What a gem - positively magical place!! I came to the lakes region in search of Moose and Loons so I made sure to book a room in the Haley Pond Lodge section to be right on the water. And while I still haven't found any moose, I saw my first loons in real life right behind my room AND managed to capture their haunting song on video right from my patio!! This beautiful inn has been around for over 100 years - and the inside of the main lodge is full of antiques and is oozing with Victorian charm - so warm and inviting!! All the staff were just fantastic- caring and eager to help and so friendly - in the lodge and the tavern both. I reserved a water view king room in the Haley Pond Lodge and it was huge!! Lots of shelf space and a huge patio overlooking the pond - just magnificent! The room had a standard coffee maker, microwave and fridge. The bathroom was beautiful and everything was spotlessly clean. Water pressure and temp worked perfectly. The grounds are the best part - there are mallard ducks all over the place. I saw two deer right outside my room when I first arrived. One night I heard a moose bugling (mating call) and it was so loud haha! Shame I never saw him lol. There are tons of species of waterfowl on the pond - I saw Ring-necked Ducks and Mergansers!! And the best part was I saw LOONS!! At first, I found a mated pair right out back from my room - and they were fishing - it was so fantastic! And I saw more out across the pond bathing and preening. The mornings were super foggy which created such an eerie ambiance and the loons were crying their haunting song - oh it was just magical! Breakfast isn't included but is served daily. I didn't try it so can't speak to it but I did have dinner in the tavern one night and it was fabulous. I got the Parmesan crab dip and a tavern salad with grilled salmon - all totally delicious. I visited in late September so the fall foliage was just starting to come in - I can only imagine how gorgeous it is during peak foliage. This is a marvelous place to base yourself out of for wildlife chasing, skiing, summer fun on the lakes - for really any kind of vacation honestly. Haley Pond Lodge is detached from the main inn and set quite a ways back - but the grounds are easily walkable. There's plenty of parking and it's very centrally located in the adorable town of Rangeley. I even walked over to the huge Rangeley Lake a few times bc it's so close - it's especially wonderful at sunset. Prices for food and lodging are reasonable, even during peak seasons. All in all I had a great experience and will most definitely be back - without a doubt! read more

Our room (111) smelled horrible. The window ac units are at ground level and smelled of dog urine. The restaurant service was non existent. $47 dollar steak and served without utensils, water glasses never refilled , deserts on menu out of stock . Waited forever for table to be cleared then waited 15 minutes for the check . Disappointed,. Definitely not a 1st or 2nd class experience. Will consider other options on next visit. read more

My husband and I came to Rangeley for a quick getaway before the summer ends, and once again we stayed at the Rangeley Inn. We had a fantastic time! We love the charm and personality of the historic building. It's right downtown, so it's easy to just walk right out the door to enjoy shopping, restaurants, or just a stroll along the lakeshore (we did all of the above!). Our room was clean and comfortable, with all of the amenities we needed. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Susan at the front desk was able to check us in early as the room was ready, and was able to promptly assist with any needs or questions. The property offers lots of room to spread out, with comfortable areas around the lobby, the big front porch, and the seating areas outside on the grounds and near the water. We enjoyed a terrific steak dinner in the tavern, coffee in the lobby when we woke, and delicious eggs benedict in the restaurant in the morning. An evening drive to look for moose didn't lead to any sightings, but we made it back to town in time to grab dessert at the Pine Tree Frosty next door, which we ate back at the hotel (avoiding the crowds). My only regret is that we didn't have more time! Next time we'll book an extra day to take advantage of the kayaks the hotel loans out to guests. The weather was perfect and the lake was glassy smooth, so a little time on the water was the only thing missing. Until next time! read more

A lovely hotel. We just came back from our 3 night stay. So much charm in this lovely hotel. The tavern was great. Food and drinks were great. Room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. The hotel lobby has so much old world charm but doesn't feel old or run down. But really what set this hotel apart and put it over the top for us was the staff. Literally everyone we interacted with was friendly, kind, helpful and seemed to enjoy their job. We absolutely plan on returning. read more

If you are looking to stay in Rangeley and leaning towards a hotel/motel/Inn than this is the place. You can tell as soon as you walk through the front door this place has a lot of history in it. Tons of antiques and a moose head and other stuff in the room greet you as you are inside. The location of this place is perfect, right at the start of the hustle and bustle of Main Street Rangeley. Easy walking distance to Haley Pond (canoes and kayaks are available for free through the Inn) and plenty of places to eat and drink as well. I splurged and went with the private balcony and jacuzzi tub suite. The only negatives were the chairs outside on the balcony were quite dirty so they needed to be cleaned before use and the floor was a little warped in the room but honestly expected with the buildings age and was easy to adjust to. The staff was welcoming and friendly and the room was decently priced with awesome views and great distance from all our want to go to places. Recommend staying here! read more

