Shrimp Tom Yum
Mel M.

I like the photos with the menu. Nice lunch special selection. Some of the desserts sparked my interest. I gave it a go and ordered the Pad see ew. I enjoyed the portion size and taste. I also got the shrimp Tom Yum which was also good. A little spice with tart. Nice taste. Really enjoyed the mango sticky rice but I have to come back coz there's more items I didn't get to try. I didn't order an appetizer so I want to try those, more desserts and some of the speciality dishes. This is a nice casual Thai place but also perfect for take away. Mel M Yelp 23:12

Ordered to-go, service was okay. The person taking out order seemed very new and inexperienced so things were on the slower side but that's okay. Unfortunately my order was wrong and I didn't notice until I got home, I ordered a tofu pad thai and it ended up being a tofu fried rice. Tasted good but not what I wanted. Also got a tom kha chicken with the lunch special and that was flavorful and good. Pineapple fried rice was good too. Only other issue was a small egg shell in my rice. Mostly disappointed about the order being wrong, probably won't be returning anytime soon

The food is amazing and the lunch special with an item and a side is a great deal. Definitely check this place out if you are looking for some high quality and tasty Thai Food.

I was running errands when I drove past Khao San Thai, and was immediately in the mood for some Thai food. The dining area was modest, but was greeted warmly by a young woman. I was looking for a quick meal, so just green curry and Thai iced tea. The food came quickly, and tasted authentic. It felt like I was invited to someone's house for lunch. I ordered medium spice, and man was it spicy! It wasn't too much, but definitely left me sweating. The sweetness and creaminess helped balance out the spice. This is definitely going to be my go to Thai restaurant I was also impressed by the kindness of the staff. They went out of their way to help a distressed woman that entered the restaurant. Great food and great people, what more can you ask for.

Pad Thai

The food was delicious and big serving too! Staff is so friendly. Place is very clean and quiet.

First timers. This is the lunch portion Hot Basil with seafood. Comes with a choice of sides, several soups or salads. I chose the Tom Yum soup which comes with a shrimp. There.was a fantastic depth of flavor with a slight sweetness in addition to the usual flavors. Yes, this Tom Yum soup was delicious! Then there was the Hot Basil. Again, excellent flavors! A perfect balance with the shrimp, squid and deep fried fish perfectly cooked! My wife had the Pad Thai and she really liked it. $9.99 for lunch, soup and entree, with mine at $12.99. Fantastic prices for excellent Thai food!!! We started asking questions and now know why the food was to our liking. This is a sister restaurant of Basil Thai in La Mesa. Mom is the chef here in Santee with Dad and other staff at the other location. The chocolate Thai tea was wonderful as well. We will be back. Sooner than later. With all the Thai restaurants here and a change of ownership and flavors at another place in town this is our new go to. Will save us gas and is another reason to dine where we live, here in Santee.

Food: Spicy noodles, Pad see ew, Pad Thai and definitely the Tom Kah soup... everything was delicious! I do like good Thai food and this place did not disappoint! My wife said this is her new favorite place, and in East County nonetheless! Boba coffee and Thai tea were also good and decently sized. Atmosphere: The ONLY downsides are that you have to order at the counter and the place is a little small, so don't expect to be able to fit a large crowd inside. However, the restaurant looks fairly new and clean inside, so I would not even look twice at this "issue". Service: Our server was great, no complaints there. They were quiet inside, no blaring music or loud TV shoes or anything. They let us order, brought our food and they didn't even rush us out (even though they were closing at 9). Price: It's pretty middle of the road. A good meal is 15$ and add a drink, it can be about 20$. But like I always say, I'm not afraid to pay a little more if the food is worth it. So it's not dirt cheap, but I think the prices are fair. Overall: Great place, definitely a new favorite. The kids want to go back soon so... hopefully they stay open a while!

Hot basil

Ordered lunch from here. Was very good and ready on time. Had the hot basil with beef and the chicken pad thai. Hot basil was tasty with white rice. Broth was tasty. Even better soaked into the rice. Chicken pad thai was good as well. Will be ordering again.

Cute decor inside.

