We stayed at the Kawanhee Inn for the first time this past weekend and were genuinely impressed from the moment we arrived. The setting, right on the shores of Webb Lake, is classic Maine; peaceful, unspoiled, and incredibly quiet. It was exactly the kind of getaway we needed. The stillness of the lake, the fresh air, and the surrounding woods created the perfect atmosphere for unwinding. If you're someone with a busy life looking to truly disconnect and recharge, this is the place. Our room was cozy, clean, and full of rustic character, the kind of place that makes you feel instantly at ease. It had that old Maine lodge charm that feels authentic rather than overdone. The restaurant was another highlight. The meal we had was outstanding, thoughtfully prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. The menu was creative yet familiar, and our dishes were beautifully presented. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Apparently they have a new chef, who prepared everything wonderfully. Karla at the bar made a lasting impression. She was warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. In fact, every staff member we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about guests' experiences. It's rare to find that kind of consistency. Celina checked us in and was an absolute pro and delight. Brandy was our server in the restaurant and was an absolute delight to work with. We left feeling rested, well-fed, and grateful to have found such a special place. We're already looking forward to returning next year and soaking up more of the calm and charm that make the Kawanhee Inn such a gem. Tip: we love sleeping with a fan on. The room had an effective ceiling fan and a stand fan, but we also brought our own. Luckily, we had a three-plug extension cord that helped not only with the fan, but also with bedside charging as there was a plug only on one side of the bed. read more

Magical place, amazing food. We showed up close to closing time after going on a great hike. Found restaurant on Google. Walk thru the front door and it's a step back in time. The lobby and restaurant are immaculate. We asked if there might be a chance to get some food...table on the railing while the sunset over the lake...magic. Genuinely nice people work here. Steak was one of the best we ever tasted anywhere. Lobsta Mac cheese was heavenly. Started with cauliflower app that was unique, perfectly cooked and delicious. Rhubarb pie for desert. We were staying in Rangeley....better than any food we found up there, and worth every mile of the drive. read more

This is the best place I've stayed in recent memory. My boyfriend and I had been planning on setting up our tent in a campground near the trailhead of Tumbledown Mountain, but after a long day of driving, we decided to see if there was anywhere nearby that had a last minute room available. Lo and behold- Kawahnee! We were given a $110/night room in their main lodge, which was perfect. The owners were extremely accommodating and friendly. They seemed genuinely happy that we were there, even though we were the jerks that showed up an hour before the place closed for the night! When we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the main lodge. It's been renovated and looks upscale while retaining its rustic feel. There's a beautiful bar right when you enter, as well as a lounge area and a fine dining section. We ordered some drinks, they set up a table for us, and we ate the best meals we'd had in a long time. The food menu here is great- they offer upscale dining options as well as pub fare, sandwiches, appetizers, and salads. I got the onion rings with aioli, as well as a Caprese sandwich, which came with coleslaw, fries, and a pickle. I ended up taking half to go because the portions were so generous! Our room was clean and lovely. There is one bathroom on the floor that is shared by all guests, but it's very clean and I barely saw any other guests using it. Our bed was beyond cozy. I loved that there was no TV in the room- it felt like an authentic lodge experience. The grounds here are gorgeous- porches galore, decks and lakefront views, ample parking. The customer service is absolutely exceptional, the prices are reasonable, and the lodge itself is rustic and relaxing and gorgeous. I can't wait to come back here. read more

I chose this Inn because it was the closest to a wedding I was attending. I spent $500+ for 2 nights. It is on a lake, my view was the parking lot. The good: Rustic 100+ year old lodge with original wood interior in bar and dining room. My room had new bead board wall treatment, 2 remote control ceiling fans with lamps, a refigerator, 2 plush chairs a coffee table made from a 100+ year old slice of a tree, and a couch/hide a bed. there was a refigerator in the room. An in room coffee maker was provided. The not so good: No phone so if you needed to talk to the desk you had to walk down a flight of stairs to the desk. No microwave. No power next to the bed. My wife uses a CPAP so we had to go to the desk and have them deliver an extention cord. No air conditioning. No first floor rooms, all rooms required a trip up stairs. No saftey bars at toilet or in the shower, as well as no traction devices on shower floor. A coffee and carbs breakfast. The first morning no coffee cups and no milk for cereal . Next morning no personel at desk to check out. I was dissapointed especially for the price. Never again. read more

We were so looking forward to enjoying dinner at the Inn on our last night in Weld, only to have our expectations dashed. While the Inn's decor is charming, the rest of the experience fell far short from inattentive (or overwhelmed) wait staff to crazy delays in service to overcooked s and under seasoned food, the experience fell woefully short. Everybody has a bad night, of course, but our experience was so mediocre that I don't think it was an exception. read more