Phenomenal service, attention to detail, passion for what they do to make your stay seamless and perfect makes this THE only place to stay in Rangeley for a true Maine experience. We booked a one bedroom suite right on the lake - which is an option besides the lovely rooms offered in the main hotel- and night after night had to pinch ourselves to believe how perfect our experience was being on the water. Mandy was so helpful in getting us checked in and settled for our stay. On top of this, the Inn has by far, THE best food offered in Rangeley for breakfast and dinner. The pan roasted salmon was the best I have ever had, and the thai wings are out of this world too! We loved the watermelon salad with feta, as well as a delicious summer fried green tomato salad. The wait staff are all devoted, hard working and attentive. Some of the waiters were the same ones that we met three years ago when we came to Rangeley for the first time. That's very unusual for a resort town, so it shows how well the owner Travis respects his employees and vice versa. Serban, Olivia, Lisa, and the remaining team here from Romania run a tight ship in both dining rooms, delivering attentive, caring service. This gem of a place is just that. We recently had dinner at the Pub- the food was great and the sole waitress- Erica- was phenomenal- she not only handled all the diners she also had bar duty and she did all of this with a big smile and and in a very professional manner- never once did she appear to be "rattled"hopefully she gets a big bonus read more

Our family group of 5 really enjoyed this place. I loved the quaint, cozy reception living room area. It had lamps lit all over and a Christmas tree near the fireplace and coffee station, very nice. There was a wonderful large, low round table at which we played games both afternoons. We pretty much had the whole area to ourselves. The highlight was Susan bringing us all tea pots and honey for our afternoon tea! Susan was SO friendly and helpful. We had breakfast one day and both waiters were fabulous. A few disappointments: (My mistake on this but) we skied and I somehow missed that there was a package deal which would have saved us just over $100 at Saddleback between the 5 of us. Make sure to check out the details. Also, the beds seemed smaller than Queens in the mini suite, seemed more like doubles? Also, somehow something, signs or website, led us to believe the tavern/ bar was closed so we missed out on having drinks there and dinner! This should be really obvious to customers that it's open! There was a wonderful fireplace with comfortable chairs seating all around. The only suggestions I have are since there's coffee 24/7, could there also be tea? i don't want to be an imposition on the desk manager next time Bc It might not be someone as gracious as Susan. And my son is quite accomplished and could have serenaded the staff Had the piano not been so badly out of tune. :) Overall, it was a wonderful stay! Please share how wonderful Susan made our stay. I'll split my review into two sections, one for the inn and the other for the tavern. Inn - we stayed at the Inn from a Monday through Friday. All interactions with employees were pleasant and cordial. We opted for a room with a balcony, electric fireplace and hot tub. The view from the balcony was beautiful (lake and mountains) but was heavily obstructed by another two story building the Inn has detached from the main building. One downside is that a kitchen employee would usually come out around sunset while we were on the balcony to smoke and hawk up loogies. That was pretty ambiance killing. The Inn itself seems to have undergone renovation at some point; several of the wooden floorboards don't seem to match and the floor in our room was uneven. To test this, we placed a carry on luggage with wheels on the floor and it rolled by itself. The pond behind the Inn is beautiful and you are able to borrow kayaks and equipment from the front desk to go out on the water. It is an experience I definitely recommend. Breakfast was typically generic, with an egg dish, a flavored scone, one cereal option, bagel options and drinks (juices and coffee/tea). Although the Inn has its flaws, we still enjoyed our stay there. Plus they have good wifi in an area where my cell coverage was usually spotty. Tavern - similarly to the Inn, service was always cordial and welcoming. The ambiance is very nice and locals seem to stop by for a drink as well. In terms of food, my favorite was the lobster bisque. It is very flavorful and came with chunks of lobster. I also tried the ribeye that came with gnocchi. Although the ribeye was not bad on its own merits, the standout for me was the gnocchi. In a town without any excellent food options (sorry to say), you may find yourself dining at the Tavern more than you expected. read more

Stopped in for dinner toward the end of ski season and ate in the main dining room. The Inn is one of those old fashioned, rustic buildings and the dining room reflects the Inn's heritage. We sat next to the wood burning fireplace and soaked in the atmosphere along with our cocktails. The food was pretty good--meatloaf, chicken, steak and the like. The chef did have a few adventurous moves, like sweet potato soup with a side seaweed salad and a meatloaf that featured bacon bits and a marmalade rub, but he would have been well advised just to stick to the meat and potato basics. Service was very good, but then again we were pretty much the only people in the dining room. I would come back when skiing in the area. read more

This beautiful, old hotel is a cozy retreat in the center of downtown Rangeley, Maine. In a good way, one feels like they stepped back 100 years. It is a beautiful, old building. It has a great, warm lobby where it is easy and comfortable to lounge. In addition, there is a bar and restaurant attached to the hotel, which makes it very easy and accommodating on those cold winter nights. Our room was charming and simple, and the free morning muffin was to die for! During the ski season, this is a fantastic alternative for those looking for a cheaper alternative than staying on Saddleback Mountain. The staff is extremely attentive and charming. If we're ever back in the neighborhood, we will definitely stay here again. read more

