I was looking for heirloom pumpkins for decor and for a still life painting. The crew was watering the mums when we arrived before noon opening on Sunday. The mums were luscious and just starting to bloom. A cart selling Noble Coffee had a lazy aging dog sleeping underneath. Pumpkins and gourds lined the building in neat rows. I found a blue pumpkin that I needed. When the shop opened, kids headed towards the fields for pick your own pumpkins. I was surprised that raspberries were still on the vines for you pick. I headed into the shop to look around. Spencer bottles and sells their own salad dressings and preserves. Fall and Christmas giftware was out. But, a case full of pies caught my eye. Peach, blueberry, cherry, apple and more. I selected a slice of blackberry. I enjoyed my pie outside on their little patio. The pie was delicious. (They The They also sell fudge and ice cream.) The winery is a new addition since my last visit. The winery wasn't opened, but I will check it out on my next visit. Spencer Farm is a great place to visit and pick up fresh produce.

I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service.

My sister and I had the best day at Anderson Flower Farm! This flower farm felt magical…read more Upon arriving, we were greeted by the Flower Farmer and owner -Lois - and the Farm owner -Don. This farm is family owned and you can tell that they put so much love into this business. It's a beautiful thing to see. Lois and Don explained to us how picking at their farm works and what sort of flowers and greenery we should pick. You have the option between at $35 bucket (the largest picking bucket) a $25 bucket and they have $5 buckets for kids. We went with the $35 bucket and it was huge. They taught us how long the stems need to be and to use the garden shears to cut the stems at an angle. Then they let us roam free to pick! We were there bright and early at 9AM and we were the only customers so we had the farm to ourselves. We spent the next hour and a half picking flowers and greenery. It was so peaceful and beautiful on their farm. When we were finished we went back up to the counter. Lois taught us about some of the different flowers we picked and answered any questions we had. We paid, and then we were on our way! When we got home we arranged our bouquets. We were able to get 4 bouquets out of all of our flowers which was awesome! Be sure to bring your own bucket for transporting the flowers! They provide the picking buckets, but you definitely need one for transport. We had SO much fun at the flower farm. We ate apple cobbler and bought a 1/2 peck of Johnathan apples to make apple pies. My granddaughter learned how to make apple pie and now makes a better apple pie than her grandmother. We went back to get another 1/2 peck after I ate two apple pies. I'm almost finished with my third apple pie. Did I mention I like apple pie? We plant to back in October for the petting zoo when it becomes available. We also bought a candle, honey, and some small decorative pumpkins which she painted to look like a strawberry.

They offer U-pick apples & Pumpkins or if you're in a hurry they're ready to grab from the red barn. Pumpkins are super reasonably priced at $.40 a Lb or pie pumpkins for $3. The concession stand is open on Saturday & Sunday. I love the fried biscuits with apple butter & of course you must get the apple cider slushies!! I don't remember seeing it prior, but they had apple cobbler warmed up with ice cream, delicious! I just love this place so much! Many food trucks, I had close free parking within half a block (and the blocks are smallish), it radiates out in 4 blocked streets from the center, with everything I expected in farm stands, food trucks, and unique items. The organizers have done a fantastic job with this market. There are broad sidewalks behind all the rows, to escape the "crowd" but really I found the density of crowd perfectly pleasant, not too much, just cheerful, and there were plenty of benches and steps to sit on for a quick break. Plenty of spots to sit with food, plenty of space for each stand. Overall, I've seen markets across the country and give this 5 stars for being just super pleasant in every regard. People of Lafayette area are so friendly and cheerful, too! Enjoy! P.S. Located in the heart of downtown Lafayette, you'll find dozens of vendors selling everything from plants and fresh baked croissants to candles and produce. It's a great mix of vendors with plenty of produce for those looking to prepare for the week ahead. They also often have live music to set the mood and if I remember correctly, the market is dog-friendly. Given the great location, you can also explore all of the adjacent shops and restaurants while you are there. We're especially a fan of the Revolution Bakery.
