A few years ago I bought a car from them, a 2006 BMW 330i. It was a good experience when buying the car. I called them back to see if they would put a clutch and flywheel in it. The woman who answered the phone was very standoffish. I wanted to put a normal flywheel and clutch in the car. She told me she would do her own research on the part number I gave her and she would call me back. Call never came. Maybe she was having a bad day. Brought my car (2008 BMW 335xi) in for an inspection and they bricked my FRM. I asked them what happened and the lady at the front desk said, "We don't know". I asked to speak to someone that worked on my car and she told me they were not there. They wanted ~$800 to replace my FRM and program it. I fixed it for $55. I was told the owner would call me after I had picked up my car, but no one that even worked on my car contacted me. They tried to blame it on me and label as a pre-existing condition because I had told them I was aware of issues with FRMs in these cars. It was working when they were looking at my car, hence the window being stuck down after they pulled it into the garage and rolled it down as they always do, to prevent locking the keys in the car I was told. The FRM is in charge of all sorts of things like the windows, headlights, blinkers, radio, accessory lights, etc. I brought my car to them with all of these things working. As I was leaving the lady at the front desk continued to assure me that the owner would call me after I requested it, she also said "It could just start randomly working again"..... They also told me I need to replace my transmission as I was concerned with a 5th gear problem. They dropped the pan, said the fluid looked ok (even though it was due for a change after ~80k miles), then quoted me on transmission replacement prices in the thousands of dollars. This was also something they didn't know what was wrong with, but assured me it needed to be replaced. read more

They offer fantastic service at reasonable prices, and are willing to work with you on timing your repairs according to safety and budget when your car needs a few more things than you thought it did. The folks at Kensington Autoworks take great pride in taking care of your car. They get to know it over time, which allows them to make recommendations that suit your actual use of the vehicle as well as meet regulatory standards. This is quality care, from quality folks. As-is really means as-is with these folks! I bought a used 2000 BMW station wagon from these folks for $3000 with an as-is warranty, but was told it was a mechanics car, with a rebuilt engine personally installed and the car deemed mechanically fit by the business owner. When I went back a couple weeks later for an oil change, I was told I was leaking gasoline, that it needed to be fixed immediately, and that all the fuel lines needed to be replaced. When I questioned about as-is, I was told there was no warranty, it was an "out of the ordinary" occurrence, and I would have to eat the almost $500 repair cost. I had the car for about 6 weeks and was driving on 95 in CT when the brakes went out on the highway: scared and stranded, I called these guys and LVM. Never got a callback. I had to have a local CT BMW shop install new breaks at $1100 in order to get my daughter, her dog, and myself home. So my $3000 mechanically fit mechanics car cost me an additional $1600 within 2 months, $4600 total, . Do to my bad experience with these folks, I would be wary of buying a used car from them. Do not buy a used car from these folks! I bought a 2000 BMW wagon from the owners that was constantly referred to as a "mechanics car" but had no warranty, and was in "such great shape that another mechanic was going to buy it himself". The owner would not bend on the price, stating that he had personally rebuilt it himself, and it was in great shape. I bought it, and a few weeks after purchase the fuel lines blew, and the car was leaking gas from the engine. Bringing it back to them, I was told it was dangerous to drive it, and it had to be repaired immediately: I was then told there was a 2 week wait, as they were too busy. A day later, they were happy to do the work, and charged me $400, as there was "no warranty". 2 weeks after the serpentine belt went on the car. I called them again, and was told there was a 3 week wait: I had it replaced by my usual mechanic for $200 the next day. 3 weeks after that, while travelling on 95 in CT with my daughter, the brakes went, and had to have an emergency repair down there: the mechanic showed me the brake pad, and there was nothing left on it. That cost me another $1140.00. I immediately called Kensington and went directly to vm: I called again later, and got the same. They never responded. So a $3000 "mechanics car" cost me another $1700 in repairs for leaky fuel lines and bad brakes: I caution you against buying a car from these folks. Frank read more

