Worst dinning experience in my life! The eggs were cold and scrambled hard when I requested them soft. The bacon was baked in the morning and was sitting around until I ordered around 10:15am, and was cold and greasy. The hashbrowns were also cold, hard and inedible. I put the plate on the edge of the table and the waitress asked if everything was OK. I told her the food was not good. The owner came to my table while I eating my toast, and told me if I didn't like the food, I should have complained when the food came out and it could have been remade, and that other people didn't have a problem with it. She also told me that there are other restaurants in town and maybe I should go there. She was extremely rude. All I said was that the food was bad. I never asked for a refund or anything off my bill. I was sick after 25 minutes of eating there. The food is not kept at a proper serving temperature. read more

Tried Kelcy's again, servers are out of this world sweet and attentive. But someone needs to tell the owners, the food is not good. The burger had an extremely thin patty (McDonalds kid size burger patty). The other meal the beef was over cooked and dry. Grilled cheese for $11 and no fries. Ridiculous pricing. Food extremely over-priced for portion sizes and when you get a plate that only has 1 item because all the sides cost extra and you just paid $16 for hardly anything, it's very disappointing. read more

My family has been visiting Kelcy's for over 30 years now and enjoy the down home atmosphere and friendly service. Unfortunately the level of food quality has really dropped off. A few days ago while shopping, we stopped in for pie and coffee. The coffee was barely luke warm and we had to ask the waitress to warm it up in the microwave. The cherry pie I had was really the worst I've ever had. On a previous visit for dinner I had a burger and fries. The fries had way too much salt so ask for unsalted and add yourself. The burger patty was very small, overcooked and dried out. Hoping things turn around here but not too sure when we'll ever visit again. read more

This is a quick spot off 58E in downtown Tehachapi. It's right across the railroad museum where there is a little play park for little kids. The service was phenomenal and the breakfast very delicious! The biscuits and gravy was top notch not too thick not too runny. The avocado toast meal was great. The avocados were fresh and beautiful. The eggs were poached perfectly. The prices are extremely reasonable. The Farmer Brothers coffee was freshly brewed and refilled every time my mug was empty. As a Tehachapi native, all I can say is that this may be the same sign and building, but it is not the same Kelcy's. The staff and service are fine, but the food I've had since they reopened, is sub par, and I even gave them a few chances with different items. Visited the restaurant on Saturday 04/30/22. The breakfast was delicious. I was starving , therefore I did not have the opportunity to take a picture. I ordered the eggs, 2 bacon and 2 sausage with hashbrowns and sourdough. The ordered the bacon extra crispy. I was not fond of the sausage(my taste preference). When I return I will order bacon as my meat option. I as well ordered a orange juice. It was freshly squeezed. I loved the orange juice . Old school diner vibe. It is clean. The staff is friendly and attentive. They get a plus, because they had orange marmalade jelly. My sister in law ordered a healthy breakfast option: the veggie omelet made with egg whites and side of toast- sourdough bread. It looked delicious and she agreed It was topped with slices of avocado . They have options in which you can accommodate if you're meat lover, vegetarian , keto , healthy eating, etc. you just have to request. The breakfast has the option for country potatoes or hashbrowns. All the food that the restaurant patrons were ordering around us looked delicious They also have corn beef hashbrowns breakfast which I will try next time. I was excited about this option. While we were limited to the festival menu, we decided to do the tri-tip sandwich with a cup of chili and a basket of fries. The tri-tip albeit served on a simple french roll, was really tasty. It was tender, cooked medium well, and was juicy. Would have been perfect with some au ju, but I can't complain because it was still probably the best tri-tip I've had. The chili could have used more seasoning. My favorite thing about this place is the friendliness of their workers. The atmosphere is very nostalgic to a classic diner. This diner is adorable. I love the retro vibe. The food was good, despite being given chicken after ordering the vegan alternative. The waiter was very apologetic, and mentioned the buttons for vegan chicken tenders and regular chicken tenders are right next to each other on their POS system. Fixing that might be an easy way to prevent a repeat of this situation. I would definitely come back, but don't want to worry about accidentally being given food outside of my diet. read more

I love a greasy spoon diner, which is exactly what this restaurant is. That said, greasy spoon food, atmosphere, & service should have a greasy spoon price. Considering the quality of the food, etc., this should cost half as much as it does now. My personal experience was basically an Oscar Meyer turkey sandwich melt with griddle toasted winder bread & Kraft Parmesan melted onto the face of it. The other meal was eggs Benedict @ $15.99 price point. The eggs were basically hard boiled. Hollandaise was tepid/lukewarm at best. Hash browns fried in old, burnt oil. They have a bug zapper sitting next to clean cups, just above the coffeemaker/hot water supply. All around, just not good. The FOH people who work there were friendly and did a good job. The air conditioning works. The atmosphere is very laid back and casual. Food? Not worth it. read more

Great place for a large group! I went to Kelcy's for a group event. They have a great room separate from their regular dining area that comfortably held 40+ of us. Service was very good! I arrived a bit late but they took very good care of me. At the end we were presented with our own individual checks and there was absolutely no chaos involved - they made it all so easy! Decided to hit this place up for lunch and was not disappointed. the staff were very attentive and friendly, particularly our server, a Hispanic girl whose name i forgot to ask (give her a raise!). everything was clean and well maintained. the prices were fair. and our lunches were delicious. my friend had the turkey club and I had the tuna melt. no one seems to have tuna melts anymore so I admit I was a little excited to see it on the menu, LOL. I also noticed that the menu offered options for special diets such as vegetarian/vegan; this is useful info for me I can pass along to those who have stricter dietary requirements. while we waited, we got to look at tons of historic photos of downtown Tehachapi that lined the walls, divided up by time period or theme. they made for great discussion to pass the time. the background music gave the place a 50s diner vibe, and it was not overly loud or annoying. we will definitely be back! read more

The service was very good! I went with my aunt and we asked if she could replace the rice/potatoes with a salad since we weren't eating carbs. After that, the waitress made sure not to put croutons on the salad or put dinner rolls on our plate even without us asking because she remembered that we weren't eating carbs. We stopped in here when walking around Tehachapi and we are glad we did. We were told to sit anywhere so we sat down and very quickly we had drinks. Wife had coffee, she said it was good and she must have drank four cups minimum, the refills kept coming. The lady who was serving us was very nice, and she did a good job with food, drinks etc. One of us had steak and eggs and the other had a patty melt and salad. The bathrooms were very clean. There is a large dinner eating are. THE FOOD was xlnt. My omelet was very well made. No thin egg omelet here. The cheese wasn't a few slices of processed cheese slices. What I loved also was the fresh squeezed orange juice. I saved the last gulp for that final flavor in my mouth. They have an alcohol license and serve mimosas. The first restaurant that my wife and I ate in Tehachapi was Kelsey's 45 years ago. When it re-opened we were excited to go there again I know it has re-opened only 3 weeks ago. However, with a very limited menu, I hoped it would be ok. It was terrible. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette and my wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese sandwich was dry and plain. The bread was not toasted and totally dry. The cheese was not melted. My omelette was raw and runny. That was it -- a plain, dry, undercooked meal. With a cup of coffee and a Pepsi, it cost almost $30.00 for lunch! It is a shame when new owners take over a classic and historic business and ruin it. The servers were great and attentive. It was the quality of the food that they served that was sub-par. read more
