Whenever I visit Chicago, this restaurant is a must-go for me--no matter what, the moment I step into Chicago, I have to eat here. Absolutely the best dum ki biryani you can get. I only get take out as it's always packed and difficult to find parking. The inside of the restaurant is simple, cafeteria style with no decor. Finally making my way from Milwaukee heading to Chicago with the MKE Yelper (2/18/20). I wonder if we'll get to the urban core with time to explore before hotel check-in and our Alinea reservation. Ordered chicken 65 as an appetiser. Not a very healthy or hygienic dish, but satisfies cravings for having an accessible alternative of Indian Street style chicken 65. Ordered chicken biryani for the main course. It is a plate of stale food, definitely not freshly made. We visited on a weekend, when there is supposed to be a high demand, but was still served stale food. very bland and the flavours are over powered with the smell of kewra jal, of which I am not a big fan of. My favorite at this restaurant is the Lamb Biryani, Chicken Biryani and Goat Haleem. The Haleem is super and goes very well with their Paratha. Their parathas are quite heavenly - very light and not doughy at all. Another great item on the menu is Chicken Paratha - chicken comes on the side, it is like tawa masala chicken but some of the best chicken you will ever have. Also, Mango Lassi - quite authentic, must try! Some things that you should now - Place is not a fine dine, it is a no nonsense help yourself kinda place. Do not go if you are looking to have a great ambience. Staff is very nice and prompt and once you are a regular, they treat you like family. Service is very fast - even if you dine in, you can expect to be out in flat 20mins. There is limited parking, so you may have to find street parking. I am a big fan of hyderabadi biryani. My friend from work told me about this place because she's from Southern India and her husband lived in Hyderabad when he was in highschool. They think this was one of the most authentic places to get hyderabadi biryani. So we came here on a Saturday when they just opened. We asked for menus, and the owner said because they just opened, there are only three items to choose from--chicken biryani, lamb biryani, or dahl biryani. I like that! I am all about specialization in one type of food, so my expectation instantly went up a level. We got two chicken biryani, because my friend said they give you a lot of food, so for three people, two birayani is more than enough. They gave a small dish of vegetables (cucumber, onions, and carrots), a small bowl of yogurt - to counter the spiciness of the biryani, and a small bowl of some special sauce - per my friend, that's the indicator of authenticity of this place, because only real hyderabadi places can make sauce like this, and it's to be added to biryani if it's not spicy enough for you! The biryani was very nicely flavored, the chicken in there was very tender because they use chicken drumsticks. Really great food. I had some sort of chicken dish in a tomato sauce. It was amazing. The owner helped me to choose a nondairy option. the menu items were very foreign to me and I had no idea what to choose. My fiance had a mutton dish and said it was delicious. The place was a bit unimpressive from the outside, but I peeked in the window and saw that it was fine. Clean with tablecloths on the tables and a sizable dining area. Owner was very friendly and explained how the restaurant had suffered greatly due to covid. My fiance and I were the only customer's there. Hope they survive because the food is incredible. Lots of food at a good price. I got the regular meal with some type of chicken curry. It was bright red, so it was a little off-putting at first, but the sauce was extremely delicious. My friend ordered the biryani and loved it. Huge meal for $7.99. Great deal and great service. It's interesting how this place has the "family" side across the street from the "men"'s side. According to my indian friend, the "men's" side is just for the men. So if you are women, or a family, you are supposed to go to the family side. Anyhow, i respect their culture :) but just found it interesting that they practice it to such small detail in the States :) As for the food, I love briyani (the saffron rice cooked with chicken, or beef or lamb). But i know there are a lot of prep work going into this dish, and a lot of indian restaurants just mix the meat together wtih the saffron rice and add some raisin and nuts (depends on which regions of india this briyani is based off of), but this place's tasted similar to what i had in Hyderabad. :D o..how i miss the indian food there.. read more