The Kawanhee Inn restaurant has great sentimental value for my family as we have been coming to Weld and this place forever. It is the breathtaking views and atmosphere that really make this place special. The food is usually good to very good although a bit expensive, which is understandable for a seasonal restaurant with beautiful ambiance. The cowboy filet mignon is excellent and the steak with blue cheese is good too. The onion ring appetizer is always a must. New this year was roasted carrots with a honey sriracha glaze wrapped in bacon A+. Hope that stays on the menu. Murph's strawberry rhubarb pie is always a favorite when available. I still got the prime rib this year even though their rendition isn't my favorite and it was good but if you don't like it slathered in their gravy maybe ask for that on the side. It's hard to even tell how well the meat is cooked when it's covered in brown gravy. I like the touch of horseradish in the gravy though. Mashed potatoes were good. Service the first night was slow and waitress was lackluster. Our second waitress later in the week had more personality. Even if you don't eat here come for a drink on the porch and watch the sunset. read more

This place has gone downhill. We ate there for dinner last night and did not have a good experience. The waitress was horrible. She rushed us the whole time and we felt pressured to eat fast. In addition to rushing us along, she failed to bring a salad we ordered, brought the food and didn't know which salmon order was which.... ugh. I ordered salmon well done and cooked through. It was not at all. It was raw in the middle. The rice was not fully cooked either. Lastly she was bringing us the bill and asking if we wanted dessert while we were eating dinner. No relaxing dinner here! A note about the restaurant too--- they were out of mussels. When you have just a few things on the menu, make sure you have what's on the menu people or tell people up front; not when they're ordering. Note about pricing--- the salmon off the menu is $28 with rice and vegetable medley. The special was salmon with a cilantro lime sauce. Same everything except a different sauce and this was $35. Ridiculous in my opinion. It was the exact same meal except a different sauce. I have nothing good to say about the meal, the chef, the waitress, the pricing, the rushing, etc.... I won't be back this season. You lost me. It's disappointing because historically this has been a great place to go. Think twice before driving out here and spending your money! read more

I must start by saying the restaurant is by far the best in Franklin county, and for the past several years the food and service has been second to none. However our last time that one or the meals was undercooked, and this time the service was not the best. When our meals arrived that was last we seen our waitress until the bill came, I explain that one of the meals were not cooked as ordered and all she could say was "we have a new person in the kitchen". Our last 4-5 times there we never had any food left or a complaint. But this time, all we talked about on our way home was how if the waitress was more attentive our experience would have been better. Management please make sure the staff is trained, I want to see the wait staff, and I don't want to here any excuses. ( she didn't even pour the wine) read more

This review is for the restaurant. I wish I could give them a better rating, but the food here for what you pay is subpar. The location is wonderful, however, and the service is always friendly. My husband and I both had beef entreés and the cuts were below average quality. A good cut of beef stands alone, you don't need to overseason it to make it taste great. I've been a handful of times, having different items on the menu, and I've never really gotten the level of quality I would expect for the price. I suspect they do well as they are always busy for their location and there aren't many restaurants nearby. read more

Kawanhee Inn is a beautiful spot in a gorgeous setting. The view from the outside porch and enclosed porch dining area is great. We were a large party and I think everyone thought the food was just alright. But, the company was wonderful and the view and atmosphere were great. I do think with the prices, the food should be a bit better. I ordered a medium rare steak and it came out well-done. I mentioned it to the server because the doneness was so far from the medium-rare I ordered, I thought I may have gotten someone else's dinner. It was mine, and they replaced it no problem. I do think with an upscale menu such as theirs and the prices to match, the the food should be a bit more on point. The kids menu mac and cheese seemed like Kraft out of the box and the 2 chicken fingers on the kids menu were a bit disappointing. $5 for the mac and cheese and $7 for 2 tiny chicken strips. We would certainly return and I would love to visit when in Maine again but it is expensive for the food delivered. However, it's a beautiful place and we enjoyed our experience! read more

I think this place runs on sentimentality. See reviews. All those who cite how wonderful the Kawanee is also reference sentimentality. Perhaps, in the height of summer, the bar is actually opened at 5 PM. Boats for use? I don't know. The view is nice but next time, I'll keep driving up to Brooklin, ME where I'd stayed last year. Views are nice there and it too is remote but not as remote as this setting. For what it offered, it was overpriced. read more

