The people here are extremely rude. They don't take any car with food presentation. Basically miserable place to eat!

Nothing but AMAZING…read more... From the outside, the place and neighborhood we were a little worried being from out of town. We were happily greeted and shown our booth. Once our server, Nicole, came we asked her a few questions about the menu which she answered and made her recommendations. Once our apps were brought out, she brought us a small strawberry orio shake to welcome us in for the first time. -The cheese curds, A+ soft, great batter. -Cup of chili with cheese. B+. The only critique of the evening is the hamburger was not seasoned. There was huge chunks of burger in the chili, which is great but if the meat would have had more seasoning it would have tasted better. -fried chicken is out of this world. Skin was slap your momma one time and once you bite into the meat, the chicken is so juicy it makes you want to slap your moms twice. I have never and I hope my mom and grandma don't read this but I have never had fried chicken this good. I thought I had good fried chicken frowning up in the South. -mushroom Swiss burger, burger is 1/4 lb and not the supposedly 1/4 lb like MCDs tries to pass off. This guy was huge. I asked for extra pickles and this is the the first place that instead of throwing 2-3 extra pickles on, they put a row of pickles on each side of the beef. Every time I come to anchorage from now on, this will be one one place I always come.

Small scoop of fries and then a cornbread muffin. Muffin was good with some butter I had to put on at home. Staff seemed tired but my food was ready in about 12 minutes from the time I placed my order.

Pros: -Great food, although occasionally the portions can be a bit small for the large price of a meal (roughly 25-35 for a plate and drink) -Welcoming service, the older lady who tends to be behind the counter is very polite and asked throughout the meal if it was too our liking, which was appreciated. Cons: -Location, this can be a big deal for those with young children or single individuals. There were countless homeless people and it is situated right next to a gas station on a main road. Although I blame the City of Anchorage for this problem. Do not let this turn you away from a visit, just be smart! -Service time, this definitely shouldn't be treated like a fast food outing, it took about 15-20 minutes from order to get served and we had to go to the counter in order to get the dessert we had ordered. Not the worst thing in the world and they do humorously have a sign on the front saying that it will be a bit of a wait for food because it's all made in house. Wasn't a big problem for me but for those looking for a quick meal might not be ideal!

The employee shook his head to indicate they were closed. It took a few weeks but I made my back on Thursday afternoon. And the experience was solid. I started with the chips and salsa. I'm noticing a trend of some places charging for their chips and salsa. What's weird is the places with the most authentic chips often have one complimentary basket. And places like this with a price tag have the store bought variety. But the salsas were delicious (and the hot was even spicy!). I asked for a second mild salsa since the containers were pretty small. The tacos were good. I went for a carne asada and a Birria. The carne asada was on point. Hot and tasty without being salty. The Birria was a bit dry. The cheese helped a little. I removed one of the tortillas and dipped it in the salsas to get a little moisture to it. It made me wonder if consommé is not a norm for Birria. The restaurant was spotless and very nicely apportioned. Lots of seating for a place that looks so small from the outside.

The pictures online looked amazing, the menu looked streamlined and neat. Upon entering it is a super cute place and decorated very nicely. We enjoyed the artwork on display. Everything looked nice and clean, 8/10. Service was attentive and great. She was very quick and polite. No complaints here whatsoever! The food.... We were going to order calamari ($20) to start, but they were out. That's OK! No big deal. I decided we could just start with chips and salsa. This is not a free with your meal chips and salsa like other places but it's a reasonable $5. We received a big basket of tortillas and I enjoyed both red red mild and green hot salsas. The chips were good too. I ordered the chalupa plate ($21) and it came with two chalupas filled with chicken/potato and a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. I liked that it was refried black beans. I got through my first chalupa, moving the lettuce aside to check it out. I noticed my chicken was pre-packed type chicken slices. You know, the kind with "grill" marks you find at Costco that are ready for salads and already cooked. My heart sank. For the price point I was seriously expecting more. It is not difficult to roast chicken fresh and shred it for dishes... My partner ordered the burrito special ($25) and while it was a MASSIVE thing that could feed you 3x easily it was subpar to him he told me later in the car. While I did not partake in dessert I did check out the little menu on the table. While I know the odds of desserts being made in house are low, I always hope so. The desserts here are from Sweet Street Desserts which is a wholesale chain, so I passed. I'm sure they are tasty, but just not for me when going out to eat. Unfortunately I don't think this place is worth the cost of the food vs the quality. They would need to up their food quality and freshness game to bring us back...

There has been a need for a good BBQ restaurant in Anchorage for many years and now we finally have one. Arctic Smokehouse BBQ is located off of Boniface and the Glenn Highway down the road from the entrance to Elmendorf Air Force Base at a strip mall in the former That Wing Place. The employees I met were super friendly and helpful. The interior of the dining room is essentially the same from previous ownership albeit a few more tables added and all the booths removed. The salad bar is still in place and TVs playing sports adorn the walls everywhere. I went up to the counter to place an order. I decided to go with the 1-lb Brisket Plate with Collard Greens and Todd's Cowboy Beans with Brisket for the sides. The wait was relatively short as the brisket was readily available and the sides were served from a cafeteria-style set up. Honestly, I have not had brisket this tender and flavorful since going to the Q-Shack restaurant in Raleigh, NC. This was one of the best BBQ meals I have had in recent memory. The takeout menu details smoking all of their meats over a Texas hardwood called Post Oak. The Poultry, Pork Ribs, and Sausages are smoked over two types of wood: Post Oak and Hickory. I love how they include the burnt ends with a little bit of fat. Other BBQ restaurants past and present here in town usually discard that which is a disappointment since that is where all of the flavor comes from. The sides were also delicious. Todd's Cowboy Beans with Brisket can be a meal in itself if served in a large bowl, but the sliced meats are the shining stars on the menu. There is also a large selection of BBQ sauces at a separate stand by the salad bar. The options are impressive from Texas Red Raspberry or Blackberry to Smoky to Alabama White to homemade sauces like Bill's BBQ. A large bottle selection of hot sauces are available to the right of the BBQ sauces on a separate stand. There are plenty of items in the menu I will be trying in future visits. This includes the Pork Belly Grilled Cheese Sandwich, the BBQ Bacon Ranch Chicken Wings, the Sliced Alaska Reindeer Sausage Sandwich, the Stuffed Twice Baked Potatoes with Pulled Pork, and the Banana Pudding. Prices are relatively higher for some dishes including the brisket but it is well worth it especially when the brisket is USDA Prime grade. Family packages for large groups and catering for office parties or other events are also available. I forgot to ask whether the NFL Sunday Ticket was available for Sunday games with the amount of TVs they have. If so, this will be a regular spot for football on the weekends, but my only place for BBQ here in Anchorage.
