    Banana cream pie
    Sandy B.

We were greeted with a smile and cheery hello from Alex. The kind of greeting like you had been away and were coming home. He brought us our menus and we asked about the dessert choices. We settled on a cherry pie à la mode (9/10) and a banana cream pie (10/10) I also had a fresh cup of decaf which had an awesome flavor. It's a nice vintage vibe with fun decor. We will head back for a meal next time. Thanks Alex for winning us over and making our time so enjoyable.

Returning today. Impressed with all the vegetarian/vegan options. I ordered the veggie soup, lots of noodles and potatoes, not so many veggies. Very good flavor though ai would order again. Vegan chili is just ok, kind of sweet, can't tell if this is from a can but kind of tastes like it. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. We had a great visit and can't wait to return. P.s. EAT ALL THE PIE

Food was ok. I ordered the chicken wrap... tasted a little too salty for me. Not sure the sauce they put in it but it was just ok. Wife ordered the grilled chicken burger protein style... super basic. Service was good, a little slow getting food but friendly service. Ambiance was good, felt like I was in an old diner from 1970. Definitely a mountain community diner. Old booths and a lot of memorabilia on the walls. Food -3 Service - 4 Ambiance-2 Total 3

    Way over cooked eggs Benedict
    Richard F.

I've lived in Tehachapi since 2016 and finally got around to trying this place, I enjoy a good eggs Benedict from time to time so that is what I ordered but the eggs were way overcooked that I couldn't eat it and had to ask for eggs to be cooked softer but when the new eggs came back, they were undercooked! The hollandaise sauce wasn't too bad but in the end I would have rather had the same breakfast at Denny's for better food and a cheaper price. My wife and I will never go back.

Visited Kelcy's for the first time, and it was amazing! Just your old fashioned diner which I love. The side salad was honestly one of the best salads I've had in a long time. The little cubed croutons were good and do yourself a favor and get the balsamic dressing! The chocolate cream pie was delicious, I loved the little chocolate chips on it. Sweet and light. The menu had a lot of great versatile things from sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, fries, chicken baked goods, and homemade potato salad! Nothing gets better than that. The service was fantastic. I didn't get the gal's name but she was the sweetest person ever. She said she was the restaurants "birthday committee". You know who you are, I loved your service and energy. Until next time, Tehachapi.

Overpriced but excellent service and really vintage atmosphere. We got some sandwiches and fries. It tasted fine but just average. We came here because the famous sandwich bakery place across the street was loud and full of customers. We wanted a more relaxed lunch and this was great for that. We were the only guests in the place. I really liked the historic photos everywhere . Nice restroom.

Banana cream pie!!!! Sooooo flipp'n good.

The only downside is it does take a while to get your order because they're busy, but that sandwich was worth waiting for, and it made the miles from Tehachapi to Mojave speed by

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

Most of the restaurants I was interested in on YELP were closed on Sunday nights, so we took this reco from a local and ran with it. The service was warm, friendly and attentive. I had heard that the shrimp tacos were good, and I was hungry, so I ordered the dinner. My husband got the Carne Asada dinner. I got a very reasonably priced glass of Chardonnay, which I sipped as I studied the selection of tequilas lined up behind the bar. We were also brought chips and salsa right away. The chips are good, but more like packaged chips than fried chips. I sipped my wine, and enjoyed the ambience of this "local's" restaurant. It is the kind of place that your small office goes to for a celebration lunch, or for casual drinks after work. It has that casual vibe combined with affordable pricing that makes it popular. Our dinners came quickly and we enjoyed the hearty dishes. The food is kind of American-Mexican, as there was tartar sauce on my shrimp tacos. The shrimp were plump and there were plenty of them.
