I've never actually written a yelp review but I felt this was necessary. I scoured through yelp trying to find a decent salon and then I remembered this place because my sister and I had our hair done by two stylists for my sisters wedding a few years back. I emailed the salon during the day yesterday to see if they could squeeze me in last night and they emailed me back promptly with my first choice of a time slot. Off to a good start! I had Nick, who was probably the most knowledgeable hair stylist I've ever had. My hair is super fine and he handled it so well, giving me tips on how to make my hair appear fuller and gave me and AWESOME hair cut. I got bangs which is always risky because if they butcher them it takes a long time for them to grow out but I couldn't be happier and my hair is saying thank you. read more

I'm new to the area and thought I would be searching for a new salon forever. Luckily it looks like my search is over before it began. I'm really bad about maintaining and caring for my hair. I had an appointment with Amanda, who was amazing. She listened to how I care for my hair and suggested a cut that would work with my low, low maintenance lifestyle and my desire to grow my hair out. I even got a little sample of some of the product she used to try at home. The salon space is great, very well cared for, and everyone I interacted with was so pleasant. First of all, kudos to the other Yelpers who recommended Kenzo. Before I got married, I didn't put a hell of a lot of thought into my styling choices. Of course I wanted my hair to look good, but hunting for a low-maintenance, stylish men's haircut, I bounced from place to place never really finding that combination of convenience, price and a stylist who handled the job well. From old-school barber shops with red and white poles out front to trendy salons with lighting synchronized to the music, I've been there. Once I even got a haircut in the subway in New York. But my better half likes my hair to look good, and when she found a stylist she liked in downtown Boston, I went for it. And the cut was very good. But I live on the North Shore and I work in Stoneham. So driving into Boston, contending with traffic and parking hassles, and paying exorbitant prices for a simple men's haircut got old. Fast. On a lunch break in Stoneham, I noticed the windows of Kenzo salon upstairs and thought I'd give it a try. The salon is spacious and airy, with high ceilings, clean lines and a hip, upbeat feel to it. The people there were immediately friendly, extremely accommodating and treated me, frankly, like I hadn't just walked into a high-end salon in a flannel shirt, khakis and New Balance running shoes. Stylist Donalyn did a fantastic job, simple as that. She clearly described the process, was very responsive to feedback and shows an immense amount of skill. And when it came time to pay for the style, the price was extremely reasonable given the quality of work and the overall experience, which was a joy all the way around. Great cuts. Excellent staff. Welcoming space. Joanne works the front desk and is always helpful and friendly. She and Kenzo Salon are also very responsive when it comes to scheduling, email, phone, etc. I've never really had to wait but I am always enthusiastically offered a beverage of my choice or I am able to quickly get on their free wifi. Nick is an excellent stylist. Knowledgeable and a good conversationalist. He knows what he's doing with hair. I've not had the other stylists, but they all seem friendly and good at what they do. The place gives off a warm vibe with the happy customers and staff. Ken doesn't do my cuts but is also quick to wave or say hello as well. Best hair place I've ever been to. read more

This review is for Lisa, she is amazing! I have been going to her for about 2 years now and have always had a positive experience. I have extremely fine hair that she is able to do wonders with. The prices are reasonable. Just a hint the salon is on the second floor and the signage could be better, the first time I went there I walked around lost for a little bit. Go through the main door of the brick building up the stairs and it is on your right. They have a nice waiting area with trail mix and they always ask if i want anything to drink. read more

Here's my problem, I have fine, limp hair that never holds a style. I may have looked good walking out of the salon in the past, but unless I spent 45 min. blow drying with round brushes and products at home, it never looked as good. And, if I did get a good result it only lasted an hour or two until my hair went limp again. Then I found Lisa at Kenzo... Lisa has a gift for making hair like mine fall right and stay right with almost no effort! Her cuts beat any I gave gotten on Newbury st. She is really gifted with her cuts and color. I freak out about trying a new salon.. My hair is super long, and whenever I ask for a trim the stylists always cut more than I wanted and I leave very unhappy. From the moment I walked into this salon I knew this would be different. The woman at the front desk greeted me and offered me a drink and a snack. When I declined, she said "are you sure" and assured me that if at anytime I changed my mind that I could just ask anyone for one. I sat down at Sarah's station and she honestly took 20 minutes to listen to my anxiety about new salons and how nervous I was and how I really wasn't sure what look I was going for. I just told her I want a "change" and she suggestion things and showed me colors and mentioned styles and such. She was awesome. I met the owner. I mentioned that I had a livingsocial deal but that it was on my phone and my phone was 5% at the time and I was worried it would die before it was time to pay. He immediately came back with a charger for my phone. AWESOME!! I ended up leaving absolutely LOVING my hair. It looks amazing. I also left with a little goodie bag that they give to first time customers. Overall the absolute best experience at a salon. Ever. I WILL be back. read more

Very happy with Dena, she gave me the perfect bangs, and layers. She does wonders with my hair every time I go in, I leave feeling happy.

