We dined here 4/17 for my in-laws 50th anniversary dinner party. We chose this restaurant based on reviews and so glad we did. We all truly enjoyed dining here! Delicious food and drinks, beautiful decor, and wonderful staff!! Making the Resy reservation was really simple. I reserved for 5 initially and later needed to update to 12. You must call for parties larger than 9. I spoke to host Erin who quickly updated the headcount for me. He was also the first welcoming face we saw when we walked into the restaurant and walked us to our table. Timothy, our waiter, was knowledgable of the menu, wines and cocktails. He was patient with our menu questions and made great food suggestions. Only regret was that we did not ask the owner to come over for a picture with the anniversary guests of honor when we saw him. Maybe next time, as we have said we can't wait to dine here again!

Wow! I had friends tell me this was their favorite stake house in ATL. I was skeptical about the juxtaposition of upscale + beltline chaos and how that would mix. We ate inside. They incredibly accommodated our party on a Saturday night-- Wow-- as we grew from 3 to 8 throughout the week. We really appreciate it. The service was impeccable... really I'd say that the entire experience can be described as "unpretentious (ie Not-Stuffy) high-end (luxury)". That applied to the amazing server we had as well as the overall ambiance that they strike. It was full (especially outside), but not crowded at all. And intimate though still spacious. All of these competing tensions feel difficult to strike simultaneously in a high-end steakhouse! Loved it! Of course our steaks were perfect, but the sides were the differentiator. We tried nearly one of everything, but I can't pick a fav. All I CAN say is that they were ALL worth it!

We tried Kevin Rathbun's last night, 5/5, highly recommend. Parking was easy with complimentary valet (they work on tips). We didn't have cash, but they do accept tap/cashless tips. We had reservations, arrived about 20 minutes early, and were seated immediately. The restaurant is dimly lit, but not overly dark like some "moody" spots. Reggie was our waiter and was extremely helpful and friendly, if he's available, definitely request him. We started with the Lobster Fritters and the Japanese BBQ Wagyu Short Ribs. The short ribs came as four small pieces, but they were tender, flavorful, and worth trying. The fritters were much larger, with a perfectly crispy exterior without being overly heavy or greasy. The accompanying sauce was a great balance of zesty and sweet. Then the main event: the Dry-Aged Porterhouse for Two. At 22 oz, it was perfectly cooked (medium), with a slight char on the outside and tender, juicy meat inside. We added the truffle butter, which was a perfect complement. The sides were also delicious and large enough to share. We had the Charred Jalapeño Creamed Corn and the Macaroni and Cheese. The longer the mac and cheese sat on the table, the thicker the sauce became, but it was still rich, flavorful, and something I'd absolutely order again. The women's restroom was clean and well lit.

Absolutely fab experience! Valet is a few dollar or tip only I cannot recall, but the team there was quite nice and set the tone. It's right off the beltline -- I believe you can self park but not certain. I started with the salad (they don't have fresh anchovies). I found it to be just okay (2/5) and I've had some really good ceasar salads. We each offered ribeye steaks, fries (super large portion), and Brussel sprouts. I ordered my steak medium but it was cooked medium well hence why i took a star off. My mom ordered her's medium well and hers came out fine. The service was okay but not exceptional for a restaurant of this caliber - our server wasn't as attentive. I found the prices to be reasonable for the quality of the food.

Only in town long enough to pick one good spot to fine dine and she left it up to me. Kevin Rathbun Steakhouse was in my ATL bookmarks, so let's give them a spin! K.R.S hit on all cylinders! From the $2 valet, which absolutely blows me away coming from DC, where $20 is a bargain, to the warm welcome by the friendly staff, once you step in. This restaurant is gorgeous and has the best light fixtures! Yes, I'm a light guy.. Lol! Now to the food. My lamb chops were perfect. Charred outside and tender inside.. Mouthwatering! She loved her filet even though she likes hers damn near burnt.. Smh!!! Service was outstanding. Our server was fully engaged and took pride in his craft. I will look for him again when I return! K.R.S is located in a cool part of town with a lot of nice shops and surrounded by a walking/jogging path. I'm glad we had a chance to experience K.R.S on our short trip but it most definitely won't be our last!

Japanese BBQ Wagyu Short Rib

I was excited to try this restaurant from the reviews and was not impressed. The short ribs had a lot of sauce over it and was overwhelming and over powered the short ribs. That flavor of the sauce in the short ribs was strong and for some reason that flavor was not for me. I would give the short ribs a 3.5 out of 10. The steak was decent had an ok flavor and surprisingly under flavored. The steak gets a 7.5 however it was very tender. The twice baked potatoes was ok 6.5. Service was ok, he wasn't rude but was checking on me he got a 8 of 10, I was at the bar eating by the way and it was super crowded elbow to elbow. Bill was $108. I hate that I didn't enjoy like I was hoping.

