I live about 5 min walking distance from this place and drive past it all the time, but never ate there. A friend who is Afghan and has really good taste in just about everything he does recommended it. He said the guy that owns it, use to cook a Blue Ribbon cafe on Ridge ave. back in the day. I remember some of the food we had there, after drunken nights of partying and they were pretty damn good! We stopped in yesterday around 8pm, right about the time it started to get the weekend diners. We were seated by a cool, little old fella with a baseball cap that had a the brim flipped up. He took our order pretty quick and explained pretty fast, what some of the dishes were. It's hard for many people to understand what Indian people say but I have worked with quite and few and kinda got use to it. I am also married to a Puerto Rican and everyone knows that you have to listen carefully when they speak or you will miss a whole bunch...ha. Love you negra. We ordered the Frontier Chicken Rice, Frontier beef, and a side of Lentil and spinach (I forgot the name). My wife is not good with spicy food so we ordered it medium. The frontier beef definitely has to be spicy if not, it will not taste as good. I recommend you order anything Indian "spicy". The lentils and spinach, scooped up with the bread was delicious. The rice had good seperation and the chicken was thender. The beef was OK. I never pay to much attention to the service in restaurants that are not "American" in tradition. Different countries have different customs and we just have to deal with it. As long as the food is good, I am OK. It was about $30 including 2 sodas. You will have a big doggie bag to take home plus be completely stuffed when you walk out. Well worth it ,perfect for large groups and great for people watching. My wife was surprised to see a Indian pimp walk in with white fur coat, top hat and jewelry all over.....lol. I am not making that up at all. he has been around since I was a kid. read more

Authentic, Pakistani food always fresh and delicious. Whenever I'm in Devon this place is a must go to. Items to try- Bihari kabab Beef seekh kabab Tandoori chicken Chana masala For dessert, their kheer is off the chain as well! And end off your meal with their delicious kashmiri chai. A cup of pure pink awesomeness :D read more

We trekked over to Khan's from Evanston because of the Free Time Out Chicago Student Guide that we had picked up. It said that it was close, cheap and fantastic. While it was close enough, it was more than the "less than $6 a person" that Time-Out Chicago boasted, and it was more so the "around $11 a person and you're not entirely too satisfied". The food was good, but did not blow my socks off, and while it was a nice airy restaurant with an open grill (which was nice to watch) the service was slow, and the waiter was SUPER pushy. He kept on trying to make my party of three order more and more food, and even had the audacity to tell us what we were getting. "Oh, you'll get the Tandoori Chicken, you can have the Chicken Boti, and then you will have the etc..." Beyond that, our waiter only addressed my fiance (the only male at our party) and water refills, and a waiter to ask for our bill were basically non-existent. Come on Devon. You kind of made me never want to return. read more

Almost every single day for the past decade (plus) that I've been driving and/or a passenger in Rogers Park, I drive by Khan's BBQ. Honestly, how can you miss it? It's smack dab on the corner of Western and Devon, in the heart of Little India. What really brought me in, though, was the marquee. Ever since they got that sweet colorful sign, I just knew I had to eat there. Plus, a good friend and frequenter of Khan BBQ told me that the food was good. But I was hesitant because my friend's last name is, you guessed it, KHAN (no relation, or so he says). But really, the place is pretty big. I can imagine that it gets busy at night, particularly (and not be stereotypical or anything) after taxi shifts are over. I mean, I drive by late night often enough to see the place packed. That means one of two things: the owners have a lot of friends OR the food is legit. On a weekday afternoon, I finally caved into that flashy sign. The place was empty. Literally three people in there. But I supposed it's because it was early. Regardless, I was hungry, and ordered standard dishes: biryani, frontier chicken, and naan. It was...aight. I mean, it wasn't ballerific or anything. It was just good. The guy that was serving us was inattentive...except when he dropped the bill off. It was then that he started stereotyping me about my culture, telling me that he knew how to speak my language (I speak English and Spanish, btw). He showed me a Post-It with a story on it...and tried to translate it into my language. It was a token of remembrance that I chose to forgo. Will I be drawn back to the marquee sign? Maybe...not. We'll see. read more