I don't know if my expectations were really high based on this Yelp page here or what but I was really disappointed with my visit to this salon. The location is fine and parking was no problem. It took me a few tries to get an evening appointment and when I finally did, I still had to leave work early. The stylist listened to me during the consultation, which was nice. The shampoo chairs reclined but I didn't receive any massage aspect of them. The stylist also got quite a bit of water on my shirt when rinsing my hair which seems somewhat unprofessional. My haircut took literally 5-10 minutes. I have medium-long hair with layers. She spent about 10 minutes more blow drying my hair. I was in and out of the salon in 30 minutes, which I'm sure some people would enjoy but it felt really rushed. I honestly didn't feel that it was worth $53 and sadly, I think I will keep looking elsewhere. I also didn't get to meet the owner either, so perhaps I just came on an off day. Oh well. read more

I recently visited Kenzo Salon after purchasing a Groupon towards a hair service. When I called to make the appointment they were pretty booked up (but that's too be expected with the Groupon). I asked about using the voucher toward a cut and color and she said that was fine. I made the appointment 3 weeks out, pushing out the life of my color at the same time. When I arrived Joanne was super friendly, offered me a beverage and I grabbed a magazine to relax and wait as I showed up a bit early. The salon was smaller than I expected, but I loved the feeling of the room in what looked to be a renovated mill building. Gina was my hair stylist. She talked to me about the history of the salon and her experience as a hair stylist. I was really excited to get the service considering I normally color my hair myself and only get it cut every 4-6 months. Turns out, the salon only had my appointment booked for just a hair cut; no color. Frustrating for sure, as I'd been pushing out my color in anxious anticipation of this visit. Thankfully, Gina was gracious enough to take the time to do the color since it was only a single process. 2 days later and I love my hair cut. I feels and looks great. I live in Stoneham and have been in the building where the salon is located numerous time on business. Today I was leaving the building and thought I should "shop local" and my hair was screaming for help. I just walked in and Liz was wonderful. She trimmed and shaped my hair, showed me how to dry it to straighten and add fullness and it was a great experience. Highly recommend. read more

I have bookmarked this salon for a few months now and finally made an appointment for a partial foil and haircut. I had to wait two weeks (which is a good sign) for my first appointment. Joanne (sp?) on the phone was so sweet on the phone and in person, and was a preview of the friendly customer service to follow. Upon arrival, Joanne offered me a beverage . . . coffee, tea, water, soda, etc. I opted for a Diet Coke and she brought it over in a nice tall glass -- cocktail napkin and all. The waiting area is cute with asymmetrically shaped couches, tall vases with a variety of floral touches, and ottomans with trays on top . . . basically, the salon is very modern and decorated quite well. I would say Crate & Barrel meets Winston Flowers perhaps. The place has tall ceilings and is bright and airy due to the tall windows and high ceilings. It reminds me of a NYC loft. It definitely doesn't feel like you are in Stoneham anymore! It turns out that Joanne had tried to call me and other clients prior to our appointments because it happened to be Town Day and parking was scarce in the area. I thought that was amazing customer service that the salon would have the foresight to call their clients to inform them of potential parking difficulty. Oh, and one more thing . . . the chair at the hair washing station is so relaxing and comfortable. There is a footrest AND it massages you while you get your hair cleaned. The salon definitely put a lot of thought into the decor and functionality of everything. Donalyn was my stylist, recommended by Joanne over the phone when I made the appointment because I had no idea what I wanted to do except possibly some highlights and a cut. Donalyn consulted with me before she got to work and really listened to what I wanted. Even though I could not completely articulate what I wanted, she was able to transform my blah and dull long, black hair into a sleek cut with some accenting brown highlights. Along the way, she asked me questions to ensure she was understanding my preferences correctly. I have had my hair colored and highlighted in the past and Donalyn managed to make the color in my hair seem natural and subtle, but noticeable. I have had bad hair color experiences where my entire head of hair turned orange instead of red so it was good to know I was in capable hands. While I was there, I also caught a glimpse of Ken at work. He is the owner and even though he seems serious when he is at work cutting and coloring, he was really friendly to his customers. Even though he was not my stylist, he smiled at me and said hello when he went to put away magazines. His family (I think cousins is what Donalyn told me) apparently come in for haircuts now and then on weekends when Ken is officially off for the day. On this particular Saturday, one of his cousins -- a cute kid, perhaps 3 or 4? -- was getting his haircut and Ken was so good with him. At one point, the kid started crying when hair got in his eyes and Ken tried to calm him down. I think that is really sweet and shows that the business is based on good ol' family values. Kenzo looks like a Newbury St. salon but definitely doesn't function as one. I ended up purchasing some Bumble and Bumble products on my way out too. That is primarily what they use on your hair and Donalyn was good about describing each product as she applied it. She was informative without trying to sell the product like other places do. Although I had 3 or so products in my hair, they were all light and I didn't feel them at all. When I checked out, they also gave me a referral coupon for $10 off for a cut or a color, so if you are interested, I would be happy to refer you! They also give you a nice little bag as a parting gift with a pen, magnet, and a comb, which is a small but definitely nice perk. I go to two other stylists in the Fenway and one in Belmont regularly, but now that Kenzo is just 3 minutes away from my house, I can see me going here more often. The customer service and quality of their work is well worth it! I cannot wait to show off my style! The prices are also quite reasonable. My partial foil was $80 and the haircut was $35. Their website says they also do wedding hair and make-up, and Donalyn told me she performs those services quite often. read more