Oysters

We started with oysters, and they were fresh, cold, and clean. Definitely worth getting. For dinner, everything came out hot and beautifully plated. The lamb chops were tender and full of flavor. The halibut oscar style was so good. The fish paired well with the sauce. The sides were the stars though. The creamed spinach was velvety and seasoned perfectly, and the mac and cheese was creamy. The scalloped sweet potatoes were my favorite. The atmosphere is dim, warm, and romantic. Service was on point the entire night. Attentive but not overbearing.

I've been wanting to try Kevin Rathbun's for a while and finally had the opportunity to check out this modern chophouse on Friday night! It's right off the beltline, so super easy to get to. The outside has an industrial vibe, while the inside is moody and stylish. They offer $4 valet, which was convenient. My husband and I sat in the cellar area. It's cozy and charming. Our server greeted us and was really helpful, explaining everything about the menu, along with the specials. We started with the complimentary bread service and cocktails. My husband went with the KRS Signature Old Fashioned, and I tried the barracuda. Both drinks were strong and delicious. For food, we shared the sampler appetizer -- a great way to try a little bit of everything. It included lobster fritters, Japanese BBQ Wagyu short ribs, and 'Thick Cut' bacon. The short ribs were definitely the highlight for us! For the main course, we split a 10oz ribeye with bleu cheese butter, along with macaroni and cheese and Brussels sprouts. Everything was fresh, hot, and soooo good -- just the right amount for sharing. Honestly, I can't believe I waited so long to try KRS, but I'm glad I finally did. If you've been thinking about trying them, don't hesitate any longer, just do it!

Shani H.

Came here for dinner after strolling the beltline. We sat at a table by the bar and walk-in was easy. We tired the short rib skewers, foie gras and a side sampler (not on the menu). I didnt love the foie gras but everything else was delicious. I'd definitely come back and try a few more items.

Natasha W.

My husband and I had a great experience celebrating our wedding anniversary at Kevin Rathbun. It's perfectly located on the Beltine. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. Bonus: they have a great full length mirror in the women's restroom. The service is excellent. They went above and beyond to make us feel special. The menu has such a wide range of options. We started with the spinach & roasted beet salads. Our mains were a 10oz ribeye, salmon filet dish, brussel sprouts, buffalo cauliflower, and twice baked potatoes. We enjoyed loved everything with exception of the twice baked potato. We'd try another side the next time around. Another bonus: The offer half sizes on salads and side, what a game changer. You can count on us being back!

Came here on a Saturday night with a group of 5 for a birthday. The restaurant is beautiful, staff is attentive, and the food is standard steakhouse fare. The restaurant is dimly lit and clearly a fancy date spot. It feels a little too generic to me when there are so many more unique options in Atlanta. Glad I went though!

Lobster Fritters
Greta Z.

It was premeditated...for nearly two decades. We'd save up. We'd splurge. We'd be gluttonous, and I'd eat gluten. We'd need to repent after all the indulgence. And so we did it...for his birthday. We ate at one of the best steakhouses in the country. So rich and delicious, it felt sinful. Someone may have whispered a curse word. Someone blushed with remorseless shame. It was THAT good: the bread fingers with cheese and herbs and butter, the delectable bone marrow scraped onto buttery toast and topped with lemony arugula - OMG, the outrageous lobster fritters, the dry-aged ribeye with peppercorn gravy, the delicate filet with blue cheese butter, the charred jalapeño creamed corn, the lobster risotto, and the citrus cheesecake. The stuffed-to-bliss smiles lingering over steaming cups of coffee after the feast: this night will remain with me for years to come. The restaurant was beautiful and the service perfection! Top tips: definitely get the bone marrow and lobster fritters and filet with blue cheese butter. The sides and dessert were good, but I'd like to try something different.

Been wanting to come here for years and finally made it this week for my birthday! It was fantastic. Excellent atmosphere, service and food. The steak was fantastic! The only thing I didn't love was the corn but it wasn't bad either. Also having parking can't be understated for a restaurant in Atlanta. You definitely need to go!

Lobster fritters were delish!

Ask the Community - Kevin Rathbun Steak

My husband and I are considering this place for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner. Are same-sex couples made to feel welcome here? Thanks

Absolutely! They welcome all....

What is the dress code?

Dressy casual! Definitely not an athleisure type of venue.

Does this restaurant accept reservations ? If so, how can one make a reservation? It appears that the website isn't working.

They do accept reservations. We made ours over the phone.

Would you recommend dining the the Cellar or MDR?

MDR. It depends on what you like. The cellar is basically downstairs.

What is the dress code?

The dress code is business casual.

What are the prices like?

Kevin Rathbun Steak is one of the most prestigious steakhouses in Atlanta. Therefore expect top-level prices. It's worth it, though.

