Kayak Kafé has two locations in Savannah, and this one is located in Midtown, right in the heart of the hospital district. Parking can be a bit tight--they share a small lot with a few other businesses--but there's usually street parking nearby as well. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and there's a full bar if you're in the mood for a mimosa or cocktail. The food is fresh, locally sourced, and made in-house--you can really taste the difference. Their menu offers a wide variety of options, and it's clearly marked for food allergies, which is super helpful. I especially love their salads. They're fresh, flavorful, and you can sub out real dairy for vegan cheese, which is a nice touch. My personal favorites are the Vegan Taco Salad and the Shrimp Tacos--both are consistently delicious. In town for a few days had my pup with me and wanted to grab a bite before checking into my hotel. OMG it is HOT in Savannah, I stopped by this Kafe quickly close to my destination. The location was very spacious, and had indoor and outdoor seating. Again I had Di'Nero with me so I had to dine outside, they had specials during the day for drinks and food which is always a good thing. The service was great, I did not get a chance to get the servers name I'm sure she told me, caught her on a shift change so I low key had two servers and no I do not remember the other name either lol do not judge me please I was hungry. The place was empty so I was seated quickly and I literally got my food in minutes. Food was decent. I had the Korean BBQ chicken tacos, I hate giving bad reviews but I have a responsibility to be honest when writing these. The food was extremely underwhelming, and what I mean by that is I could have made a taco just as good or better from home. I also had a drink it was their Hot Honey Daiquiri (do not ask me why, I try different things just so I can tell you all about it), was not to my liking. Kayak Kafe (midtown) was really good! The vegan options are plentiful and rather unique. The food is flavorful and came out quickly. We had a nice server who was new but knowledgeable and able to answer questions since it was our first time in. Vegan cauli wings were crispy and well-sauced. I got franks original sauce but tried the habanero sauce too which was awesome (i bought a bottle of that)! The vegan tater tachos were HUGE and flavorful. Walnut meat vegan tacos were unique and delicious. Would not order the tomato basil soup again or the peach vegan ice cream. The actual food deserve 5 stars. And I would definitely return. But we had a few issues/mixups originating in the kitchen that I just have to take a star off for. Our vegan tater tachos were amazing but accidentally came with no black beans. Similarly, my cauliflower wings that the menu touted would come with vegan avocado ranch came with a some white, very creamy ranch. After one bite I asked the waitress to confirm it was the vegan one and it turns out they'd given me the regular non-vegan ranch. Since vegan food and condiments are getting so advanced it would be hard for many to know that was non-veg if they hadn't focused on the fact that the vegan one was "avocado" so should be a little green. So I'd advise people to go to kayak kafe for sure, but be diligent and ask questions if anything feels off if you have dietary restrictions. And if you're a tourist, this isn't the cutest most scenic area of Savannah so I'd maybe opt for the Downtown location if you want to walk around before or after your meal. Went with a friend for a 6 PM meal on a Friday. Nicely laid out bar and restaurant with plenty of parking available. The menu is lengthy. I had a short rib quesadilla for the first time in my life and it was good. I saw some lifelong friends there and enjoyed catching up with them at the bar after we ate. But the service was comically bad. There were two waitresses and there were only three tables with patrons but they were really struggling with that. My food was delivered and she left without leaving me silverware or a napkin. There was no urgency in anything either of them did and they showed zero common sense. The cilantro cream sauce served on the side MUST be drizzeled over the burritos as it really makes the dish! Burrito comes with Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Sliced Avocado and Melted Pepperjack. Yum! HOMEMADE HABANERO HOT SAUCE - if you like a little spice then top your roasted lime chicken burrito with this delectable sauce. Not sure if it's just togo/uber eats orders or what but the quality on some of the food has been getting worse and worse. Tastes like they prep togo boxes and leave them sitting for days until that item is ordered, they don't include (expensive) sides, and generally just looks lazily thrown together. Kayak Kafe Midtown is a fave. The menu is filled with so many options. From vegan, gluten free, classics, originals, & fun! It is family friendly as well. The restaurant is located right off of Paulsen St in a shopping complex. Their sign can be difficult to see from a far. So be on the look out for it. It is next to my favorite macaron place in Savannah, Marche de Macaron. If you see a sign with macarons at the end of the complex you've got the right place! There is a parking lot for you to park in. But if it is filled you can park on the street. The restaurant is spacious with seating inside or outdoor that is covered. A large bar when you walk in with much counter space & bar seats. They have taken COVID precautions with a scan only with your phone for their menus. And have spaced out their seating for safety. The staff are wearing masks & friendly. I've enjoyed every entree, snack, &/or drink I've had there. This was my first time at brunch. I always love bottomless mimosas! Which they have! They have another location downtown on Broughton street if the midtown location is not convenient for you. But I prefer the midtown location. Because it is spacious, & has parking. I have heard great things about Kayak Kafe from several friends, and I was excited to see their new Midtown Kafe was open. I was in the area one Saturday