Ahh... after years of searching, I have found a rival for Round Rock Donuts. KC makes great raised donuts - I was in heaven when I bit into the strawberry glazed one. The dough is so soft and gives into the bite... a heavenly experience. Their cases of donuts look all freshly made, not like they have been sitting our for half a day. I love freshly made anything and this checks the box. I also tried Boston creme, which was a thicc donut. It was tasty but I wish it was a little smaller so it could be more flavorful/manageable to eat. The cake donuts are goo, not great. They are too sweet, especially the maple one. My partner tried their kolache and he loved it. The workers were very helpful and even though there was a line, it moved quickly on the weekend day that we dropped by.

The perfect powdered donut holes do exist. Crispy and powdery goodness, here! They have kolaches pigs in a blanket, tacos and other savory items aside from the donuts. Friendly and fast staff. This place has become our staple go-to on Saturday mornings. Have tried at least 6 other donut places in Austin, and we finally found our donut place!

Cute little donut shop on Brodie Lane. There is always a line but it moves quickly. I am not a huge sweets fan but I wish I was because everything in the case looks amazing. I got a jalapeño and cheese kolache and it was fantastic.

Easy to see why KC Donuts always has a line! I literally see people either a) come in and take the wait or b) step out of their cars, see the line & leave. KC Donuts has more than just donuts (& those donuts aren't basic either). KC Donuts offers fresh-to-be-made Breakfast Tacos, a variety of gourmet donuts (maple bacon, lemon, blueberry lemon, etc), kolaches, AND MORE. My personal favorite is a classic-- the glazed donut. However, I highly highly recommend ordering the massive Texas-Sized Donut Holes!!!! Also, the Breakfast Tacos and salsa were perfect. You basically order what you want to be made. It does take a bit of time since once again, these need to be made. Kolaches were meh to me, as the ratio of bread/sausage had too much breading. They also have Pigs-in-a-Blanket, but these babies run out fast! Please note: KC Donuts is a small mom & pop shop owned by immigrants. Super sweet people. Be patient & kind, as they are doing their best!

Just to be clear, I AM somewhat of a subject matter expert. I have eaten all manner of fried dough creations from coast to coast, including Hawaii, and I have a lot to say on the topic. My favorite is still Cider Belly in Albany, NY, but I digress. The PB&J donut here is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I dragged it out for 3 days. Even semi-stale, and reheated in the microwave, it was still delicious. I put a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream on it which definitely helped. I also ordered a Heavenly Hash (one of my favorite ice cream flavors BTW) and a Naughty and Nice because I am all about the classics. They were both outstanding. No leftovers. I bought these donuts in lieu of birthday cake this year which may become my new tradition. Honestly, I think these are my new favorite donuts in Austin now.

When we went our choices were $9-$10 donut base desserts. I say base because the toppings cover up the donut visually. Despite that, there's no covering that scrumptious taste and texture. Wowaweea. Yes, you feel your cells expand and pants tighten and it is for sure run club pre and post, but quite worth it. These divine donuts have that cakey interior I love so much. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. With the little IG ready love seats and doughnuts made for sharing, you could walk away with extra sugar.

The audacity Story time, Today I went to the original Round Rock location, downtown Round Rock, to buy my son's birthday donuts, It's tradition. Every year on his birthday he gets a dozen half glazed and half chocolate frosted donuts. Then I get a kolache and a dozen donut holes for myself. Well when I pulled up today the line was wrapped around all the way to Mays street. So I just followed the line of cars and got in line. You'd think that a line that long would take a long time but.... Round Rock donuts has this process down to a T. It took less than 10 minutes to get through that line and get my order. And those donuts came out hot and fresh. So did my kolache. Anywho, Don't let the lines scare you away, Just jump in and know they're going to move quickly. Also, If you're planning an office event or any type of event and you want donuts and coffee or kolaches donuts and coffee, Round Rock donuts offers a great menu for large orders and also they have a cake menu for custom cake orders. If you don't want to stay in line in your car you can also park wherever you can find a spot and go to the walk-up ordering window, It's shaded and there's plenty of space to hang out while your order is being made and brought out to you. All this to say, It's a Round Rock Donut, Happy Birthday to my Son!

For years, I'd heard so much good about them; it was about time to sample their goods. Since it was a weekday and a bit later in the morning hours, the line wasn't too bad. Watching the vehicles flying through the drive-thru, I could see that these folks have it down to a science. Order after order is being handed to their customers with military precision. We got a cinnamon roll and a fritter for the road, plus 6 donuts to take back home with us. The fritter was OK, I've had better. My wife's cinnamon roll was too huge to manage. It was definitely Texas-sized. The six donuts we took home were two blueberry cake donuts, two regular raised donuts, and two filled. The filled donuts were our favorites, along with the cake and the traditional raised. We can now say we've been to the legendary Round Rock Donuts.

The donuts themselves were a bit of a letdown, though. Ours were a little stale -- now, in fairness, we did roll in later in the afternoon, so that might've played a part. But here's the thing: I'm a HUGE donut person. I can eat a donut basically any time of day, no matter how long it's been sitting out. So for them to fall a little flat, especially at the prices they're charging, I was expecting a bit more. That said, it was a nice place to sit and take a break while we were wandering around downtown. Would I make it a regular stop? Probably not -- but if you're on vacation and want to check it out for the experience, it's worth a peek.

Why am I going to one in Austin? Well, it's because I am a completeist and I try to go to as many Voodoo Doughnut locations as I can. Austin has two locations but Steve was only willing to tolerate going to one location so we went here. The doughnuts are going to be about the same as any other location however I did come across one that I haven't seen before. I am not sure if it was limited edition or what but I liked it. It was kind of take on a Black Forest Cake but it wasn't cherries that were on top of the doughnut and cream. It was more like blueberries. It was good and I am glad I tried it! I was really hoping to see the Ring of Fire Doughnut as it's my favorite but I didn't see it here. I got more of a powdered doughnut too as I do like their more basic doughnuts too. Steve got something that almost was like a Dubai-esque Chocolate Doughnut. It had pistachios on it and was a chocolate cake. That one was good too! Atmosphere is weird and quirky like all of their locations try to be which I can appreciate. So if you are addicted to Voodoo Doughnuts or have been wanting to try them but don't plan any PNW trips then definitely swing by the Texas locations. More and more locations are popping up all of the time!

We kept it simple -- fish cone with nutella and ube soft serve. We had the option of swirling it with a milk tea ice cream but it had a little bit of caffeine so no good. Glad the choice was made for us -- the ube was perfect on its own. Also happy we skipped the toppings since the creaminess really came through.