Is this place good for a group birthday dinner?

Absolutely. The food is amazing and the staff works hard to add to the celebration. You can even bring your own cake and they will serve it.

Do you accept American Express credit card? We have reservations to celebrate a 40th birthday, is cocktail attire going to be overdressed, and can we bring a birthday cake or do you have a special birthday dessert

Ye they do accept amex. cocktail attire is very appropriate. You should be able to bring your own cake. Their desserts were only "ok".

Can my husband wear nice shorts for dinner?

Yes

We were there celebrating our engagement, and they made it feel so special by decorating our table with rings and confetti to celebrate our love. Our server gave us so much attention and made the experience feel personal. Since it was our first time there, they took the time to walk us through some of the best items on and off the menu, and shared their favorite dishes. Everything was done with care. The restaurant was clean, the bathroom was amazing, and the food was worth every dollar. The short rib was so tender, and the New York strip was seasoned to perfection and cooked medium well just how we like it. The twice-baked potato loaded with bacon, sour cream, chives, and cheese was delicious, and the mac and cheese was so good. I also appreciated that they allowed me to order it without the roasted saltine crackers. I can't wait to visit again!

Bones has old money vibes - for example, the receptionist referred to us as Mr. and Ms. which I felt like was very polite and again, traditional. We were celebrating my birthday, and they pre-decorated our table a little bit! We got special print-out menus that said "Happy Birthday" and the table had a little bit of confetti on it! It was a nice gesture to be welcomed with. Our server, Michael, was great at being attentive (without being overly attentive), and providing recs/answering our questions. We went with the Crab and Lobster Napoleon for our app, the Ribeye to split, and a side of their famous Hash Browns. Everything was very good!! I will let the pictures speak for themselves, but all the food comes out hot, fresh, and with good flavor. I really do recommend getting the Hash Browns - it sounds a little silly to order such a dish at a steakhouse, but try it for yourself :) All dishes have a good portion size so keep that in mind when ordering! While not pictured, I do have to give a shoutout to the complimentary bread service - their bread is real good. Hot and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Try not to get full off the bread alone. For dessert, Bones surprised us with literally the tallest and thickest slice of ice cream cake I've ever seen! My jaw dropped. I love ice cream cake and it was awesome to be treated to some!! I already thought that the table decorations and the special menu were enough to recognize my birthday, but this is the generosity of Bones. I will absolutely be returning some day! If not for the amazing food, then for the equally amazing hospitality! Thank you Bones for a wonderful birthday! Note: Complimentary valet parking ONLY. We asked the valet person if we could just park the car but we weren't allowed to. Bring some cash for a tip.

Fives across the board…read more Casi Cielo is incredible. The space is warm and beautiful without trying too hard, and the crowd was hip and well dressed. Definitely a place to be seen and eat well. There's a parking garage but it was full when we got there, so we did valet, which was surprisingly affordable. Service was wonderful. Our server was attentive, helpful, and super knowledgeable about the menu. As for the food, we got: Aguachile de Pescado, which was insane. Super fresh, bright, citrusy, ceviche-like with perfect texture. I would go back just for that. The Hamachi was clean and bright. That avocado sauce tied everything together and gave it some depth without overpowering the fish. The Pork Belly Tostadas were crispy and rich with that smooth avocado mousse and sweet mango salsa balancing it out perfectly. Finally, the bone marrow with steak... so good. I had seen pictures of it before I came and it did not disappoint. The steak was incredibly tender. They bring blue corn tortillas and suggest making a taco with the marrow, steak, and avocado. It's great that way. But honestly, the marrow and steak stand perfectly on their own. Whole experience was excellent. Easily one of my favorite spots in the city now.

Wanted to love it…read more The vibes are there, the staff is genuinely lovely, and there's real potential here, we just had a bit of an adventure getting through the meal. We had someone in our party with a gluten allergy, and our sweet server was doing his absolute best, bless. We were steered away from the tostadas as a starter due to gluten concerns, so we pivoted to guac...which then arrived with a gluten-free tostada. So the tostadas would have been totally fine! Then a good while after we'd all ordered, she was told her entrée had gluten and needed to be changed. She reordered, and almost immediately, the rest of the table's food came out. So we were left choosing between eating without her or letting everything go cold. And the plantains she'd reordered around, because she'd been told they couldn't be made gluten-free? Turns out they absolutely can be. Just miss after miss there. The spicy margarita was more of a margarita that once passed a jalapeño on the street. I asked for extra jalapeño juice and they were happy to help, but without the seeds and ribs it just couldn't deliver on the heat. I'd skip the margs next visit. This just wasn't quite the relaxed easy dinner we'd hoped for, and the price point feels like it's a step ahead of where the experience currently lands. But I'm rooting for them to get there!

