But they are usually well stocked. Waits are short so you can get in and out. But the staff is usually chatty and theres no immediate need to dash out the door. This place is well hidden across from the travel lodge, & a few doors down from Martuni's. They have one of the widest selection of edibles both high in THC &/or CBD. Ketama always has something great on the shelf, though the selection can vary dramatically from 5 strains one day to 10-15 the next. Hash/wax/kief... You name it! Cool set up. Laid back environment. AAAAAHHHHH.....my beloved KETAMAAA!!!!! This place not only has the best pot in SF, but it is also an experience worth owning. The owner, Abdel, has so much character, charisma, intelligence, and charm. He has put so much heart and soul to make Ketama the best it could possibly be. Lulu has also put a lot of her time and effort to make the place beautiful. And of course, the infamous Luna....who also takes pride sitting on her throne in Ketama. Abdel also has a very loyal staff. It would be a privilege and honor to meet the lovely Irina. Jessica is also very knowledgeable of the products sold there. Abdul, Mader, and Steve are also very helpful. Ketama is named after a town in Northern Morocco. It is known for its marijuana plantations and their hashish. Stepping into Ketama in SF is definitely a Moroccan experience. Everything from the detailed wall art, the photographs, murals, lamps, doors is like walking into an art gallery. This is definitely more of a hash bar than a dispensary... you go for the vibe, the people, and to hang out and blaze. The guy who worked there was a baller. he recommended some bud and immediately packed a bowl to let me try it out with my friends. He also dropped some hash oil on top. The pipe he gave us was really really cool to smoke out of. He encouraged us to hang out and watch TV or come back another time to hang out. The prices were not great but not ridiculous. Good quality product. Not great but good. The selection was poor. I had like three choices of bud. You can buy small quantities. You can smoke up at the counter or on the comfy couch. Its like a bar. You are encouraged to stick around. The place is decorated and its hella sick. It has one of the most intense personalities of any of SF's clubs. I really like this place. OK, so I just got my medical marijuana recommendation certificate thingy and have only been to one other place. But Ketama is chill. They do a great selection of hash. I got a morrocan kush hash that was super tasty. I do wish you could hang out and smoke there. They've got a nice inviting sitting area but it feels odd to sit and nibble your brownie. I will be checking out the other clubs in the city (22! I love San Francisco!!) but Ketama will always be my first. Next up...Vapor Room. The neighborhood is fine...get over it. The "thugs" that I've seen referenced in other reviews are just kids. I went into the store next door to Ketama and they were all hanging out in there and were all totally fine (actually kind of sweet). read more

I don't know how but no one seems to know anything about what they're selling. Imagine getting a medicine from a pharmacist who couldn't tell you anything about the drug. You don't have to if you come here because it's reality. I asked about a strain from the man who "helped" me, and it was like I was pulling teeth. I asked him which of the strains in his outdoor area were the best for helping anxiety. He went to his computer and recommended a cbd, which was not a strain in the area and not answering my question. 2 stars because the girl working the top shelf area was nicer. On my last trip to Ketama, I spent over $200. They didn't even kick me down a joint. Go to ANY dispensary in the bay & spend $200+, they throw freebies for days at you, regardless of whether you're a regular or not. But I am (was) a god damn regular at Ketama and they can't even show a little gratitude for the loyalty. Ketama is my go to clinic and I've been nothing but loyal to this place. I really don't have any bad reviews because they're just really good with their prices and their product. The only problem I have is with their security staff. The omg guy with the beard is just omfg. I'm a regular customer and I come to this clinic almost everyday and yet everyday that this guy is in the front he never lets me in. At first he tells me that he can't let me in because I'm not 21 years old. Understandable. But I have my recommendation letter, in a pdf form in my iBooks from my doctor which means I can legally come in. But no he doesn't let me in. Why? Now his excuse is that i need a paper copy of my recommendation letter. Well how am I supposed to get him a copy on the spot!!!!! Anyways he always starts to argue and to tell me I can't come in even when he just saw me the day before and the day before that and the day before that. I ask him all the time to check the system and see that I am a returning customer!!! But no he wasn't to be stubborn and preceded to not let me in. Most times he doesn't win because the staff knows me and me wife that we always go there and we've built pretty good relationships with the workers there so they just tell him to let us in. And even the other security guy JP just sees my face or my wife's face and just lets us in no problem. It's so funny because JP will be outside the shop and even from a distance sees me and wife coming and he's already smiling and talking to us from afar. I don't know Ketama you guys are one of the best shops in SF but how many times do I have to keep going through this problem with that security guy!?? THIS is now the most recent review, and I think Ketama is wonderful. The bud there is definitely not bad quality, they offer great deals on pre-rolls, and the service is incredibly friendly! I've tried some amazing strains from them. The people complaining about the way the collective looks obviously aren't used to being in what I consider to be almost a spiritual-feeling atmosphere. Not what I expected, with a name like "Ketama" I expected to be served by a Moroccan and taught some Arabic words and learn something about hashish... but no luck. I