Second visit to Kay's in as many years. Well established sandwich outpost in Woonsocket, RI. Fine dining over well prepared sandwiches. 50+ years of serving RI . Had a Lobster Roll which was very good as usual. We started with drinks and a Lobster Martini which is basically lobster meat in a martini glass . Very tasty. Servers were fairly fast and efficient. Menu is on a napkin. All sandwiches. Pretty unique , and the restaurant is always busy. Highly recommended. Need to try other sandwiches next time , but I'm fixated when I visit the Boston/RI area to go with a decent Lobster Roll. Never disappoints. read more

Nice ambiance I like the new outdoor patio but honestly I went with my husband had two Philly steak sandwiches two iced teas no appetizers or dessert plus a average tip I kid you not 50 bucks? Unfortunately I think for us that's a bit much for lunch service was satisfactory but just too expensive for what you get. I wish they had an early bird special or something that's a little bit more reasonable I would go there more often but at that price I'd rather just have dinner I think that would be more worthwhile. read more

Waited 10 mins, then waited another 10 after being seated, never even received menus. Buyer beware!

So, so, so disappointed since we were last there in September. The steak was thick, chewy and tasteless. Not the same Kay's we've been going to over the last 45+ years. The service, however, was awesome which has not changed over the Past 45+ years. We may give it another try in a few Months and hope they bring back the original cut of steak that was once served Which gave Kay's the reputation it had back in the 70's through this past summer. read more

5 stars because Kay's is Home. I remember coming here with my grandmother and mother in the late 90s so automatically Kays gives me warm memories. Since then, they've only gotten better. They've lightened up the place and added nachos! What more can you ask for???? A simple place to grab a sandwich and chips. No fried options so no ability to be unhealthy. I have always loved Kay's. I especially love the outdoor dining that was added during the pandemic. But...... they also changed their bread supplier and the sandwiches suffer for it. The bread is too firm, so when you bite into it, all the insides get squished out! I end up needing a fork to finish my sandwich, which ends up not being a sandwich at all. "Good Ol' Kay's" as my local friends say. I now find myself saying it too :) Service = FAST and Friendly (Not overly as in annoying, but polite and concise) Food = Solid and Consistent. For my pescatarian friends, they are thrilled with the Tuna, but even more excited because they recently added Cajun Mahi Mahi to the menu, not the board menu when you walk in, but...the REAL DEAL Napkin menu! The bar is actually pretty big - a horseshoe - never sat in that area, but the patrons always look like they are having a great time in that room. Parking - There are a couple of streets spots in front of the restaurant, but across the street near the new CVS = fresh new parking spaces :) Is it fancy? No. Is it cute? I went for the first time today. The menu is very limited, and no exceptions are made for club sandwiches or bread substitutions. The only roll is a bulky roll, which could be bigger in size. When in Woonsocket Kay's is a must visit restaurant for a lobster roll! The lobster is always fresh and they give a ton of lobster meat on their roll. This past visit I arrived with 3 other people and we were able to be seated right away. When we sat at our table our server came over and took our drink order and then gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. Speaking of the menu...it's on their beverage napkin; pretty neat! The menu is small and they only specialize in a few menu items so whatever you order will taste great! When our server came back to deliver our drinks she took our food orders and within 10-15 minutes all 4 of our rolls were delivered to our table and everything looked great. I was so glad to be eating a lobster roll from New England; I miss them so much since where I live we don't have many places that sells them. My daughter got the BLT and I ordered the tuna fish. Large portions. Sandwiches come with potato chips, pickles and peperoncini. We liked it so much we went back again 7/13 for supper and ate inside. We got the stuffed mushrooms (again), grilled Reuben and pastrami sandwich. Very delicious. Dessert selection is limited. We did try crème brûlée which was good. My dad loves it here, so I have to also, right? Kay's is our go-to spot in Rhode Island to meet up with friends and family when he visits. I have been a handful of times only for drinks, but most recently had some food too. I am a huge fan of their manhattan, as most will note here, but they also made a mean martini. The service was fantastic and I never had an empty glass for long. Recently, I tried the steak sandwich and finally understood the hype. It was very tender and well-made. Went here Monday night for dinner. Nice place with tables, booths, and horseshoe shaped bar in a separate area. The menu is on the napkins, only sandwiches and only about 12 options but they have been voted one of the best sandwich shops in the state, so I was expecting it to be good. I had the steak sandwich, and added cheese and mayo. The bread was very soft, and the meat was extremely tender it melted in my mouth. Hands down the best steak sandwich I have ever had. I was with a group of people who each had something different they all said their food was great. Sandwiches are only served with chips and pickles on the side but I was full after my meal. Have been to Kay's many times in the past 50+ years As I once worked in town. Old menu totally on the napkin, 3-4 sandwiches and chips. Newly upgraded menu, at least to me, had more sandwiches, Italian foods and meats.... lots of new choices. Truely , something for everyone. Very child friendly as there was room to move around and difficult to bother anyone else. Bar now allowed to be open, COVIDLY. Lots of movable plastic between parties. Interior seating very well spaced. Igloos, 6-7 of them, were fun. We never turned on our heaters At feel like temp of 23 outside. Waitress, masked, poked her head through the zippered opening only to take orders and serve. Most had my old favorite steak sandwich (cooked as ordered). We shared a couple of apps, Italian meatballs with a dollop of ricotta. (Very tasty) Wine list much, much better than in the past when your options were red or white. You can't go wrong at Kay's, it is a Rhode Island institution. Tell me where else you will find the menu written out on the napkin!? My go-tos here are the steak sandwich and the lobster roll. They don't skimp out on either! The steak sandwich is super messy, and if you don't eat it fast the bun gets super soggy from all the steak juices. The lobster roll is a traditional New England lobster roll. Last time we were in my mom got their lobster martini, which was a martini glass filled with lobster. Service is always nice here. Since they have such a limited menu they can get you in and out pretty quickly! Definitely recommend if you are in the mood for a sandwich! read more

Absolutely love this place, been here at least 100 times and last Saturday night we were able to make reservations for 2 for outdoor dining. Greeted and sat right away and was happy with our table despite being in the CVS parking lot. It was a beautiful night. Waitress was painfully slow, the drink special was a hurricane which tasted weak and watered down. We each got one and both agreed they sucked. Ordered a roast beef sandwich and asked for it as rare as possible....came out well done. Also a steak sandwich I the cheese, mushrooms and sautéed onions....not very good at all. Not sure if because of the pandemic they have a different supplier, but everything kind of sucked. Waitress didn't come back for a long time or we might have both ordered another drink...not a hurricane though. Why the 3 stars when everything was not good? Because, usually, the steak sandwich and roast beef are excellent. Will definitely be back and I do highly recommend this place....but some of the cooks are better than others. read more

The lobster roll is simply the best and you get a ton of claw and tail meat. I only recently learned this as I thought they were known for their steak and cheese (which is outstanding) but the lobster roll is really what you need to come here for. Limited menu but I think that is a good sign as they perfect what they offer. Love that the entire menu is on a cocktail napkin (genius!). I did not give 5 stars because I do think they overcharge on their alcohol. That is the only critique I have about Kay's. It truly is a great place to eat. read more