It did not disappoint - in fact, it exceeded my expectations. First of all, Ken was an excellent server. He was paced, attentive, informative, and communicative throughout our experience. We were also celebrating our anniversary, and he and the staff made sure to make the occasion memorable (won't give away to keep it special for you). The food was amazing from beginning to end. First, the bread service was prompt, warm, soft, and served with ricotta. Next, the Ceasar salad was made next to where we sat - and to see them mixing the salads so meticulously down to mixing the dressing from scratch was one of the most amazing dining experiences I've had. I love a good Ceasar - and this was amongst the best. We also ordered the Oysters Marcel - and they were so fresh and bright. For our main course, my wife ordered the bone-in filet. It was cooked to perfection (medium rare - medium). I enjoyed redfish topped with Jump Lump Crab Oscar sauce (with crabs). Both proteins were amazing, but I was surprised by how perfectly cooked the fish was. Delectable. For sides, we enjoyed Cream Corn Gratin and Pommes Frites Béarnaise . Both were complementary of the proteins. The dessert was a 10-Layer Chocolate Cake. It was sooo good. Sweet but not too sweet. Good as it looks. Lastly, the ambiance was amazing. It was like stepping into a portal into a different space in time - almost made you forget we were in Atlanta. It's a bit dark inside - but a well lit darkness - just like I like it. Easy to see the entire space but also feel unseen (even though you are). Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone - although we made a pact to not take anyone from our circle. We want to keep this one for us. But hopefully this write up encourages a stranger to enjoy Marcel. Merci

Walking into Marcel, one is transported to another world. A moody, retro, classic world where…read morebowties are worn unironically in a setting that could best be described as a boxing gym renovated with industrial touches to become a steakhouse in the 1940s. That world could be anywhere. It could even be in Midtown West Atlanta. Service was impeccable. Servers knew we were celebrating our anniversary and were attentive and helpful when making tough menu choices. Pacing was definitely geared toward fine dining. 40 minutes between starters and entree was a BIT long, but it went by. Steak was wonderful (a porterhouse for 2), cooked to a perfect medium rare with seasoning appropriately calibrated to not overpower. East and west coast oysters were fresh and the Marcel salad to start was underdressed and lacked flavor (I enjoyed how they plopped a mound of bleu cheese on top to mix in; I pushed this aside which my server and I laughed about. He said he'd do the same. Maybe it's a sign). Hot bread service with a spreadable cheese and prosciutto was a nice touch. The French fries are probably the best I've ever had, and the asparagus was asparagus (slightly undersalted if anything). Chocolate cake was impressive in presentation but unremarkable for flavor and consistency. My wife enjoyed her decaf coffee as the best she's had at a restaurant, but her cocktail left something to be desired and was extremely tart. A Mexican coke was perfect enough for me. The pricing here is exorbitant. The price tag isn't necessarily a problem given the caliber of dining experience and ambiance that Marcel provides, but given some of the misses on staple items (namesake salad, "famous" chocolate cake), I'm not sure that value for dollar spent is present. In transparency, our dinner comprised of the above was over $400 with tip, which was aligned with expectations walking in the door. Whether the food stood up to the actual place and pricing is a debate. I lean toward an answer of "almost, but close enough not to be insulted." If a gun was pointed at my head to pick the "best steakhouse" in Atlanta, I'd pick Bones without thinking twice. This place is a close second probably, but places like Nowaks in Sandy Springs, while not the same echelon of formality, might have Marcel beat on flavor and definitely have Marcel beat on value for the dollar. Is Marcel's concept valid and well executed? Yes, without question. Would I want somebody else to pay if I returned? Yes, without question. 4.3/5 stars

I sat at the bar and had a little light banter with the bartender who is a brother looking to be in his late 30's-early 40's. When I asked about two fruity cocktails from the menu, he flat-out said he wasn't going to make them. That alone was off-putting. Trying to move forward, I asked what he specialized in, and he said he'd "come up with something." I agreed--but very clearly stated: no rum, because my body does not react well to it. After watching him make drinks for people who ordered after me, he eventually handed me a cocktail I never even saw him prepare. That already raised a flag. I took a few sips, and sure enough--my stomach immediately started reacting the exact way it does when I've had rum. When I asked what alcohol he used, he said, "I don't even know." That response alone tells you everything you need to know. At that point, I reminded him I specifically said no rum. Instead of taking accountability, he tried to argue and backtrack. Let me be clear--when a customer tells you not to use a specific liquor, you don't ignore it, guess, or "forget." That's basic service and basic respect. This situation completely threw off my evening, as I had plans afterward and ended up feeling sick. To make matters worse, I reached out to management and received no response. That lack of accountability speaks volumes. At the end of the day, this wasn't just a bad drink--it was careless service. This staff does not prioritize customer care, and that's a problem. If you choose to visit, be very direct, pay close attention, and don't assume your requests will be respected.