Hands down by favorite place on Devon!! A few of my favorites are.. Tandoor Chicken Broast Chicken Tarqa Daal Chana Masala Chicken seekh Kabob Frontier Rice Everything is always fresh and delicious! The place is decent inside and service is pretty okay too. Would definitely recommend it for a family night out! read more

The food here is superb. Perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection. My 4 star rating is because of service the waiter was very jittery and did not attend to us in a timely manner. Perhaps this may have been just that one waiter but it was a part of our experience. I would go back since the food was delish! read more

Price is a big factor for me, and this is my favorite of the cheap Devon ave. Indian/Pakistani spots. There are no frills here, but the food is spicey and amazing. See this thread on the LTH forum for photos and lengthy descriptions: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4004 You must have the chicken boti and naan. The rest is up to you, just experiment! On my last trip here we had a pretty big group, about 10 of us, half Brazilian and half white. We definitely drew stares from the Indian clientele. In the middle of the meal it started pouring, at which point rain started dripping through the eves and onto the window sill, splattering the table. We used our water glasses to catch the drips, and had a good laugh. It's all about the food folks, and the experience just adds to the fun. read more

On a recent visit to Little India, we decided to have a late lunch at Khan's. At 4 p.m., it was nearly suppertime, but Khan's was bustling with two large families and smaller tables of friends. Guess there isn't a set time for BBQ. Upon entering Khan's, we were not greeted and there wasn't a host/hostess to assign us a table (a la XOCO). We proceeded to the takeout order counter, and were told to have a seat at a specific table. We seated ourselves and made eye contact with several waiters, but no one came to our table. We had taken two menus from the takeout counter, and had decided what we wanted to order. We took turns going to the restroom to wash our hands. Fifteen minutes later, I made eye contact with a waiter, and he came to our table. I ordered a kashmiri chai (pink tea with a milk base and garnished with chopped almonds),half a tandoori chicken, chicken seekh kabobs, two naans, and one tandoori roti. For three girls, this was more than enough food. We stuffed ourselves with the chicken tandoori and kabobs, and had more bread than we wanted to have left over. The naans are large plate-sized, so I would advise ordering one naan per person. The meat was flavorful and well-done-five stars for the meat. I would recommend the butter naan because the plain naan bread comes sans any butter. Khan's provides tamarind and cilantro-mint chutney for dipping sauces, and chopped onions, green lettuce, and tomatoes for accouterments. The kashmiri chai isn't much to write home about. It's novel because of its pink color, but it tastes like warm milk with chopped almonds. You add your own sugar. I docked a star because the service is not up to par. We had to wait 15 minutes for our order to be taken and take water glasses from an adjoining table to pour glasses of water from the water pitcher left on our table. ***Come here for the food, not the service.*** read more

Wow, I cannot believe some of the reviews of this place. This is one of the most tastiest Indo-Pak restaurants I have ever been to! The Chicken Biryani and the Chicken Boti and delicious. So is the Sag Ghost (I am probably spelling that wrong.) They use goat instead of lamb, which is not as gamey. The downside is the service is not the best, so get it to go. Other than that, this is a much cheaper alternative to some places on Devon and the food is better. One note, I have never tried any lunch platters or buffets. Instead, just try the dishes. Oh and I love the Frontier Chicken and the various meat rolls. Also, my vegetarian friend was not impressed with the chickpea dish, but the lentil dishes were good. So maybe not the best for any non-meat eating friends. read more

The food here is absolutely yummalicious - yes, it's a word to me! ;p When I first had that Lentil w/Spinach Daal (can't remember dish full name) about 2-3 years ago, I kept getting cravings to go back...didn't seem like that long, but you know time flies! :p Finally, get to come back here, place looks better & food is still oh so yummy!!! Plus, their waiter is pretty cool too! :) read more

