I used to come here a lot when I was pursuing my master's in the United States. Whenever I visit Chicago, this restaurant is a must-go for me--no matter what, the moment I step into Chicago, I have to eat here. The chicken biryani, haleem--you name it, we used to eat everything here! My buddies and I were always happy with this place. When my mom and dad came all the way from India to the United States, I took them here, and they enjoyed the food too. But this time, I ordered the goat biryani, and it had no taste at all. I don't know what's going on, but it was so disappointing. I got frustrated--I couldn't even finish one, and it was overly salted. This place used to be my favorite, but this time, I was really disappointed.

Mutton Haleem & Goat Biryani!

Had the best Hyderabad goat biryani in years. Brought back all the flavors from Hyd! Highly recommend this spot for their biryani, haleem, and more. Chai was okay, but the food is a must try!

Finally making my way from Milwaukee heading to Chicago with the MKE Yelper (2/18/20). I wonder if we'll get to the urban core with time to explore before hotel check-in and our Alinea reservation. Getting into that hangry mode again. My fault for not keeping high energy protein bars at the ready. Park then walk to this highly touted location of tasty eats, Hyderabad House. My immediate assessment was it was a classic hole in the wall with uninspiring interior and rather dour counter staff and emotionless clientele spread out at various tables. I ate what was ordered. It was decent. Just the overall environment was much to be desired. It just seemed to have such potential, but came across as meh. Enough said.

My biggest regret is not getting food here. I came and tried their chai. Best chai in the world. I don't need to say anything. It's $1 and some change for the BEST chai. Also mango lassi. Are you kidding me? Phenomenal. Incredible.

Chicken Dum Biryani

Ordered chicken 65 as an appetiser. Not a very healthy or hygienic dish, but satisfies cravings for having an accessible alternative of Indian Street style chicken 65. Ordered chicken biryani for the main course. It is a plate of stale food, definitely not freshly made. We visited on a weekend, when there is supposed to be a high demand, but was still served stale food. very bland and the flavours are over powered with the smell of kewra jal, of which I am not a big fan of. The mirchi ka saalan is cold and did not help improve the taste. Final verdict, biryani , not recommended.

Hands down the best Biriyani in Chicagoland. I come to this place driving 45 mins every weekend to get Chicken Biriyani. Syed bhai is always cheerful and suggests the best curry like Dumka Chicken. My wife's favorite is Chicken Masala. My friend & I just tried the mutton fry with mutton Biriyani. Wow! Even better.

Got mutton biryani and it had 3 pieces of meat that wasn't close to being tender. Awful ambiance.

I arrive within twenty-one minutes buying only a quarter's worth of time at the parking meter thinking surely that would be enough time to grab my carryout order? Guys, why was I waiting an additional twenty minutes for food when nobody was in this restaurant? I hate when a restaurant draaaaaaags without giving any reasons. Thali shops have literal fast food. Not in the American sense but the foods are as simple as crepes (dosa) served with chutney. The other items would need more time. Curries, biriyani, etc Ordered an onion dosa and a masala dosa. Texture was different from what I'm accustomed to eating. But I'm wanting something similar to South Indian style. The onion dosa contained what looked like a full, medium sized onion. In Southie style it should be pan fried till brown, sometimes incorporated into the dosa or stuffed inside, this was barely translucent. Didn't slap. The masala dosa was mid. Didn't touch much. Hate throwing away food but.. Not wasting the stomach on barely good. Something about the texture of the dosa wasn't... It just wasn't good. One and done. If a restaurant offers dosa, it's gotta be great. Maybe their other foods are better?

This is a no thrills joint serving Indian cuisine. If you're looking for a casual and authentic…read morebite, this is the spot for you. I heard they made great Chicken Biryani, but unfortunately they were out when I went. Something I don't think is talked enough about though is their chai - the best I've had in Chicago. Again, this isn't a classic sit down restaurant so don't expect to be waited on as attentively as you would somewhere less chill, but the staff was super nice nonetheless.

You literally cannot beat the prices for the portion size. Everything had great flavor, and even me…read more(who can't tolerate spice well) found myself going for more. I really enjoyed their roti. I didn't see it on the menu but they accommodated when I asked!

It is difficult to find the exact words to tell you how much I love Ghareeb Nawaz…read more We live in a world where a burger and fries at a fast food joint costs somewhere around $10. Some focus on Instagram-ability instead of quality, and others dump a man versus food size portion in front of you in an effort to show "Hey! Look! vAlUe!!" while the quality is AWOL. Ghareeb Nawaz delivers across the board. The portions are massive, enough for three-ish lunches, even if you're perpetually as voracious as I am. The quality is excellent - meats are consistently tender, rice is cooked perfectly, and the spices bloom into the nose, the palate, and the heart. As for value, the $13 realistically comes out to less than $5 per, $3.25 if you aren't as gluttonous as myself. Not only that, cans of soda are $1.50, and the bank machine is also $1.50 (something I haven't seen even 10 years ago). When it comes to the service, it is imperfect, but efficient. There are no unnecessary pleasantries; it is a "hello, what do you want" sort of deal. If you didn't realize it was cash only? The order is placed, here is the receipt, the cash machine is over there. The small change I would offer is to have order numbers (which, I appreciate might be challenging with a cash-only establishment). When items leave the kitchen, the runner yelling out the order can bring up the question 'is this me?' Order numbers would be better. Service like this has to be earned, and I assure you Ghareeb Nawaz has earned it. Final verdict: For an establishment to have a rough-around-the-edges, surly nature and be successful, it has to earn it. I can think of no example more perfect than Ghareeb Nawaz. The quality is top-notch, the value is unmatched, and the nonsense is chucked out the window. Order - pay - devour with glee. What are you doing still reading, set your GPS already!

We ordered a lot of food including goat biryani, chicken Kashmiri and highway goat Karahi. To our surprise goat Karahi was really skimpy quantity and when we started eating it almost90% of the goat pieces were all bones with very little flesh remain it. Together with the skimpy quantity and all boney pieces we were very disappointed. Chicken Kashmiri was of pretty good taste. We ordered a card different naans and some were left uncooked. Goat biryani was simply terrible and very very mediocre to bad taste. We also ordered a chicken kabob and they were so undercooked that we had to call them and we asked about it. They said they would replace it but we were not interested because we were so disappointed. Overall we are very disappointed Go try other options of similar food all around Devon Ave. Bundoo Khan is way overrated and we will not be going there again.
