It was scheduled for one week but they extended it another week. This was their first year doing it so I think it was a success. It was pretty busy on the beautiful Wednesday evening I went. Lots of ppl taking pics even with professional setups. Tix were $16 or few dollars off if you purchase online. Lots of parking in the gravel/grass. There is a line to buy tix then you grab scissors to cut your own tulips if you want them $2 a tulip. Some of them were dying so they weren't a perfect bloom for a bouquet. The line to pay for tulips was kind of long as well. We spent a couple hours here looking and taking photos. We looked around first before deciding to go back to cut so we lost some time with that. Great photo ops though, highly recommend!

Oh my goodness there are so many activities to enjoy, both for kids and adults. The place was so crowded on a Saturday afternoon, and you could tell everyone was having a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend heading out there! A few things to note: first, dogs are allowed! If you are like me and have a trained service animal, it can be a bit overwhelming (if you know, you know). They are not allowed in indoor spaces, only outside (SD's allowed everywhere). But many people had their pets and seemed to really be enjoying themselves! Second, food does not really meet dietary needs/restrictions. They have a lot of your basic "fair foods" or foods you'd find at a pumpkin patch - hot pretzels, burgers, hot dogs, apple cider donuts, etc. I am vegetarian and really struggled to find a true meal other than little snacky things scattered about. If you are planning to spend the day here (which you can EASILY do), plan ahead with food in your car! Third, on the plus side, everything was wheelchair accessible. Terrain may be harder to navigate with gravel and many hills going up & down (paths are dirt but well established), but all buildings have access. Other than this, it truly was a fun time!! I was looking for heirloom pumpkins for decor and for a still life painting. The crew was watering the mums when we arrived before noon opening on Sunday. The mums were luscious and just starting to bloom. A cart selling Noble Coffee had a lazy aging dog sleeping underneath. Pumpkins and gourds lined the building in neat rows. I found a blue pumpkin that I needed. When the shop opened, kids headed towards the fields for pick your own pumpkins. I was surprised that raspberries were still on the vines for you pick. I headed into the shop to look around. Spencer bottles and sells their own salad dressings and preserves. Fall and Christmas giftware was out. But, a case full of pies caught my eye. Peach, blueberry, cherry, apple and more. I selected a slice of blackberry. I enjoyed my pie outside on their little patio. The pie was delicious. (They The They also sell fudge and ice cream.) The winery is a new addition since my last visit. The winery wasn't opened, but I will check it out on my next visit. Spencer Farm is a great place to visit and pick up fresh produce.

I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service.

When I think of orchards, I tend to reflect fondly back on school field trips and my childhood in…read moregeneral. That feeling was alive and well at Greenfield, Indiana's Tuttle Orchards. This 200-acre establishment offers around 50 acres of apples, 30 acres of vegetables, 20-25 acres of pumpkins, and a greenhouse among other options. There's a small cafe here. There's U-Pick apples, of course, along with U-Pick pumpkins. There's flowers galore, a variety of food items, exhibits classes, tours, and more. They take credit cards (no WIC or SNAP). There's no general admission to get into Tuttle. There's also no parking fee. There are fees for certain activities, and there are obviously fees for items that are sold. There are over 2,000 items in their farm store. I'm a definite fan of the donuts. Yeah, I know. What kind of weirdo goes to an orchard and gets a donut? Me. I'm that weirdo. More than 90% of their plants sold are grown right at the orchard. Tuttle has been around since the early apple trees were planted in 1928. It's now fourth generation Tuttle, though the owners are actually named Roney at this point (but still in the family). Accessibility? Better than expected and obviously intentional. Perfect? Nope. It's an orchard. No orchard will be perfectly accessible, but it's quite good and employees are helpful as much as able. Parking lot offers parking options. They've worked with disabled students, and the hayride is wheelchair accessible. The pumpkin patch is a dirt path, however, for the most part I found it workable. Some may need assistance. The only accessibility issue in most places would be the crowds, as Tuttle can get quite packed - especially on weekends. Tuttles does ask for advance notice for those with disabilities if possible, especially for groups, so guides can adapt material as needed for age/developmental level. Overall, I really enjoyed this visit. It wasn't my first time to Tuttle, though I'd never remembered it well enough to be comfortable reviewing it. After a recent visit, I remembered why I always enjoyed it so much. It was more accessible than expected, everyone was friendly, and a side benefit is really watching all the kids around you have such a good time. There's a reason so many consider an orchard visit a fall tradition. Tuttle Orchard is a great place to start that tradition with your friends and family.

Dollinger Family Farm checked all the boxes, so we gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did because we had a very positive experience. We arrived on a Saturday right when it opened to avoid crowds. There were others there, but distancing was so easy. There were signs everywhere about wearing a mask and there was also a hand-washing station. We noticed a lot of other farms that are an easy drive from like Chicago did not take this pandemic seriously at all, so we loved supporting a farm that did take it seriously. We looked a bit at the animals--so cute!--before heading over to look at the pumpkins (AKA the main event). They had a tractor set up with a bunch of assorted squash for the perfect photo op. Then, pumpkins were sorted into piles based on size with a sign with the price. For example, a pile with $8 pumpkins. I believe the most expensive were $12. We selected two $8 pumpkins that were huge! My only suggestion would be to actually label the pumpkins with prices. The people in front of us in line picked a pumpkin from the $9 pile, but the employee insisted that this was too big of a pumpkin to have come from that pile. She said sometimes customers move the pumpkins around. I don't blame the customers for being a little frustrated because they obviously picked their pumpkin with the price in mind. We were worried this might happen to us, but they did not question when we told them we picked $8 pumpkins. The service was excellent. An employee actually took our pumpkins and we could drive up to pick them up before leaving. It was so helpful not to have to carry these huge pumpkins over to the car ourselves.
