Ken's Optical is a hidden gem in Bakersfield. Location is not prime, but not bad. They don't have an on-site optometrist, but they fill your prescriptions AND they use your existing frames, unlike so many other places. In fact, they cut your lenses in-house to fit your frame while you wait. Matt is very accommodating and does everything he can to provide you with the best service - personal and professional. It's tough to find good service these days. They took my insurance which was great also! He took time to educate me on the different types of lenses and answered all my questions. If you are looking to purchase frames, they do have a wide variety but they are somewhat limited to the kinds of brands they carry - they don't carry any high fashion brands but that's a preference rather than necessity. I highly recommend this place. This is now my go to after getting prescriptions. read more

Ken's Optical is the BEST​ place to get your glasses in Bakersfield. I shopped at a number of optical businesses in town. One wanted to "get me into their system" and "have their technician assist me" when I only wanted to look at frames. Another had the audacity to ask for my date of birth just to shop! When they insisted on having my birth date merely to look around, I walked out. No other business has ever asked me for my date of birth simply to shop. Then I went to see Matt at Ken's Optical. Matt was great! He was fine with me bringing in my own frame. The glasses he made are well done, fit well and are much thinner than my old lenses. He is a pleasure to work with. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the service I received at Ken's Optical. A lens on my younger brother's glasses popped out. He's disabled and his regular optical shop was closed - he wasn't sure what to do. I happened to be visiting from Nashville and so I called Ken's and Matt said it would be no problem to fix them. Matt was very friendly and knowledgeable, as was the young woman working with him. He fixed my brother's glasses and then told us there would be no charge! Here recently my glasses became destroyed and had to recently go in to order a new pair FAST because I felt like I was blind. I went in and didn't even mention the urgency of needing them. Matt (seems like he's been there forever) recognized right away the need and urgency for it just by looking at my prescription. He put them in the expedite orders and they arrived 2 days later. This place is great! I recently had cataract surgery followed by urgent retina surgery fur to part of my natural lens breaking off and falling behind my eye. I called to see if they could put a clear glass on my glasses for the operated eye. He said "sure" come in tomorrow.. i will order the glass right now. So I found myself at Ken's Optical yesterday (April 4, 2018) due to being in need of a replacement nose pad for my Oakley Tincup prescription glasses. It had been over 2 years since I had been there last (February 24, 2016) and when I walked in they acted like I had just been in there the other day. They are always so friendly! The reason I was there was my glasses that I bought 2 years ago had lost one of the nose pads and I was hoping they could order me new ones. Well they didn't need to order me any because they had them in stock and replaced both nose pads and wouldn't even charge me. I was there for about 5 minutes (long enough to pick out some new frames - I'm going to go back and get them on Monday) and they were handing my glasses back to me telling me to have a good day! These people truly care about their customers, taking all the time necessary to provide a product and service that is better than anything you could imagine, especially if, as in my case, your requirements are difficult. It took them time and a great deal of research to find the frame that I needed - and they came through! I got to Kens optical today. When I got there, he had already closed up. I asked if I could leave my glasses because they needed to be fixed. He said, I'll fix them for you right now! So he took my glasses, opened the store door and went in to fix them. A few minutes later he brought them back out all fixed. I said, how much? He said "free".