afternoon and decided to stop in to get lunch to go. We ordered inside at the bar, then waited in the car for the food to be prepared. The Kafe is in a small strip mall with only a handful of other stores. The parking lot is relatively small, and I can picture parking being a struggle during peak hours. Maybe not! When we entered, the Kafe has modern decor and was clean. The one associate we saw wore a mask, and was seen wiping down the bar area in between customers. Lunch was ready in the promised amount of time, about 20 minutes. When we got the total bill, I was surprised to see it was $36 for two meals that were on the menu for $13.99. After reviewing the receipt and the menu again, the price added up. The GA Shrimp & Avocado Quesadilla had an up charge for seafood. My (almost) $14 quesadilla was $16! The Southern Fried Chicken Tacos were $13.99. We were also charged for a side order of tater tots that we did not order. We took them and enjoyed them anyway. The Southern Fried Chicken Tacos lived up to their name and tasted great. The GA Shrimp & Avocado Quesadilla, however, did not. It was very soggy and the avocado was a sad excuse for guacamole. There was hardly any cheese, and if there were 4 shrimps in the quesadilla that would be a lot. It was not worth the price, and I would not order it again. Because it was such an expensive lunch for simple meals, I would not go out of my way to return here. If I was in the area or a friend asked me to go, I would return. All the staff were very nice! We sat outside on the patio. We ordered and got our drinks. Super too hot Bloody Mary- I asked for spicy- but it was overboard HOT. They had many to go orders and kept us waiting while they tended to those customers. We are waiting for our food. We ordered shrimp tacos and fried fish tacos. They were so boring tasting. Bland bland bland. Did not enjoy. We also had tomato soup which was very very good. The bill with tip was $80.00 for lunch! Outrageously expensive for super boring food. Found Kayak Kafe on Yelp and decided to give it a go. The parking lot was packed which we believe is a good sign that the food is good but we may have to wait. To our surprise there were still a few open tables so we grabbed a seat. We started off our meal with a Cucumber Lemonade. It was light, tasty and very refreshing. I ordered the Turkey Cubano with Turkey Chili and my wife got the Lime Chicken Tacos. Everything was simply delicious. If I lived in Savannah then this place would be a must go to weekly. I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at a Kayak Kafe a taco joint that left me questioning my life choices. This place, which I'll generously refer to as a "restaurant," was a serious letdown. In general the restaurant looked worn and dirty The soup of the day for $9 was a can tasting mess. NOT a bowl but a cup. IMO not owrth $3, The tacos, nothing special at all. The chicken very tough. You can cook these at home for $4. A salad with extra chicken for $27, are you kidding me? Asked for extra limes, server bring them to our table on a paper napkin. PLEASE use a small dish! Not classy at all. To top it all off, the prices were absurd considering the quality of the food. I left the place with an empty wallet and a growling stomach, regretting every moment I spent at this restaurant. In conclusion, if you're looking for a place to ruin your appetite and drain your wallet simultaneously, this taco disaster is the perfect spot for you. Great food, great drinks, great service, clean bathrooms. It is a little too noisy inside... all of those hard surfaces. However, when the weather is clicking, they do have a large covered space and much of it is covered and has fans for the bugs. The Hot Derby is one of my favorite bourbon drinks. This is the first time I have been to this place and I was very pleased. I had the roasted lime chicken burrito and it was suuuper delicious. I wish I would have asked what salad dressing comes with the salad because that was also really delicious. They staff is super friendly and the seating area has really good vibes. It's very clean and retro. The only downside is that I think the prices are a little expensive for my budget, but the quality of food really makes up for it. The meat is also all hormone and antibiotic free so I'm sure that has to do with the prices. Anyway, I'm going to start coming here more often and explore the menu a little more. Went to Kayak for lunch with my partner and pup. Guacamole was good, the tortilla chips were freshly fried which was cool. They were super greasy but we didn't mind. Yummy! Then our entrees came. Vegan walnut tacos and cauliflower buffalo wings. Boyfriend though the tacos were fine, maybe not worth $16, but then my dish came. The cauliflower breading was extremely soggy- congealed and wiggly, as if they microwaved it and the breading absorbed all the sauce after a few hours. Our food was also warm. Server and service was wonderful though! Our server was so sweet and offered to make my dish again. I thought it would be better when it was made fresh but it was sadly not. It was hot, but equally mushy. I took another bite to give it a try, but it was too mushy and I lost my appetite for the rest of the day. Love our server though!! She offered good solutions. Had lunch at Kayak Kafe on Paulsen after making sales calls at both of the nearby hospitals. My coworker enjoyed the Chimichurri shortrib burrito special, generous and tender. I went with the Chimichurri Protein Bowl, well balanced with mesclun greens,roasted sweet potato, quinoa with a fried egg on top. Rebecca our server at the bar was super attentive and highlighted the home made sauces and dressings (cilantro lime, haberno mango, chimichurri) that we enjoyed. My 2023 goal is to cut out processed foods and additives and eat real fruits, vegetables and a limited amount of healthy meats. Eating out is almost impossible but while visiting Savannah and having no choice but to eat out I stumbled upon this and absolutely love it....so much so I went again the next week I was in town and ordered delivery for lunch the following day.