We were seated along the wall which had booth seating, which I prefer. For drinks I ordered a Thai tea no boba and the hubs a coke. We order the following items for dinner: Appetizers - - Crispy egg rolls - with pork (4 pieces) - served with veggies and fish sauce, these were tasty. - Salt pepper chicken wings - (8 pieces) they were a tad over fried but flavor was good. - Spring rolls - (2 pieces) with pork and shrimp, we ordered these Togo. Hubs enjoyed these for a late evening snack. Entrees - - Combination fried rice - chicken, shrimp and cha siu (Chinese bbq pork) I liked the flavoring of the fried rice - it was not bland, but I did mix in a tiny bit of hoisin sauce. - Pho rare steak - overloaded with green onions and cilantro. We always order pho but I really wasn't feeling it that evening, so it was all the hubs. If you love tons of green onions and cilantro, get it! The broth had a really strong flavoring of the cilantro. Overall dinner was fairly good. Seemed like there were regular customers that visited often. Staff were super nice and friendly. Parking lot was not packed at all. If in the area, I'd visit again. 2026: 7

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice. Oodles by the Noodbar has such a large and diverse menu so I would highly recommend coming in to try them out.

The service was excellent the moment we walked in and continued all the way until we left. The entire floor staff were friendly, attentive, and incredibly hardworking--especially as the dinner rush picked up. You could really see them hustling, but they never missed a beat. The food was just as impressive as the service. We started with the shrimp and beef spring rolls with fish sauce, which are always a must for us. For our mains, we ordered a variety of rice platter dishes including grilled shrimp, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, egg rolls, and a BBQ beef banh mi sandwich--everything was flavorful and satisfying. One thing that really stood out was our waiter, who memorized our entire order without writing anything down--very impressive! I also placed a to-go order for the #99 platter, and everything came out quickly and accurately. We were in and out in under an hour and a half, even during peak dinner time. When the service is exceptional everything else follows! Overall, a fantastic dining experience with great food and exceptional service!!!!

Then as I'm watching them work, the older guy is preparing the tins with spoons and places his fingers on the spoons and the sauce plates. As I'm watching him a young kid grabs a bowl to bring to a customer next to us and he uses his bare hand to wipe out the bowl, obviously seeing something in the bowl. And hands it to the customer. The health and safety board needs to indirect this place. The tables were wiped but you could still see grease remnants from left over food on the table. The lack of sanitary practices gets an " F" rating. It is obvious no one has a food handlers certificate. One plate came out and had to wait over 5 min for next plate to Come out. If you keep your eyes closed and don't watch what they are doing here, you probably think their food is great. We won't ever come here again.

So, I have ordered and even dined-in at this restraunt with my wife and kids for the past few…read moreyears. But tonight changed a lot of that. So, to start, my wife will occasionally get treated rather well at the restraunt; she was even given a few freebies while she was pregnant with our twins, so I usually thought rather well of this place, but every time I go, the treatment is different (maybe because I am not a tiny little Asian woman, who knows) but anyways, I go there tonight and I order roughly 120$ in food, and that's where things go south. First they charge me 1.50 for asking for my rice noodles without curry (my wife dislikes curry), which I am used to, but I think might offend them. From there, there is some confusion about my order. They almost forget one of my sides in the proccess, and forgot I ordered fried wontons, but again, that is NOT why I am leaving this review. I am leaving this review because of what happened in all this... So, to begin, I ordered off the menu because I wanted my food fresh, but still, they grabbed all our sides and two of my entrees right out of the to go bar; which would be fine EXCEPT the food on the menu is more expensive because it is FRESH, and not soggy or soft from sitting in a metal tray for like an hour and a half! The next thing that happens is while trying to find out about my wantons they: GO THROUGH MY FOOD. They literally touched all my fried items with ungloved hands while I am sitting there at the waiting table with them; trying to figure out their mistake like I was trying to steal food from them. The kicker being that they forgot to charge the wontons! So instead of being like: 'sorry about the inconvenience', they straight up go: 'oh hey, let us charge you for those after we touched all your food'. Needless to say, I was a bit aghast by all this, but what was worse than the service is the fact that the cook purposefully gave my wife bland unseasoned noodles because I asked for then with 'no curry' as if paying an extra 1.50 wasn't enough, they had to also be like: 'screw your taste buds for not liking our spices!' I mean, none of this was necessary, and it all felt pretty gross and rude by the end as I just took my food and left. All that said, my wife was pretty disappointed to hear about this and thinks we may need to find a new chinese place which really sucks. Yeah... but giving me old food, messing up my order, not preparing my food right (even after they charged extra for it), and touching my food makes me realize it's probably for the best. But hey, at least they remembered to charge me fried wontons, customer always comes last, you know?
