Like many in 2024 we experienced water in our crawl space basement for the first time; and when…read moreneeding a sump pump installation like many we also experienced dozens of companies price gouging, long wait times, no call backs, too busy, and a variety of non-apologetic responses. So we pumped ourselves out hoping in late summer we can find a company to install a sump pump. Enter Griswold Plumbing Services and Eli. 1. Phase One - Point of Contact: Cold called 4 companies, and no contest, Griswold's office was friendly, considerate, quick to schedule within in days of the call and I knew what to expect before they showed up. 2. Phase Two - First Visit, Inspection, Quote: no contest, Eli and his apprentice Brent showed on time, went right to work, took measurements and immediately provided a quote WITH a detailed and simple explanation of the entire process. Eli was professional, down-to-earth and made everything understandable - honestly it was if i knew Eli, and just a nice person. The Quote was not the highest, not the lowest but affolrdable, provided options (my request) and Eli made me feel comfortable the job would be done right. While I did not have to, nor was i pressured in any way, I accepted the quote and was quickly scheduled. Phase Three, The Job: Eli and Brent arrived as promissed and both NEVER stopped working until the job was done - even when I offered lunch! Eli, who remained in the 4ft crawl space all day, would pop his head out to answer a question or when they were about to perform a "major" portion of the job. I have been in construction my entire life and Eli was one of the nicest young men i have meet. The job was completed in August, the new pump removed remaining water from under/around house and remains working perfectly. As a side Eli took time while on vacation to answer a question, even providing graphics overlaid on pictures we had taken. Thank you Griswold and Eli!

The kitchen had very little counter space and outdated electrical, but we believed it was a difficult room to do much with as it had five doors and three windows which greatly limited our options. It had been last reno'd in 1990 but that was just a cosmetic reno, i.e., paint, flooring, cabinets & countertop. We met with Gerard and he agreed to take on our project. We spent about three months on design work with him and his design team, Pam & Emily, which, based on their input, changed very significantly from our original idea. The original layout was very inefficient because the cook prep area was spread over the entire space, and to get from the mudroom to the rest of the house, you had to walk through the prep area. They were able to offer suggestions to essentially flip the design of the space 180 degrees which allowed for the installation of a traditional U-shaped counter as well as the separation of the cook prep and dining areas. Since the walls had not been down in our lifetime, we had no real idea what we'd find although we expected that there were going to be things that would need attention. We found that there were rotted posts near what were originally exterior doors and floor joists. The fieldstone foundation was caving in as it only had mortar on the outside. There were structural issues with the second-floor landing (hidden above the ceiling) and lack of collar ties on the roof structure. The Covenant team estimated the job to take 12-14 weeks. We moved in and started using the space again right at the 14-week mark. Every weekday for 14 weeks, including a small number of Saturdays, there was at least one contractor at the house doing something. Anyone that has ever been involved with construction knows that is amazing scheduling. They easily could have lost at least a week or two deciding on how to resolve the foundation issue and then lining up the sub-contractors needed. The end result has been transformative. The space looks larger than it was due to having vaulted the ceiling and the organization of space. A triple window over the sink now looks out to the yard, brightening up the space. The kitchen is much more functional than it previously was. The attention to detail that they have is really amazing. They are able to visualize what the space will look like when finished. They try to incorporate the style of what they are designing into the rest of the home so that it looks new and modern but doesn't clash if you have an older home such as we do. The suggestions that they made for colors and finishes worked out very well. We'd very highly recommend them to anyone considering kitchen or bath work; as a matter of fact, we have spoken with several people who plan to contact them about upcoming projects.

My initial design ideas were made better with their expertise and visually my kitchen looks exactly as I'd hoped. The work done by plumbers, electricians, painters, and all sorts of other specialist companies is top notch. What is well below expectations is the project oversight, attention to detail, customer service, and communication. I paid a premium price for low quality project management and two out of four major appliances being limited function to non-functional on the day they called the project "Majority of Work Complete". Venting work was needed outside, for a project taking place in the winter, and they saved the work for the last week of the project when adverse weather conditions prevented it from being done. The week prior I asked why the work wasn't even on the schedule and they assured me that they had it under control and the work would be completed on time. Apparently not consulting the weather forecast for an outdoor weather dependent project. Weather is beyond their control. Planning for weather to be beyond your control is what a good project manager does. But at least I can use the stove, as long as I don't burn anything I'm cooking or care whether my whole house smells like the kitchen. The brand new dishwasher is completely non-functional, doesn't even turn on. There were many sink elements in my project plan, which they were aware of when measuring for the very nice very expensive custom cabinets. Yet when I pull the faucet nozzle extension the under sink trash can gets knocked off track. I could remove the under sink trash can and solve that problem, but the reason I paid for custom cabinets including the under sink trash cans is there is no room for trash cans in my small kitchen. I wrongly assumed their measurements would account for the needed room for all the elements in the plan. When I expressed concern about the lack of oversight on the project and lack of care with my installs I was told to enjoy my beautiful kitchen. So if you're looking for a stunning kitchen that doesn't function, go with these guys without worry. If you're looking for a beautiful kitchen that also works, think twice.

