We have been to a number of bakeries in the area and wish we had known about this sooner. This is more of your traditional asian bakery as opposed to some of the newer fusion ones that cater to younger crowd. Like we couldn't find BBQ Pork Bun at other places until we came here! The bakery is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. It's quite small in there and I can see that it could get crowded when it gets busy. On this day there were only a few patrons. It also looks like they have a rewards program We got Egg tarts, Bolo Bun, Matcha Bun, Red Bean Bun, BBQ Pork ?Bun, and Curry Pork Bun. Everything was good - good size, high qualty. Bolo had the perfect crisp. Buns were super soft and moist with lots of filling. Lots of places you have to take a few bites before hitting filling. These one; first bite! The only slight disappointment was the Matcha bun didn't have a super strong flavor. Staff were fine. You really have to go to them to ask questions as they don't come to you. I don't have any information about the ambiance of this bakery. This is a review strictly for service and food. This incident happened on a Thursday afternoon when my father wanted to buy a cake for his grandson. The three service ladies sat there without addressing my dad. Once he was acknowledged, he had asked for a cake and made an inquiry if it was fresh. Instead of a straight answer, the lady responded, "If I said it was made today, would you believe me?" This kind of service is not worth even 1 star. As for the cake, it was $18 for a square that is equivalent to a 6" cake. We will not be returning here. read more

Okay... Compared to the menu that illustrates all of the baked goods offered, the actual items were a lot smaller. Their croissant was nearly half the size of the ones at the bakeries that we usually go to for the same price. If you're planning on stopping by, I recommend getting their freshly baked items in the glass window and not the prepackaged items. Their egg tarts and chicken pies looked really good and well baked compared to everything else. The interior is very small and cramped due to all of the boxes that they keep out in the open. The shop is located in a popular plaza so it can get crowded, but you shoulder be able to find a spot with everyone going in and out at all times. Not bad. read more

In a busy strip mall next to Chicha San Chen, a busy spot and parking can be a challenge. I came late in the day and many of the baked goods were picked over. My family has been coming to this Kee Wah for several years now after moving to Rowland Heights. My favorites to get here are the Flakey Crust Egg Tart, the Portuguese Tart, Curry Puffs, and the Pineapple Buns. They also have Original Crust Egg Tart if you're into that. The worst accumulated points system! When you purchase many items, they claim their points system is down. Then, when you want to redeem your points for food, they tell you you have less or no points! Additionally, when they inform you of how many points you have, they don't even show it on the receipt. This is a negative star. The ladies that work there don't deserve any of my respect. They are rude and have absolutely no customer service and they careless if you buy or not. I get there a bit early on the way to work and the previous lady used to let me in and I was able to buy some but recently these ladies wouldn't let me in even 15 minutes early. A lady worker was walking in while I was standing in the front door waiting, another lady inside quickly unlocked the door for her to get in. I bought the moon cake, the texture is so moist but the egg yolk is a little dry for me. It's a little bit pricy but it's worth it because of the taste. I grew up eating Chestnut cake from Kee Wah Bakery and throughout 20 years + and at multiple different locations the quality is always great. I like to get my bread and birthday cakes from Kee Wah. This bakery is our go-to spot for delicious pineapple buns and egg tarts. I've been to other Kee Wah locations and the pastries don't seem as fresh as this one. It's conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of restaurants, and while parking spots can be a bit tight, it's never too much of an issue. The storefront is small, but that's never a problem since we know exactly what we want and can grab our treats quickly. Arrived when they opened and the employees were still wrapping pastries and putting them on the trays. Another customer and I were asking one of the employees a question and she was very annoyed and made faces and told us to ask the cashier. Rude. A lot of breads were not displayed and still on trays being placed in clear plastic wrapping. I can say I enjoyed the curry beef puff pastry in the hot display near the cashier. The pineapple buns were soft with a slightly sweet crunch from the topping. They reminded me of a lighter version of a pan dulce. The egg tarts are also a must. They have 3 kinds of egg tarts! I would think that upon opening everything would be ready especially if they want to make their goods accessible to customers. I was able to get what I was looking for. First time here, so had to order the pineapple (bolo) buns!! There were two on the menu, royal and standard, so we tried both. Royal bolo bun: this was the BEST pineapple bun I've had in the area since the bakery near 99 ranch closed. It was so fluffy and rich, and the crust was perfect. Bolo bun (regular): good, but not as good as the royal. There was a definite difference in quality. Not as fluffy, but still good flavor. We will 100% be coming back here to try other things. For this particular store, i would rate and give it 2 stars JUST because of the attitude and service they give you. There is nothing wrong with their food or bread. I would say they are average quality / taste but i would come back on a regular basis for my breakfast. HOWEVER, the attitudes of the ladies there, oh my. Most if not all of the ladies that work there are in their 50s? They would help you but the way how they speak or talk would just give you a feeling that they want to do rush through whatever they do. When you ask them a few questions, they would start relying you in a way they want to finish the conversation very quick and move on OR feel like its a dumb question. I know they are kind of old but they feel like they dont give a "shxt" about their customers. MAYBE its their culture ( old asian generation people ) but thats not an excuse. read more

