here because it's tradition, I just wish it would try to step it up a notch. read more

We were on a family trip and asked our hotel clerk for a good, non-franchise place to eat. She recommended the Hartley Inn, which we found to be hilarious because we are from the town of Hartly, Del. The place was not busy, and we got to chat with some of the staff (including our waitress, MacKenzie, who was soon to graduate from high school). They all were great. The food came quickly and was fine (the onion rings were fantastic). My wife took a homemade cheesecake back to the hotel. They also offered a military discount of 15% (which I forgot to ask them to include on the check). There's no sign out front, so be sure to look for the place on the town circle, next to the Fox pizza place. Give the place a try. read more

I grew up in Carmichaels , went to Hartley Inn throughout my childhood and the food was always great. My favorite to this day is the coconut cream pie. My mother and I used to share a piece when I was a child and I have such fond memories. I moved to Texas and when I had my daughter we visited the Carmichaels area and I was glad to see Hartley Inn was still open and I was able to have a piece of coconut cream pie with my daughter. This was the worst meal I've had in a long time. The meatloaf was dried out, the "crab" stuffed cod was disgusting and missing the side. When informed the server after the meal we were told "Sorry". I love the history here. You feel it when you walk in. Home cooked meals that in my experience don't have a lot of consistency. I don't know if they have a high turnover with their cook staff but it seems like when I visit I'm always surprised at how different the same meal seems to be compared to when I had it 2 months prior. The Hartley Inn use to be THE place to go. Now it seems as though it's the place to go when nothing else is open or you don't want to drive far. The food use to taste like it was made from scratch, now most things just seem like pre packaged, heated food. Wait staff is friendly, but always very slow. Last time I was there I experienced an ant problem by the main window. I know things happen, the building is old and ants are one of those insects that are hard to get rid of. However it is a restaurant and should be kept insect free. I use to come here as a kid and drink hand made milk shakes and amazing blackberry shortcake when it was in season. Don't know what one reviewer means about bad wait staff we never had a bad experience and we dine there a lot...but anyone can have a bad day maybe even the reviewer. Food usually always good but there ARE certain cooks better than others as is anywhere.