This is one jewel that's not worthy of any praise. The food here was terrible. The buffet was inexpensive, but had a limited amount of choices. The food seemed stale and very bland. The service was okay..but the restaurant was in desperate need of a good scrubbing! read more

Decided to revisit this place for to go food order and so far so good. As expected, food is flavorful and fresh all while being consistent. I am still not sure if I am comfortable in dining in again but doing so just might be worth it considering how good their grill items are. I would highly recommended Seekh kabob for meat lovers and frontier rice. Their portions for grill items are fair sized and rice portions are massive. Over all good Pakistani style fresh BBQ option on Devon compared to most other places. read more

If you can get past the many smudges and fingerprints on the glass door, the interior is much cleaner than it appears from the outside. Our waiter was friendly but no where near on par in comparision to western standards. He was absent most of the time but was very responsive and informative once you got his attention. His white shirt and black pants looked professional. The house salad was fresh and crisp, the chicken boti was very good, the naan was warm and good as was the spinach- potato vegetable dish. However, the chicken got cold quite fast. Portions are exceptionally large and we had to go packages for later. My advice, wash the front door often! Windex works wonders! Curb appeal means alot for outsiders wanting a good, interesting and unique Pakistani meal. read more

We read about the place on Muslim eater with a pretty good review. However when we sat down to eat, it wasn't that special. The decor was very canteen like and seem pretty dated. The restaurant did have baby chairs available, upon request of asking from the waiter. The service was really good fast and efficient. Now down to the actual food we ordered tandoori food, most of the Kebab's were really spicy we had to actually ask them tone down the spice for our baby. The one kebab we really did enjoy was the Behari kebab, spicy again but very tasty. Overall a okay restaurant wouldn't really visit again. read more

What a fantastic lunch I had here today. My brother and I ordered chicken boti (beautifully cooked and spiced, with perfect amount of tandoor char on the outside), seekh kabab (beef, wrapped around skewers and grilled), both onion and garlic naan (the best I've had in Chicago), and a chana masala that was fresh and delicious with identifiable spice flavors (not over-creamed and mysteriously and mustily spiced like many other spots). Service was attentive and friendly from the second we walked in the door; I daresay our waiter would happily have given a symposium on the menu if we had asked. Overall, an excellent spot: the most enjoyable meal I've had on Devon Avenue. read more

I have been to this restaurant on many occasions. Food here is usually on point. There can be some inconsistencies but there are always some menu items that are well made such as Daal Fry, tandoori chicken, broast chicken and seekh. Place is pretty informal so don't expect any fancy treatment but if you want good quality Paki food this place will not disappoint read more

Went here last year with a group of friends, and I have to say I don't remember much. Why? FOOD COMA. Best food coma ever! Seriously, the four of us each ordered a different dish (one got a biryani because we thought ahead) and all four of us rolled home with left overs and a deep appreciation for these guys' ability to cook meat. I don't remember the exact dishes (there was definitely a chicken kabob involved somewhere, and the aforementioned biryani) but I remember being stuffed, happy, and carting a lot of left overs home. Definitely need to go back! read more

Best Restaurant at Devon. This place may not have the ambience but who cares when the food is so delicious. Some of the dishes that we have had that are great are: Mutton Biryani Chicken Biryani Seekh Kebab (ask them to roll it in paratha) Tandoori Chicken The food is cheap and delicious. With the tandoor up in the front so you can see them cooking your meat. The service is typical service at any Indian/Pakistani restaurant, but I personally find the people very friendly. read more

We were recommended by a lot of folks to try this place, they said there's something about their taste... Well I don't know what to say because we are greatly disappointed. We ordered chicken boti, tandoori fish, beef and frontier chicken rolls and chicken broast. The only thing that we liked were the Parathas. No jokes. The food had no taste. We tried to make it work with chatnis and Raita, but failed miserably. read more