So after a few RIDICULOUS and OUTRAGEOUS estimates to have some H&R springs installed in my Explorer, I called Kensington Autoworks and they got back to me with a VERY fair estimate including the alignment necessary after the install. I felt relieved that I didn't have to be bullied and made to feel bad because I wouldn't accept an outrageous estimate (for almost twice as much) and pay someone else's debt/overhead. These guys didn't mess around and the work was completed in a very reasonable amount of time. The customer is happy and that's what matters most. I don't like to leave my truck anywhere, but this is one place, and probably the only place, I will trust with my vehicle. Thank you and A+++. read more

But, we have had some vehicle inspections done by Kensington Autoworks, they are always professional and friendly. If we needed auto repairs I would give them a shot for sure. read more

What a pleasure it has been. I bought a 1997 540i a few years ago and it has been hands down one of my favorite vehicles ever. Never had any real issues with it, other than high maintenance costs, but that's very well expected with a vehicle of that caliber. I was also a frequent user of their service department. My other vehicle was an E36 BMW with one too many miles, however, much like the 540i, it was also very close to me. Sadly though, that car left Germany as an automatic. In 2011 I decided to change that. Kensington Autoworks completed a 5-speed manual transmission swap on the vehicle and it was absolutely perfect. At the time, I was not as mechanically inclined, but speaking today as a BMW Technician, I really appreciate the quality of work. When doing this swap, most people overlook what is called a "neutral safety switch" which prevents the vehicle from being started when in gear. Kensington Autoworks completed everything just as if it left the factory that way. I had a terrible experience with Kensington Autoworks... avoid this place like the plague! I recently brought my BMW in for an inspection as a first time customer recently moving from Exeter to South Hampton. I was planning to list the car for sale and I wanted to make sure there were no major issues but I did not want to pay for any unneeded repairs. When I called the next day they said my car had failed and needed $1,500.00 in repairs to pass. The issues listed were as follows: frozen brake caliper, torn rear trailing arm bushing, and front and back window tint too dark. When I asked why the repairs would cost so much they said they would need to replace both calipers as well as the pads and rotors on both sides. I decided to bring my car to another mechanic that I trusted just over the border in Massachusetts to get a second opinion. This honest man was able to replace the one frozen caliper and the pads on one side. He said that BMW does advise replacing both calipers, pads, and rotors but that it was not required to pass inspection. He also tried to find the problem with the trailing arm bushing but couldn't find anything wrong...the total cost of repairs was $400. He advised me to have the window tint measured using a tint meter which he did not have (I later learned that most auto repair shops do not own one of these...even those that are licensed to perform NH inspections...(sort of makes you wonder how they can perform tint inspections without a meter but that's another discussion for another time). I had owned the car for three years always having the same tint since I bought it...from a previous NH owner. In three years nobody has ever mentioned the tint being a problem in previous inspections so I took the advice I was given and brought it to someone with a meter (also in MA) to have the tint measured. They showed me the NH law which states that the front windows cannot be tinted at all and the rear windows need to be less than 30%. The front and back windows both metered at 33% and it cost $150.00 to make it legal. Although this was a big hassle and costly I can't say they were technically wrong for failing the tint. At this point I still did not have a NH sticker so I brought it to a repair shop that I trusted in Exeter. They looked the car over one more time and passed it. I spoke to the mechanic who said he looked closely and could not find anything wrong with the trailing arm bushings. You can decide for yourself but I believe this was a "made up" problem. read more

Awful customer service and consideration for their customers time. After waiting about an hour for my car to get inspected, they inform me that my car would not pass due to a missing piece of my bumper that I was planning on getting fixed soon. It was 100% cosmetic, everything else passed. It would have been great to know from the beginning so I wouldn't have to waste my time or pay twice for an inspection. After multiple calls to the office and receiving not ONE call back, I will never bring another vehicle here (nor will my family). Not to mention they tried to fix an issue with my power steering twice with no luck. The owner of the Body Shop that I used was able to quickly identify the issue and it was not what KAW tried to fix multiple times. That has to tell you something.
