My bathroom was very outdated and probably hadn't been updated since the house was constructed in 1960. I met with more than five contractors and from the start, Yovel proved he had experience, a point of view on what would work for us, and an easy going manner. LB's quote was fair and they were upfront about potential change orders or other costs that might come up (not surprising for such an outdated bathroom!). Throughout the project, Yovel kept me updated on progress and sought my opinion when different options were available on how to proceed. In one instance, he came up with a great way to cut the tile so I could avoid paying for a whole extra box. The updates were particularly important for me because I didn't stay at the house during this renovation, because this was my only bathroom. I gave me the peace of mind that everything was under control when I couldn't personally be there to oversee things or give input. The bathroom turned out AMAZING and it's easily my favorite room in the house now. I would happily work with them again on my next home renovation.

They also did an excellent job cleaning up when they were finished with the project, which I always appreciate and thinks speaks volumes about their professionalism. One thing I really appreciate about Dave and his crew is their expertise and willingness to make recommendations, even when some of the recommendations may have reduced the total cost of the job. Let's be very clear, don't call these guys looking for the cheapest bid, they will not be that. Workmanship has been better than what I've seen from previous concrete contractors (albeit others were cheaper) Bohannan does best when you have a drawing with "detail" specs. I liked the pre-pour preparation steps, post-pour joint management and the final clean towards the end. Things I don't like are project delays and fine line cracks that are too small to re-pour but still obviously visible. Some of the fine lines may be attributable to a hot weather pour. All in all though, they took precautions and did not take needless shortcuts. Communication was slower than normal, our project manager is in his 80's, so don't expect speedy texts and emails.

The bigger their project, the worse their experience. Amirite? I'm here to tell you, we are the unicorn that actually loved our contractor. We did a major remodel, addition and ADU project with Hubert / Plus One Construction. Which turned out more complicated than a clean tear-down and re-build. I shudder to imagine how it would have gone without Plus One. Hubert was a true partner. Someone we could trust had our best interests through all the surprises that inevitably pops up on a large project. We decided to go into this project without a designer. As it turned out, we were a bit in over our heads. But Hubert takes the time to outline all the options, pros and cons. Way more specific, practical and actionable compared to the dozens of reddit comments you might rabbit hole into when you're posing as a designer. Plus One is not the cheapest per se. We would know because we vetted and received proposals from over 10 contractors. And while I'm usually unreasonably cheap, we just got the right vibes from Hubert. And the vibes were correct. He doesn't ridiculously mark up the work that goes beyond scope. I am a sticker for not getting ripped off, it's almost a psychological hangup. And I never felt Hubert was pulling a fast one. In fact, he goes out his way to go the extra mile, even on things that should have been our responsibility. Even after the "end" of our scope of work, he had his guys come back several times to make sure everything was right. This alone might make him the best value in the long run, even if his starting proposal is not the cheapest. Hubert is pro-active i resolcing issues that might arise with an over-zealous city planning department. According to our neighbors, we live in such a city; but I wouldn't know, mostly thanks to Hubert. He knew our city's codes and how to work with them. In fact, he was offered a job by our city's planning department, they liked him so much. I suspect we got a friendly ref's whistle, so to speak, because our city planners just straight up liked Hubert. I write this after just completing a year+ long project with Hubert and his guys. And I'm not going to lie, we're a bit sad that they will not be in our lives anymore. Ask yourself, have you ever heard anyone say that about their contractor? We were lucky... but you can be too! Hire them and thank me later! (By the way, he did not ask me to write this. I felt compelled. The least I can do to return to return the favor. He did not build it; he made it happen.)