Yo This place is Awesome! Everything on the menu has a great flavor. My Favz Frontier Chicken with rice, Dal palak (spinach), Bhindi(okra), Tandoori Chicken and all the rice. We have been to Khan BBQ a few times and the food is okay, but this last time that I was there while my parents were in town we were over charged by $40. The service is average, and that particular weekend that they were in town it was super hot, and there was no a.c. on just a fan in your face blowing hot air. Our bill came and I saw a perplexed look on my husbands face and he asked to see the what the server wrote down for the order only to find scribbles. He didn't want to make a scene as my parents were there, we were able to dispute the charge after. I'm not sure what type of shady business tactic this is but we will not be back. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect since reviews are mixed, but our group of 14 people really enjoyed our big meal here! One of the best frontier chicken dishes available in this part of the city. Servings are large but the place can be crowded on weekends. This place is also found in the new app on the Android market that provides data about the popular destinations with in this special (2 mile) stretch of Devon Avenue. It has info on the restaurants, shops, public access system, libraries etc on Devon Avenue. It is called "Devon Guide" and is now available for free on Google Play. Here is my honest review for this place. We ordered :- 1) chicken Karahi. Horrible it was more like chicken curry and the waiter keep giving me excuses 2) Kashmiri Tea :- made with soda mixed etc. totally not worth it. 3) Regular tea :- definitely the best tea I've had it in Devon even better than tahoora. 4) half chicken tikka ;- it was ok but I have had better ones. 5) seekh kabob:- it was also good but not great. So overall if you ever go there then do not order the first 2 items and if you are thinking of getting the best tikka or broast out there then definitely go somewhere else. read more

This place was great - open kitchen and clean. A very family oriented environment. The service was good and the staff were very nice. The Bihari Kabab is awesome and the Karahi Chicken was very good. The biriyani wasn't very good, especially in comparison to the other things we ordered. I recommend going karahi or grilled dishes. I'd go again. read more

So this place may look kind of shady, but it makes up for it in its food! We ordered naan and kabob, and they were surprisingly really fresh! The chicken seekh kabobs were really good, had an authentic smokey tandoori taste to them. The naans were amazing! So fresh and soft, I could eat 10 of them by themselves. The service was great, until we asked for the check. We waited a solid 10 minutes to get someone's attention and get the check. However, when we got the check, we were treated with complementary fennel seeds. Had a very good experience here. Make sure you also get some of their mango lassi, it's so good! read more

Shame on you Khan BBQ. Shame on you. All you had to do was be honest and not shady. That's it. We came here for dinner and found the atmosphere to be underwhelming (which we don't care about), the service to appear to be decent (I'll explain later), and the food - pretty good. We were content and as I often ask my wife upon finishing up dinner, "would you come here again? I think I would". Then the bill came. It was the bus boy who brought it. He seemed to nervously hover over us while we reviewed it. The bill was not really a bill. It was the "ticket" that the server wrote our order on. It was illegible and more expensive than we were expecting. We could not figure out how we ordered $31 worth of food, and the bill was for $39. There were two of us...did they really charge gratuity for two people? So, I asked the bus boy/helper who brought us the bill if gratuity was added. I think I actually asked, "did you already include the tip or add some charge?" He answered, "no"...and pointed to some numbers. When I told him that it wasn't right, he went to get the server. So, the server came over and tried to explain to me that Chicago has 11% tax, etc., etc. When I asked him if there was gratuity included, he again pointed to the tax as if it were to add up. I explained to him that it still didn't add up, and that there are some additional charges on here. Thus, he FINALLY admitted that they added a 15% charge for the kitchen help. WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! I asked him, "why didn't you tell me you charge a fee for the kitchen help, and why isn't that on the menu?" He offered back that it was common on Devon Ave. I called B.S. - I eat on Devon Ave. every now and again and I HAVE NEVER heard of such a thing. I basically called him out and told him that it was extremely dishonest and wrong, but for some stupid reason I opted to pay it and instead withheld the tip. It would be one thing if a restaurant charges gratuity, and spells it out on an itemized bill. This is NOT the case, they hand you chicken scratch and hope that you'll overlook it....thus, the nervous busboy watching to see if they could get away with it. Appalling. It's a damn shame and a constant reminder that there are bad people out there who will do anything they can to make some extra bucks. read more