I LOVE the flaky outer crust of the "crispy egg tart" and the filling is pretty good though I like the filing of the portuguese tarts more. The "original egg tart" tasted more like egg. Just FYI, I like to bring pastries home and reheat them in my toaster oven so it's hot and "fresh" because no one likes a soggy pastry - especially when it is croissant type like the ones I got today. Portuguese egg tart $2. It's small and the egg custard is minimal, but it had a really nice crisp like it should and although $2 is a bit pricey, I would get it again because it was tasty nonetheless. Crispy egg tart $1.80. There are several layers in this and it was nice, but it was not crispy at all and the egg custard inside was generous, but it was pretty flavorless, the flavor of the egg custard in the Portuguese egg tart is tastier (eggy and slightly sweeter). Curry Pork puff pastry $2.70. The puff pastry was fluffy, but the filling did not have enough curry flavor. I would pass on this one. It was also super greasy. BBQ Pork puff pastry $2.70. This is asian style bbq flavor and it's not the "char siu" flavor that I was hoping, but it was still flavorful and tasty. The puff pastry was nice and crispy throughout and I would recommend trying this. Overall, the bakery has a lot of good looking breads, cookies, and cakes for a reasonable price so I would give this place a try. Stopped by here and decided to grab a quick breakfast while waiting for my cousin. Came about 30 minutes after their opening time and the shelves with the fresh bread seemed empty, so I asked the lady behind the counter about it. She then said something to another employee in the back and that worker brought out the fresh bread still in the trays on the rack. Mind you this place is already small and tight as it is for one person, so when she brought out the rack, it basically was in the way. There were about two other people that wanted to look, so I offered to let them go first because there was absolutely no way I could grab it comfortably. The trays were also stacked closely and some of the items rise higher than others, so it was a bit difficult. I grabbed a pineapple bun for myself and savory cheese bread for my cousin. I wasn't sure what it was since there was no label on the trays. So I do not know if there were any bread cooling off on the shelves there behind her or not but I just find it odd that she has to cut her nails there. Last time i came they sold out their egf custards.. I went back again and they have it.. Nice and warm.. But the taste was disappointing. Custard is okay.. Flaky.. If you like egg tarts, this is the best place in Rowland to go! Their egg tarts are superior to most of the other bakeries in LA. They have 3 types of egg tarts - Original, Portuguese, and Crispy. ORIGINAL Egg Tarts: (3/5) Really great egg taste, but the tart around it is the same as a fruit tart. The crust is a bit hard, so compared to the other two, it's not my favorite. This is the egg tarts that you normally see in other bakeries though. PORTUGUESE Egg Tart: (5/5) This is my personal favorite! I like the glazed/burnt part on top and the crust has the same texture as a croissant. I can literally eat these for days. I do feel like this has less egg custard than the Flakey Egg Tart, however. CRISPY Egg Tart: (5/5) A lot of my friends like this one more! This one has multiple layers and is really flakey. I also feel like this one has more egg custard part. They also have a reward point system where you give them your phone number and you get 1 point for every item you order from them. When you get 10 points, you can get $1 off, so it's about 5-10% off. At higher points though, you can even exchange for some pretty cool prizes such as Panda Bags, Aprons, Cushions, or even MORE EGG TARTS. Definitely one of my go-to place for egg tarts!
