I took my inherited snowtop mink to Tommy for conditioning and reshaping, and I was quite pleased. He altered the coat shape to something more modern and fitted with better fixtures, he repaired the fur and brought it back to life, and replaced the lining with something I chose from a variety of classic and fashionable options. He explained the entire process to me so there was no confusion to what I was getting. He gave me options for the lining, cuffs, and pocket placement. They even removed the old label and affixed it to the new lining so I could keep a link to my grandma. I had 2 fittings and the entire process took appx 7 weeks since it needed a lot of repair, but it was ready in time for winter. So far so good. A close friend recommended Keims for my mink coats. Neither had been conditioned in a while and one I wasn't sure if it could be savaged. Tommy was straight forward and knowledgeable. Although a bit pricier than I typically pay for storage I am happy due to the cost to refurbish my favorite coat of the two. This has been my go to place for years to store my furs...excellent customer service. Prices are very reasonable and I usually get my letter in the mail before the coats need to go in as a reminder, plus 10% off the total bill. Tommy is amazing and does a great job of cleaning, treating and storing my furs. They always come out looking shiny and healthy. I am comfortable with the fact that my furs are not only being kept in a controlled environment, but that no one is wearing them while they are in storage...that was a big concern of mine as I always remember my Gram seeing her coat one day on a woman while shopping (pre Seinfeld episode). Keim Furs is a Ravenswood boutique sells fur coats, and accessories along with some leather items. The shop also repairs fur garments and houses a refrigerated storage vault on-site for customers seeking to keep their pieces in a climate-controlled environment during the humid summer. Quality is high. They have on hand many types of furs and the design of some coats were quite up-to-date cut. You'll have to be buzzed into this location...FYI Now I realize there are folks out there that will detest this review, but if you wear any type of leather shoes then you too are guilty as those animals are also kept to just be harvested..........that goes for you folks that eat hamburgers as well........but enough of the PETA debate. Prices were affordable with mens fur lined coats running around $3000 and full length coats for women running around $15000 to $19000. I didn't see anything over $25000 which for Chicago shocked me a bit and actually seems affordable. Excellent customer service. I took a vintage blue fox to get cleaned. When I purchased it, it had a strong cigarette smell. They polished the fur and reduced the tremendously. They also cleaned the fur twice because it needed extra care since it's old and didn't charge me anything extra. The men there are extremely knowledgeable about furs and how to maintain them. Additionally, they only charged me $60 for cleaning and polishing. Highly recommended. Their fur selection is beautiful as well. read more

Keim Furs is run by Tommy Theodoridis. He charged me $500 to repair my winter coat. I have been back several times for the same repairs of what was not fixed correctly and what held up less than a month and tore again. As one of many examples, I paid for new pockets. They were not done. My original torn pockets were still there!! Tommy is rude, screams and charges for work that is shoddy and incomplete. My husband and I asked for a refund and he refused. I will no longer do business with this company and this man. I will pay again to have my coat fixed somewhere else rather than wasting my time constantly going back to Keim furs for the same repairs that are never repaired correctly. And most importantly, I will not be verbally abused by this owner !! Beware!! read more

I was told that the cost of shortening a coat would be about $100-$200 but the bill was nearly double. I sent an email requesting an itemization of charges, it was ignored, so I called about 2 weeks later to inquire about the status and make an inquiry about the charges. First he starts yelling that I don't have a written contract assuring me of delivery date. I informed him of the rules or oral contracts. So for the cost break down and he starts yelling again that he is not ripping me off. It seems to me that anyone who resists a reasonable question has something to hide. I've been going to Macy's fur vault for years and finally got fed up and FIRED THEM! I brought my mink jacket to Keim Furs for the 1st time in spring 2015 and their prices for cleaning, storage and to fix a tear in my lining were about 80% less than what Macy's wanted to charge me. My grandmother left me a fur coat, and I took it to Keim to have it turned into a long vest. They did such an amazing job! From the initial appointment where I brought in the coat, to my fitting, to when I picked it up, the service was personal and professional. They proposed a design that would repurpose some of the sleeve material into a beautiful collar (my grandma was much smaller than I am) and helped me keep the original lining with her initials in it. My mom bought me a mink 30 years ago. It has been hanging in the closet for all these years. My mom passed away last christmas. Early this december I thought about the coat. I decided to take the coat to a furrier and have it altered. My sister was doing the same with her beaver coat and had gotten many referrals from friends who have been going to Keim for coat storage and alterations. Tommy had many ideas on how to improve on the coats design to update the style. He said think about shortening it above the knee (original was mid calf). Let me take it in on the sides and make it more fitted and lets remove the shoulder padding. This coat was also reversible with a rain coat . Tommy said the coat was worth the investment because of the type of fur and the patch style design. He actually had to work on two coats. I wanted to think about it and he was fine with that. He was not pushy and very kind and attentive. I went to Macys and tried on many minks just to get an idea on the changes Tommy had in mind. I decided to trust Tommy and today I picked up the coat. It is absolutely perfect. It suits my personality. I am so comfortable in the coat where as before I was not. He had the vision that I didn't. I love the coat and I will be wearing it often. He truly revived the coat into the 21st century and added a beautiful hood that he made from the length that he removed. I had been a customer at Keim's for over 15 years and was treated very poorly today. I fell on the sidewalk in the process of walking toward the store, and injured my right knee severely. I've had two surgeries on it. and was in a great deal of pain when I went into the store. With a bad case of pre-exisitng laryngitis, I tried to tell the owner about my injury, I sat down on a chair near the counter and tried to relate how badly I felt now after the fall, and asked if I could please have a drink of water. A man in the back of the store hurried to bring me some and must have heard my request without difficulty. The owner repeatedly told me he couldn' t hear me and was very dismissive and very rude. I told him again I had fallen and was in pain. He continued to tell me he couldn't hear me and grabbed my coat and asked me what my name was by saying: "F-E-L-L," what is your name? I told him that he didn't need to be sarcastic and evidently had heard everything I had said right from the start. I told him how long I had been a customer and had started going to the store when the original owner, graciously had cared for all of his customers. He said he didn't care. With great difficulty and completely humiliated, I tried to rise from the chair without any help and almost fell. Again, I was able to get up with much pain and left with my coat. I told him I could not believe anyone could be so cruel. I hope others who consider buying from, or storing their coats at Keim's would think long and hard before giving any of their hard-earned money to this arrongant, dismissive and thoughtless man. Had used Keim Furs years ago under different management/ownership. The other storage places I had used closed and the one I used last year was too far. I called Keim and their pricing had lowered, so gave them a shot. Went to pick up my coats 2 weeks ago and they looked amazing! They were shiny, cleaned and repaired. Have had furs cleaned over the years here...always did a great job. Recently brought in a tough alteration on a leather and fur vest. They did a great job in 1 week (most fur alterations run 3 weeks as it's laborious work). They found matching fur, matched the lining and strengthened the stitches. Great job! read more