This inn was so charming. It has the perfect New England winter wonderland setting. The staff was very friendly. The owner is most accommodating and pays attention to every detail. The chef made delicious meals whether they were vegan, gluten free, or otherwise. He could and did do it all. The inn itself made you feel as though you were in the middle of an old Christmas movie. Having given my vacation home to other members of the family visiting for a wedding, we decided to stay at the inn during the weekend of August 2-3. I knew a new owner had taken over last autumn and it was obvious that he intended to make immediate upgrades. Our double room (ideal for families with a young child or two) was very tastefully decorated and the bathroom was totally updated with lots of amenities. The first morning we went downstairs to the period dining room expecting some fruit and granola with beverages for the continental breakfast. We were very surprised an pleased to also have a choice of excellent quiches and breads as well. The lobby and surrounding rooms for the inn's guests are a throwback to Rangeley's past with all the period details one could hope for. The innkeeper, Travis, brings a lot of hospitality experience, professionalism and pride to the "grand dame" of Rangeley's lodging. I stayed here for one night while I was up for a wedding. The first thing you notice about this place is how old and charming it is. The lobby is dark and inviting. We went to check in and uh-oh, they lost our reservation! Fortunately there was a room like the one we wanted still open but that little hiccup could have been disastrous. We stayed in the back building, which is not nearly as charming from the outside, but is right on the water. Our room had a fireplace and a giant whirlpool tub which was a nice perk. No a/c but luckily it was cool enough that day that just having the fan on was enough. I would probably stay here again if need be but definitely confirm your reservations after you book! read more

Typical Rangeley service if you know what I mean. Our simple order took 45 min that was for 2 bacon cheeseburgers, Burgers were ok nothing better or worse than any other location on the Rangeley strip except the bad fries that were tired, old and shouldn't have been served. It was 15 bucks each for the burgers. Ouch! I am glad the place is in use and there has been some updating but will wait for the next owner to return. read more

First time staying at the Rangeley Inn, really great option. The inn feels lime one of the grand resorts from the early 20th Century, but with modern upgrades. The individual guest rooms look like they were just remodeled last week. Then there's the food. Jim the executive chef loves gnochi. Most restaurants in the States can't make poutine. Only four base ingredients, but they always leave out one ormore of them. Jim decided to substitue pan seared gnochi for the potatoes. Everything else on the menu has similar creative twists. Mmmm If you are staying for a mumber of days and want to try something else, the "Forks In The Air Bistro" is a block away; also a foodies destination. And you are a snow rider like us, Sugarloaf is close by, over well plowedcountry roads. Great place! Oh yeah, great breakfast every morning starting at 7:AM so you can get going! I'd have given it a 5 if there was a hot tub! It's the most perfect thing after a dayon the slopes! read more

A step back in time, with modern conveniences! I had a business meeting nearby, and decided to try the Rangeley Inn, having heard it was under new ownership as of late last year (2013). This is a large old-style hotel, right in the middle of the village. You'll see its imposing structure as you come down the hill into town. Plenty of old-style New England charm, with the extra-large front porch. The lobby shows ornate woodwork, and somewhat of a sporting-camp decor, but more elegant than rustic. Renovations have been made, and continue - Lots of natural wood and fresh paint, and a nice clean bathroom. The rooms of that era are not huge, and I found mine to be quite adequate. There's an adjoining restaurant with bar, and they serve a continental breakfast in the morning which included a variety of quiches. read more

The new owner has brought a beautiful inn and lodge back to life! Great room and fantastic meal at the tavern. First the review of the lodging. We had a room in the lodge with a view of Haley Pond from a private deck. Clean, well furnished with all the amenities one would and expect to find for the price. The owner was cordial and definitely interested in making his guests comfortable. The meal was superb, the waitstaff very helpful, the tavern is rustic and yet elegant. New chef alert! Chef Brian worked last summer(and at least the one before) at the Kawanhee Inn in Weld and we loved his cooking there. However this summer he's moved over to the Rangeley Inn(and this winter as well?). Nevertheless do not miss his cooking. Phenomenal food. We make it a point to eat where he's cooking. Big portions, great ingredients and lots of variety on the menu. Homemade desserts are awesome too. read more

We stayed here to hike the Appalachian Train. It was a lovely place. We arrived late and they made sure that our room was ready with the heat on. The room was clean and had plenty of extra space to spread out. The continental breakfast was good enough to start the day well. The staff was incredibly accommodating to our needs. A beautiful old hotel, portions of which are over a century old. The business itself is much older, dating to the earliest days of railroads in the US when the well-to-do would take the train to Rangeley Lake for the summer. The lobby is cozy and both dining rooms are beautiful, particularly the one with the bar, which is the oldest portion. The food was fabulous and the rooms spacious. read more