After my 23 year old condenser finally kicked the bucket, they were on site the next day to assess the situation. When replacement day came, Kevin and Matt arrived right on schedule. Not bad, especially when it was a 30 minute window to begin with! They got right to work, and before I knew it the old condenser and evaporator was already in the back of the van. When a metal piece needed replacing they were able to leave, machine a new part, and return in about 25 minutes. I honestly couldn't believe it. I was initially told this would be an all day affair. But just four hours later, the new parts were installed and running beautifully. Kevin and Matt answered any questions I had during the process, and were very respectful of my home throughout the entire install. While larger companies may have more advertising, I highly recommend Mann & Sons for anyone in the area looking for a hassle free repair or replacement job!

When I followed up in person after a brief family emergency, the price was increased by $250, with the claim that technicians were waiting--something that was never communicated at any point. When I referenced his earlier statement about not being able to get the unit, he said he "didn't care what he said." Raising the price after the fact and dismissing prior statements shows poor communication and a lack of professionalism, so I chose not to proceed.

Our experience with Scribner's Kitchen and Bath, particularly owner Jim Moran, left us feeling…read moreprofoundly disrespected and fell significantly short of our expectations for a "luxury" kitchen designer. I remember assurances from Jim Moran that he was detail-oriented and would collaborate with my wife--an architect and engineer--he was notably absent from the design process after our initial meeting. For six months, near weekly design meetings with Scribner's were frustrating due to incorrect or unchanged plan updates. My wife ultimately developed key design features for the kitchen on her own and which I recall Jim Moran acknowledging were superior to his own. During construction, we discovered the kitchen island was installed 8 inches off-plan and was 6 inches shorter than the design. This highlighted that the measurements used to develop the plans were off by nearly six inches and resulted in a less than 27-inch clearance around our island. It felt as though Jim Moran dismissed our concerns, as I recall him claiming "he didn't think we'd notice" the change and stating the clearance was "fine", although not to code. I remember him only conceding to relocate the island when we pointed out it wouldn't accommodate my mother-in-law's wheelchair. Due to the inaccurate measurements used for developing the design, months of my wife's meticulous work on sightlines were rendered useless, for which we were offered no compensation. Undiscussed design details and quality issues were prevalent. Incomplete tile work, cracked new cabinets from costly under cabinet lighting installation, multiple unfilled crown molding seams, and countertop seams not identified in the design. Nearly every cabinet was damaged, and adhesive, from mounting the countertops, was left to harden on interior cabinet walls. In every instance it felt Jim Moran was only interested in fighting us to avoid rework. When my wife asked how we could adjudicate these issues, I recall Jim Moran shockingly threatened us with legal action. Not at all the experience we'd expect from the owner of a "luxury" kitchen contractor. I was further insulted when Jim Moran implied our complaints were related to being unable to afford the renovations; which is completely untrue and unfounded. Our checks all cleared without issue. We were never offered compensation or rework for the majority of our concerns as, it felt like, Jim Moran belittled our quality standards. The project, estimated for 4-6 weeks, dragged on for over 10 weeks, with no compensation offered for our increased displacement time or food costs. Insultingly the team abandoned the site without notifying us, and did not perform a final walk-through or punch list, leaving a dishwasher with standing water and tile unfinished. When we reached out to Scribners for help they notified us that the job was complete. We withheld final payment on appliances due to unsatisfactory installation and Scribners accepting damaged products. The appliance store graciously was able to get Jim Moran's attention which prompted another week of disgruntled contractors trudging through our home to fix appliances, tile, and lighting. Even then, broken pull-out cabinets remained, which I, exhausted from the experience, opted to fix myself, again without compensation or apology. Overall, the experience felt like dealing with a used car salesman--issues were hidden, options concealed, product information was incorrect, and communication was poor. Most disappointingly, my wife experienced increasingly rude treatment, including disregarded emails, belittlement of her expectations, and even legal threats.There were countless other issues and disrespectful comments that are too lengthy for this review. I hoped waiting a few months to write this review would make me feel better about the situation, as ultimately it is a nice kitchen. However, the treatment from the owner was unacceptable. I get no joy from writing this review but hope it helps others make a more informed decision, as I feel taken advantage of and foolish for trusting Scibners promises.
