The majority of the merchandise is the best of garage sale pickings, country arts and crafts and used furniture. You won't find many antiques. You won't find many heirloom treasures. The owner of the building mans the cash register, and only on one occasion was he chatty and friendly. The merchandise doesn't turnover quickly so if you visit every three months to six months, you might see a few new things. Of all the antique shops in town though, this is the nicest.

But these things would also make great gifts for a loved one, if you're looking for a gift. This boutique store has a lot of things for kids, which is neat. There's a whole little section just for kids' clothing and accessories. Mostly, though, you'll find women's clothing, women's accessories, plus random things like candles, handbags, bath bombs, hair clips and things like that. It reminds me of the kind of boutiques I would shop when I lived in Chicago and Austin and that I miss. Scout carries a fun variety. There is top quality vintage furniture and home goods with plenty of new products as well. You can find Baggu reusable bags, fun stationary, quirky gifts like Queer Eye or Golden Girls candles, stickers, and keychains. Today there was even a plant pop-up shop. The owner is the operator and is very friendly. I truly hope this store does well as it fills a niche here in Lafayette that we don't have otherwise. I only worry that not enough people know about this little gem. My only "complaints" would be that I want MORE! More hours (right now they're only open from Wed-Sat 10-3 which means I can only make it on a Saturday) and more inventory! More stationary, and small inventory.

The main room has the check out counter facing the door in the center of the room, so you can explore to either side: Lots of candle varieties including some made in state, lots of items with clever witticisms to make you think or smile, women's bags, wall hangings, and seasonal (Easter) pieces to add some charm to your home. And when you think you've seen it all, there is another room to the left that has even more items including rugs, lap quilts, and other cloth items. More seasonal items were out in preparation for the weekend sale. The woman who was working apologized for the store being in transition, but it was still neat enough that I wouldn't have known there was anything out of place unless she had told me. She let me browse and asked how I had heard about the shop. I was surprised that nobody had reviewed her store yet on Yelp. When I was ready to make a purchase, she immediately stopped what she was doing so that I didn't have to wait. That's a person who gets customer service. Really good pieces, custom creations, reasonable prices, a wonderfully friendly staff (Mrs. Gibson is so sweet!) -- and to top it off, delivery was a week ahead of when we expected it! The delivery crew was early, polite, and made sure everything was assembled / in place before leaving. She could not have been more kind and warm; I'm so sad I didn't get her and the owners' names (but her daughter also owns the jewelry store across the street!!). Olive & Slate is a must-shop. Instantly the scent of one of their candles hits your senses and you're drawn in. They sell these awesome robot pieces made of metal and tin and are painted and out together by locals. They also sell flour towels with amazing quips on them (see pics below - they're only $7!!), and Mud Pie products that you canNOT love without. You gotta go visit. BRING YOUR MONEY! Was waiting on 3rd function valve for grapple I guess from a phone call i finally received awhile ago. Figured since told me middle of December they might of called with a update but nope nothing. Think I've about given up that I'll ever get it. Thinking I need to go to a different location to order it or something. Idk. Not to mention when I ordered it that it was $2k cheaper so we shall see what price they end up trying to charge me if it ever comes in. At this point I'm not even hopeful anymore.