Nick talked with me about my cut and style and I left looking and feeling like a million bucks!! I've been here two times so far and I've been VERY pleased with this salon. I had found the salon on yelp and had planned to go and, when they ran their groupon special, I knew I had to do it. My first appt was for just a cut and Gina was my stylist. As soon as I walked in everyone was very friendly and they offer you something to drink - including wine! I've only ever gotten my hair cut from my little hometown and I've never been happy with it. It was refreshing to have Gina actually listen to what I wanted, ask questions about my hair, and give suggestions. The wash is the most relaxing one I've ever had - warm towel behind my neck, reclining chair, great massaging wash. The cut was great and just what I wanted. Througout the cut she told me what every product was - but didn't make it feel pushy to buy them. When leaving, I got a little gift bag with referral coupons and in the mail Gina sent me a thank you card and coupon toward a future color. The next time I went, I went for a cut and partial foil. I wasn't sure of the exact color I wanted for my low lights, so Gina brought out samples for me to choose from and told me exactly what she was going to do before she did it. The color was excellent and I am soo happy with it! I've never been so happy with the color of my hair! I actually love it more now that I'm home than I even did in the salon. In terms of price incase anyone wonders - for me (and I don't know if it changes based on hair type or length), the prices were $45 for a cut, wash, and blow dry; $80 for a partial foil; and $15 for a glaze that was on top of my color to make it super shiny. So it's very reasonably priced here considering you know you're getting great service and results. Just an FYI - they ask that tips not be included on your credit card. I had seen and heard about this salon for quite some time and finally tried them for a full foil, cut, wash and dry with a Living Social deal and I'm so glad I did! Making my appointment was very easy and the receptionist was very patient in working through my ridiculous schedule. I arrived a few minutes early and was met with a welcoming smile and an offer of a beverage. Yes please! Nick was my stylist and within minutes of me getting there, I was in the chair and we chatted away. I wasn't too specific with what I wanted - my philosophy is that my hair will grow back or can recolored but Nick made some suggestions and he was spot on! He was great about telling me about the products he was using and he really knew his stuff! The chairs at the sink were massaging chairs which was a really nice touch! I really appreciated the time Nick took and my hair looks and feels spectacular! Nick gave me a sample of product to try in a little gift bag. Update: I have gone to Karla 3 times now. She is a very talented stylist, great personality and I have gotten a consistently great cut each time. She remembered the challenges that I have with my hair (cowlicks!!!) and with precision cutting and instructions for drying at home it is no longer the problem it was when I walked in. I enjoy the atmosphere of the shop, parking is easy, and the price is very reasonable for the quality of cut that you get. It's a 25 minute drive for me and definitely worth the inconvenience. read more

Kenzo was a-ok. I guess that I was expecting to be wow'd from start to finish and it just wasn't there. This probably would have been a 4 star review had I not been annoyed by two things..1) being charged for a $20 glaze that I didn't ask for or was even aware that I was given and 2) as I was leaving I saw another customer chatting it up with her stylist while getting her hair colored with a glass of delicious white wine. Why no wine for me? Give the girl some wine to lessen the sting of the mysterious $20 glaze. Cut/color were good so I may come back but I'll ask for wine and check my receipt. read more

