I admit I hold grudges and do not forget when I receive bad service. Fortunately, I do not have to do either of these when it comes to Ken at Kean's Automotive. My family has been bringing our cars to Ken for more than 20 years and we are all pleased with his work ethic and honesty. He treats us fairly and is pretty quick with the repairs. He also is very good about accommodating our work schedules by letting us leave our car overnight for service the next day or pick it up when we can following the work. Sure, over the years, there may have been a time or two when he had to pinpoint an issue that was not completely fixed, but he would jump right back in to diagnose the problem and make it right. My car broke down on the fwy and I had it towed to anyplace AAA would tow it to. This other place quoted me a completely ridiculous amount of money to fix my car! A friend of mine recommended Keans auto and told me of their wonderful experience with Kean, and promised me I would not be disappointed. I had my car towed to Keans auto the following day. Kean was extremely honest, professional, reliable, and informed me of exactly what was wrong with my car. He kept the old, broken parts to show me what had gone wrong...and on top of everything else positive, he was extremely reasonable! I'm so glad my friend recommended Keans Auto to me. I trust him...he's both an honest mechanic (which is hard to find) and extremely reasonable with his prices. I found my new mechanic and will be referring friends to him from now on. read more

Went in to get my car inspected for a potential problem that another mechanic told me it had that I was suspicious was just trying to upsell me. Got a second opinion by Ken on the fly during a break at work and he told me within ten minutes that it was basically fine. He didn't even charge me to look at it. That's how you build trust and rapport. I'll take my car to him from now on because this industry is shady and there aren't many honest people like Ken. read more

I've always done my own repairs but occasionally, over the last 15 or so years, I used this shop when I didn't have the time or the inclination to do a job myself. My wife's car developed a stuck open thermostat and wouldn't reach full operating temp. Not a check engine light problem but still a fault condition, the A/C wouldn't work. I had the parts but not being a big fan of working with anti-freeze (we have cats) I stopped by the other morning and asked Ken how much to change the thermostat. He quoted me $50 to $75. That sounded very reasonable to me so I left the car there all day. Late that afternoon I picked it up and he showed me a bill for $260!!! Sensing my outrage and his lack of a comprehensible explanation he took a whopping $30 off. In my mind this was just a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. Adding insult to injury, driving home I could tell the cooling system wasn't acting right. After things cooled down (me included) I discovered the air wasn't bled from the system, a fairly simple procedure that I did myself, and I'm not even a "professional" getting $130/hr. If left unchecked this could have permanently damaged the engine. I don't know what's going over there but strongly suggest buyers beware. read more

I was really disappointed with the service I got at Keans. My car was running great except for the occasional water leak. Ken said he'd put it on the scope. He changed some hoses, my water pump and changed my oil. When I got my car back, it ran horribly. It wouldn't shift properly and wouldn't go faster than 20 mph up a hill. I took it back and his explanation was that it coincidentally broke down right after he worked on it. He tried insinuating I was lying and maybe it wasn't running so good before I took it in. If he actually put it on the scope, wouldn't he have seen a problem? I was referred to him by a family member because they felt he was honest and knew his job. Well, my experience doesn't prove this to be true. I'll be looking for a new mechanic. One that really does stand behind his word. read more

When i went to them for a smog issue i assumed that that they would detect the issue and or issues and repair them and and get certification. After some three hundred dollars worth of work they got the check engine light to go out and tested the vehicle only to find it was a gross polluter. I was informed that it had to be the need for a tune up which i did my self and returned to them for testing still no change in the smog test so i was told it had to be the EGR system or the catalytic converter and that they had checked the EGR system and itt was working properly i again took the vehicle back and replaced the converter with a high efficiency model noting that the converter taken out seem to be visually ok i also changed the air filter. Then took it back for a smog check slightly lower but still in the gross polluter range. Kean then said it must be the EGR system vacuum lines so i left the vehicle with him two days later he calls and says the vehicle passed smog and that i owed 364 dollars. i was shocked what did i owe this for a retest for the smog , certificate once already paid for an oxygen sensor and some work on the vacuum lines to the EGR already stated to be working properly . My total bills for an engine temperature sensor and oxygen sensor and and test of the egr valve and two smog tests was almost 700 hundred dollars. Not to mention the misdiagnosis of the catalytic converter and need for a tune up another 220 dollars fortunately done by myself . I could have just bought everything myself saved half of the cost and got it right the first time not changed something and then guessed at problems or failed to properly go though the complete EGR system. To say the least for someone who knows something about cars and repairs Keans is to be avoided unless you want to pay big bills for small things read more

"0" is my rating. Very sad. Several years ago took my automotive business to Keans. Ken is the owner. I was loyal to Ken for at least three years. Ken used to loan his truck to me while he worked on my vehicles for various reasons. I always payed my bills. I never hesitated to ask questions however I never complained and was quite happy with his attitude and service. I would recommend Keans to people for service. Over time I noticed his quality had become lax. I found myself in a financial bind and was forced to be more frugal with my spending. I am not a mechanic however I am mechanically inclined and have worked on cars and trucks since I was a pre-teen in the 1960's. I needed new breaks and decided to change them myself. I had a 1997 Chevy Silverado 2500. I sold the truck last year. I had changed the breaks before however, Keans Automotive was the last to perform the task. In order to remove the hub cap I had to first remove the plastic lug nut caps. As I removed the first one, to my shock not only did the plastic cap come off but the lug came off with it. As I continued and removed two more plastic caps that were fused to the lugs, pieces of the plastic hub cap fell out from behind the cap. To my TOTAL amazement as I removed the wrench the entire hub cap fell off. I still had two or three lugs to go. If you've ever changed a tire the metal lug nuts have to be properly tightened THEN any beauty accessory is connected. After replacing the breaks and lug nuts I confronted Ken, and presented the lug nuts which were still wrapped in black plastic to him. He denied any involvement. I explained to Ken exactly how dangerous it was to send me down the road with wheels that could have loosened and potentially flown off the truck putting myself, my children and other drivers at risk of injury and or death. Ken indignantly offered to pay for half the cost of the hub caps. He was very adamant in his stance and would pay only after I located and payed for the new hub caps first. As politely as I could I explained to Ken how he could fit those hub caps up his ass,,, sideways. I found out later that he had his way with me and my wallet through another repair he had performed. He got me for about $750 on that one. I had a leak in the heater core which Ken said was only accessible be removing the dash. Years later I needed to have the dash removed again in order to replace the solenoids/motors that controlled the louvers that directed the flow of air along the dash. The mechanic working on my truck approached me and asked if I'd ever had the heater core replaced. I said, "well ya. How did you know and why would you ask?" He showed me where the previous shop, Keans had cut a hole in the plastic part of the dash that covered the heater core and made the swap without removing the dash. Then they glued and screwed the piece back on saving Keans quite a few hours of labor yet still charging me the full amount for the repair. Beware the smiling man at Keans. He's patting you on the back with one hand and picking your pocket with the other. read more