This is our 2nd year staying at the Kawanhee Inn. My family lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and we stay at the Kawanhee Inn when we travel to Maine for our kids' camp visiting day. We love to wake up to coffee and breakfast on the back porch as we watch the fog lift off the lake. After breakfast we crossed the lake by canoe for a morning workout. Tom, the Inn's very helpful and friendly manager, mapped out our daily plans. We started our outing by driving to Angel Falls for an easy hike. We then took a scenic drive to Rangeley for lunch and then headed to Little Falls for swimming. It was a great way to experience Maine's outdoors. We had cocktails each evening on the Inn's back porch. It was incredibly relaxing to sit in the Adirondack chairs watching the sun set over the lake. We were surprised how crowded the Inn restaurant was; bustling with Inn guests and locals! All of the tables were always booked so we were glad to have made reservations. The food was delicious and the portion so big that we were not able to finish our meals. We can't wait to go back again next year! read more

I am the oldest of three sisters (52 yrs). Together we have children ranging in ages from 3 years old to 22 years old. Life is busy for all and don't get together as much as we would like. This was the perfect get-a-way destination. Each family had their own cabin including the grand parents. The cabins are rustic, clean and very comfortable. The views from the cabins are spectacular! My family stayed in cabin #1 which had 2 rooms one with bunk beds and the other with a queen bed. We went on exhilarating hikes (left the two little ones with the grand parents for the hike), kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and just relaxed on the back deck that over looks the beautiful Lake Web. After the days activities we headed inside to the bar where you can choose from local craft beers on tap, a fine selection of wines or have your drink of choice all over looking the sparkling lake. Dinner is a must! With 16 of us, there were a variety of entrees ordered from Vegan to a Carnivore's delight. Everyone raved about their order! The Duck wings, Crab cakes and scallops are a must appetizer & the Lobster Gnocchi entree had huge chunks of lobster and the Lamb chops were very tender. We were not expecting to get a Five Star dinner in the middle of Maine. This is what you would expect of a fine restaurant in NYC and at a much higher price. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Kawanhee Inn but one of the most impressive occurrences was that the 17 - 22 year olds as well as the parents often left their phones in the cabin!! This restaurant/ Inn was peacefully set on Webb Lake. The view off the back deck was truly breathtaking as was the grounds and the restaurant,bar and sitting areas. The innkeepers were very courteous and kind. We paid $145.60 per night plus tip to our housekeeper. The room we rented was not very big. Looked bigger on website. There was no TV or Internet walls were paper thin so a lot of noise before we went to sleep and early in the morning continental breakfast was good well presented. Did not eat at the restaurant at night as it was quite pricey. Overall it was beautiful but we could have used a little more quiet and rest for the money we spent read more

We enjoy staying at the inn every summer. The only other review here complains that there is no wifi or tv in the rooms and the walls are thin. The Inn was built in the 1920s and maintains many of the original features, which is what makes it so charming. My kids play board games instead of video games. The lake view at sunset is breathtaking. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. read more

This is a review for the restaurant; I've been going to Kawanhee since I was a child. The vibe has definitely changed since then. Before it was a family-friendly affordable restaurant--but somewhat bad food. It was always packed. As a child I loved anything with pasta so I wasn't aware that the food was a bit cheap. The lodge has always been beautiful and the views of Lake Webb are amazing (sunsets!). I was just there over the July 4th week and the food was amazing. Within the last 8-10 years there was a drastic change in management and kitchen staff. The food is now gourmet with lots of local vegetables and homemade pies. The seafood is what draws people in (think $20+ per entree) but they also have a bar menu with burgers and fries. etc. The bar is well stocked (for a restaurant in the sticks). It is always nice to arrive early and enjoy a drink or two on the deck before sitting down for a meal. My family has always loved Kawanhee but this past visit was above and beyond our expectations. There were a few large groups including ours (6 people) thought the most people were hanging around the bar area near the fireplace. Food was delicious, the lobster thermadore was to die for, swordfish, and stuffed squash as well. The homemade Victoria (blueberry, strawberry, and raspberry) pie and the Strawberry rhubarb were delicious and you could tell that it was locally homemade. I have a fond place in my heart for the Weld area. Every summer I used to go camping with my grandparents in Weld. One of the best parts of Weld is the Kawanhee Inn. From summer to summer it can vary as it is seasonal and they have some turnover of the cooking staff. That being said the past 2 summers I've had outstanding meals here. Ask for a table out on the porch to get a great view of the lake while the sun sets. Had a great steak dinner this year with mud pie for dessert. The mud pie was great. More mousse like than ice cream. Good food and a great atmosphere. If you get up to the Weld area definitely check out the Kawanhee Inn in the summer. I'm holding back one star here due to the fact that the staff can turn over from year to year like I mentioned earlier. read more