went here for 420 and got a few edibles. It was really slow inside, and I guess for a reason. Friendly staff, really ugly decor, high prices, no deals. I immediately got an awesome deal on an eighth of high quality shake full of kief, making for potent medicine for a price so low I was instantly surprised and happy I had come here, as I live in the East Bay and don't make it over to The City too often. The owner of Ketama is Moroccan, which makes sense because this place is really more of a hash bar. They have a great selection of hash, as well as edibles (including weed infused honey). First time buy gets you a FREE edible, but we sure to remind them because you must remember that at any club you go to the employees are extremely high. I think they had 6 strains of bud, but they are on shelves behind the counter. This sort of indicates that marijuana takes a back seat to the hashes. There were many different varieties of hashish, from bubble hash to hash oil to pressed hash. If you want hash this is the place to come. This isn't a place you can smoke, but they will let you light up from time to time. read more

I was all excited because I felt very legitimate now, being able to smoke legally, but once I entered this place, I felt like I was in the basement of a 15 year old stoner. I walked into Ketama and immediately went blind and started sweating, and I hadn't even bought anything yet. That's because of how damn dark and H-O-T the place was. It took my eyes a little while to adjust, but when they did, I found myself in a small room with a small mini-bar straight ahead. It's the kind of home "bar" people put in their basement rec room in a corner. Behind the bar was the counter person, and seated around the bar facing him were 2 guys. Before approaching I wisely decided to sit and catch my breath. The place is sweltering, literally, and sweat ran uncomfortably down my face. Surely this room sits atop some massive, heat generating industrial age machine on the floor below it, I thought. It's not even that hot outside. Peering around and seeing no artificial light at all, I realized that once your eyes adjusted, you could see the room OK, but I still wondered how well I'd be able to see the medicine they sold. Directly across from where I sat, a chalkboard held the name and price of what appeared to be their only offering: "Peak 19, $60 eighth oz". I sat there for another 15 minutes, trying to work up the courage to approach The Bar. After all, it was already occupied by 2 young men at least half my age, who sat closely facing the counter man, clearly friends of his who sat talking and joking with him. I quickly sized up the situation. In order to get medicine here, I would have to approach the counter, and ask about my medical need to an audience of these particular people. Since we'd all be facing each other, that is. Do I go up there boldly, faking a cocky confidence as if I'm just as cool as the manager's friends, and demand to know if that strain of cannabis might be useful for my personal medical condition? ("You got a problem with that?")? Or maybe I could approach sheepishly...I'll channel Woody Allen...."Excuse me....eh....I don't want to interrupt and bother such a fine group of young hipsters as yourselves, but, uh, can we uh, talk about my sickness?" I tried to decide on an approach, tried to work up the courage, but I couldn't. Besides, they only had one strain, and by my calculations they were actually charging $15 more per eighth than at several other nearby clubs I am familiar with. In addition, I had to admit that I didn't feel noticed, nevermind welcomed, by anyone there. So I left. My sincere advice to Ketama owner and staff: Please make your establishment friendly to actual medical patients, not just to your homies....unless you're actually just putting up with us pesky patients, so your private weed party can stay open. I am using cannabis to help relieve severe nausea. Came in here because it was the closest place to where I was that day. Will never come back. Both employees were stereotypical burnt out stoners. Neither could tell me what would be the best for nausea, had to google it myself. Their selection is very limited. I bought a wax and some dry herb for ,what I felt were, decent prices. Now I need to warn you about the wax I bought. You have to understand I have only consumed cannabis products a few times so my tolerance is very low. I was told by one of the employees that the wax would have me feeling it after one hit. I was excited I have been struggling with severe nausea for months now and am barely able to eat or leave my house. I get home vaporized it and take a hit. I feel nothing. I wait a few minutes take another hit still nothing. I decide because I not going anywhere that night I going to keep doing it until I feel something. 15+ hits later I still feel nothing. I never have it hit me later or anything. I know I am doing it right and using brand new proper equipment. The wax is definitely at fault. I don't know how these things are produced maybe it's a bad batch. My experience at the actual shop turned me off of contacting them about the wax. I don't feel like wasting my time trying to get answers out of someone who is on another planet. I am looking for medical relief not a high. Despite the rantings of a crazy Moroccan :) this is a unique small dispensary that has a lot of heart and is definitely laid back which a lot of the patients appreciate. When an old shcool, original patient walks into Ketama they often break out with memories of the beginings of a compassionate medical canabis movement that they helped build. This is a funky Amsderdam style San Francisco dispensary that is a space providing patients with a sense of belonging and a warm place( a majority that prefer to sleep outside rather than stay in shelters). It needs work but is slowly is refining its operations and consistency of medicine. if you don't mind waiting 30 minutes for the arrival of medicine, which sometimes happens if you're looking for a full ounce, you can enjoy the spontaneous artistic happenings providing it's a good day for the coop's members. read more
