High quality floors…read more The home had two new additions, each addition had a new concrete slab poured against the existing slab. These transitions had slightly uneven concrete since it was not seamless. One of these, Florin poured self leveler, albeit not nearly enough, the other he did not. The floor prep was not done correctly and now in both areas I have cracked flooring down my entire kitchen, as well as in the middle of my living room. I am talking 25' of continuous cracks right over the uneven concrete. The floors depress over 1/2" when you step on them. At first I thought i could live with it, so didn't complain, but as time went on it got worse and worse. Now the floors cut your feet. I had Florin out to inspect, and he gave me the typical contractor excuse that its a high traffic area and floors are cupping bc they are vinyl. (how can floors depress 1/2" if its installed on flat concrete?) I have built several homes and also work in the trades. The only 2 places in the home where this cracking exists are exactly down the fault lines of these two uneven concrete surfaces. Cupping does not cause planks to split in two at each seam. He tried charging me nearly 25% of my entire 3000sqft floor install to fix this 100sqft section, which no guarantee it will work or look good. This is clearly a workmanship error and I am so tired of contractors not taking accountability for their mistakes. Florin is one of those guys. Avoid doing business with him. For $100 in materials and spending 1 hour to float the floor properly, this could have been avoided. All slabs are going to have uneven surfaces from settling etc. A good flooring guy will take a level out and make sure to fill any voids. My floors are ruined and will need to replace now the entire great room and add a seam to make it look right. $5000 mistake.

Another job well done - many flaws repaired, and no more clacking and popping noise as you walk across the floor. Great job guys - you're our new go-to for flooring.

The shelf needed some custom trim work done to match the wood stain and overall design. I asked for a "built in" look for the bookshelf given its large size, so it feels like a main feature in the room. From start to finish, Eric exceeded my expectations for the project. He was a pleasure to work with, very responsive to my requests, and fairly priced for the work he did. The fact that he has a design background in addition to carpentry skills set him apart from other woodworkers and "handymen" in the area. (I hate to even throw that handyman term out in relation to Eric because he is truly an artist!!!) We had a very small residential job--a couple cabinet doors and drawer faces needing aligned and some "soft close" drawer mechanisms fixed. I called and spoke to James on Jan 15th Monday. He agrees to come over the next morning, Jan 16th Tues. He informs me during the call that he has a $100 trip charge and he'd need to come assess the situation with our drawers as he may not have some of the parts available. "Ok no problem." He arrives, makes a few adjustments, seems nice enough and explains his business is not far away in Mesa. We pay the $100 trip charge + 1hr of labor ($185 total). He actually worked for 45 minutes, which I know because I have cameras with time stamps from the time he walks in with tools to the time he left. James says he needs to source parts to fix the drawers and he'd get back to us. "Sure no problem" About a week passes and I hear nothing so I finally text him Jan 22nd to check status--he texts back the next day that he found parts ($200) and estimates 1.5hr labor plus another $100 trip charge ($433+). I said "really another trip charge?" He states "yes I have a trip charge for all of my installs." At this point I just felt like we were being fleeced. His business is less than 20 minutes away in Mesa (we're in South Scottsdale). He essentially left with the job incomplete and made $185; having barely done anything. I explained to him that I felt another trip charge seemed excessive but he did not respond. I could MAYBE understand the trip charge if the travel distance was significant or if it was a large-scale, complex job that required transporting a lot of equipment & material but this was neither. We are a normal family in a residential home. We are not a commercial entity that can write blank checks to contractors for ridiculous and frivolous charges. Customers be aware he may try to run up the bill on you and could leave you hanging. I do not think this is a very prudent business practice and he certainly does not seem to put the customer first.

Once the contract was signed and I had picked an installer to work with, the work began within days. Not weeks, not months, DAYS. One of the cabinets arrived with a little damage, and he had a new one ready to go by that afternoon. This is not my first rodeo, and typically when something is damaged, it takes a week or more for a claim to be processed, throwing the whole project and other trades behind. I was shocked! The installers he recommended were also great, and so professional! They worked with our plumber, flooring and countertop people to make sure everything went smooth. They were also so friendly as well as knowledgeable. They were clean and didn't act bothered when I asked questions and were very patient with me. I would highly recommended Chasen Cabinets when getting quotes! I'll be using them from here on out!