I went to Kenzo with the goal of getting bangs again...even though I knew I was taking a risk going somewhere new. Nick was amazing. He is so knowledgeable and thoughtful about his work, and honestly, he did with my bangs what no one has ever managed to do before. They look great and people have been complimenting me left and right. He also gave me simple styling tips, which are key for this mama of two with no time! After finding Kenzo on Yelp, I made an appointment to get a men's cut. I wanted a place that was easy to get to (not driving downtown), not too expensive (not driving downtown), and looked like it occassionally had male clients. I wanted to let the stylist make some decisions about what would look good on me, because I'd had the same non-style for years. My experience with DonaLyn at Kenzo was fantastic. I had an afternoon appointment with no waiting. She shared her thoughts on what she would do, listened to my input, check with me on wether I wanted to use product or or willing to dry my hair and all that. Even with a meaningful consulation, shampoo, cut, & explanation of styling, I was only there for half an hour. The drink when you check in and the massage chair for the shampoo sink are just pieces of evidence for the customer-centered environment. The staff was all friendly, not pretentious. I even got a sincere "thank you" from Kenny (the stylist-owner, who I hadn't seen) on the way out. On pricing, I think $25 for a men's cut is fine, when it's executed so well. I was a little worried I'd get hit when I bought any product, but the Bumble&Bumble jar of goop was cheaper at Kenzo than at Target.com. Great place, I'll be a return customer for sure. read more

I love Kenzo Salon! I have gotten haircuts by 3 different stylist and have always walked away feeling happy. Most recently I got my haircut by Nick, and got the best haircut yet. He somehow knew what I wanted, when I didn't even know what I wanted. It was the best haircut I have ever gotten. The people who work the front desk are always so nice and they are so great at squeezing me in and getting me an appointment because I always book so last minute with my crazy schedule. This place is great. I've been looking around for ages for a good salon closer to home and cheaper than Boston. I go to Brandy and she is a genius. She also listens to what I like. Every other hair stylist I've ever been to told me I need to always go lighter with my hair, not darker. At first we did do highlights, and they came out awesome. Then in the fall I asked Brandy if I could go darker. Well she made it look amazing. Since I started going to Kenzo I've received more compliments on my hair than I ever have. Also on my first visit Kenny the owner shampooed my hair. It was life changing. read more

I just got my hair cut at Kenzo about an hour ago and it came out fantastic. After about 9 months without a hair cut I walked into Kenzo with my mousy-thin hair and shredded ends, and Annemarie somehow made my hair look great--without lopping off six inches--she is truly amazing at what she does. We chatted throughout the cut and she is a very nice person in addition to be being talented and professional. The prices are also very fair--I think this is the best haircut I've ever had, and I paid $30 less than what I would have been charged on Newbury Street. Everyone at this salon is friendly and kind--the receptionist was very welcoming and offered me coffee (they even gave me a to-go cup when I didn't finish it); and the owner was very welcoming as well. It seems as though the people working at Kenzo really enjoy their jobs-so he must be a good boss. I will definitely be back. read more

I didn't have very high expectations going into it because my hair is naturally dark brown and didn't think I would have many options. Just tried Kenzo for the first time and have nothing but great things to say! I was greeted by Cheryl who was friendly and welcoming as others have written before. Cheryl immediately took my coat and offered me a beverage. I asked for the mudslide coffee (yum) and she bought it over to me in a nice oversized ceramic mug (no 3 oz styrofoam for this place!). I waited a bit as I was there early, but that was okay since the waiting area is very cozy and uncrowded. You can entertain yourself with a selection of magazines, or watch the 46 in flat screen tv on the wall in front of you. My stylist was Donalyn. I admit I was slightly apprehensive when she told me that she was in her early 20's, but have nothing but great things to say after seeing the results. Donalyn did a fabulous job with a partial highlight (also a few lowlights) and giving me the exact cut I had discussed with her (took about 5 inches off the length w/ layers & bangs). I was so excited to finally find a place that could do a great job on the color AS WELL AS the cut. I never felt rushed, or like another client was a priority over me, as I've felt at other places where they are working on 2-3 clients at once. Best part...the price! I don't think I've spent less than $200 on a cut/highlight/style in years, so was not expecting this to be any different. My total, including tip was less than $150 and they give first time customers a cute little sample bag...very nice touch. Hello everybody! I am back in here to write an update review about my very gifted and handsome hair designer Kenny. I came in today to do my hair cut and was excited to see him! I knew that I am in good hands, and he will do some magic again, and I will love it! When I walked in, Kenny was finishing his other client's hairdo. I was offered right away by a sweet receptionist Joanne a cup of coffee, which was tasty. Sarah, washed my hair and gave me a great massage for my head, I did not want to leave that chair, for it was massaging my back as well. Massage, and being surrounded with a heated towel around my neck made me feel very comfy. Kenny did not need to ask me what I want to be done with my hair, for he knew or may be sensed what I wanted. Kenny was very focused on my hair, used razor around my ears, which makes this area looking very clean and accurate. He definitely is an experienced and creative master! I have so much trouble with my side swept bangs. It's difficult to get the correct length and thickness. After all the outstanding reviews, I scheduled an appointment at Kenzo for a bang trim. When I arrived Joanne greeted me and offered me a beverage. The salon itself is beautiful and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I saw Sarah and she did an excellent job with my bangs. She took the time to understand what I wanted and made sure I was happy with them before I left her chair. You know your bangs are cut perfectly when you don't even need hairspray!
